It’s simple. For this challenge, I urge you to go to the Dr. Get your eyes checked (haven’t done that in 2-3 years), get your teeth cleaned (I think I did that sometime last year), get a physical (are you supposed to do those on a regular basis?), visit a lady doctor (no one wants cervical cancer ladies!), or check up on that ailment that has been plaguing you for months that you keep writing off. I would probably even count a visit to an esthetician for a facial or a masseuse for a massage, since the goal this month is really about making your body function better in some way.
I will be going to the Dr. to get my hip checked out. Probably a chiropractor because visiting an MD didn’t yield any results previously. I’ve been having hip problems for over a year now, and it’s time for me to stop complaining about it. I’d like to be able to get out of bed in the mornings without doubling over in pain.
To sign up all you have to do is comment below. Remember, you have to sign up for each challenge separately by commenting on the appropriate post. I will add you to a weekly reminder email list, unless you specificy otherwise in your comment. The last week of the month I ask that you email me your photos (and maybe a description) to share with everyone else.
Hopefully this helps some of you other procastinators get things in order (like you, friend Megan).

I will totally volunteer for this one
I had my teeth cleaned last Wed & am going to the girly dr this Wed for my annual check up! Good for you for taking care of yourself! Entirely too many people are lackadaisical about their health.

I’m in for this one! What a great idea – I’m actually off to have my first physical in over 3 years this afternoon

I’m going to sign up – but I don’t know for what yet. There are many health related issues in my life currently, but most of them will probably take more than a month to get over. Maybe I will finally make my dentist’s appointment – I haven’t gone since I was taken off my parent’s plan last summer. Whoops!

Wow Jenna, I feel like this is a motivational post just for me! What a gem you are…
I have all sorts of phone numbers to call (finding new doctors stinks, especially if you have bizarre health concerns like I do) so there’s a start.
Have you read about my snowshoeing excursion yet? It was the kick off to the Year of Moving My Body More.

I’m in! I definitely need to have my eyes checked and visit my regular doctor.
Now all I have to do is find those phone numbers….

I neeeeeeeeed to go to the eh-em, lady doctor. Really really need to go. I keep meaning to make an appt. I haven’t been since like November of 2006! Which, actually I heard it’s okay to go once ever 2 years, but that still means I’m a couple months overdue. So, I’ll let you kick my bootie into gear by asking that you “gently nudge” me on this one
. Due to the incredible back up that is often my doctor(s) office(s), I can’t promise I’ll get in there in 01/09, but I can make it a goal to get an appt on the calendar. Thanks for the nudge

I’m in! I’ve been meaning to get my eyes checked… for about the last four years!

LOVE your “challenge” idea, Jenna — what a great innovation! Unfortunately, this one is actually far too easy for me with all the pregnancy complications. Last month’s total? Something like 3 doctor’s office visits, 4 sonograms, 3 short hospital visits, and 1 overnight. This month, I’m at least hoping to skip the hospital. (Fingers crossed!)

This goal- was something I enacted when I got engaged! I am now on my fiance’s health plan *Kaiser allows it* prior to being married. When I switched medical plans, I sat down with my new Primary care physician (which it took me three visits to find someone I liked) and asked them questions i thought were important for me like ‘how often should i see the eye doctor? am i on schedule with my adult immunizations?”… But most importantly here are my most important questions and my physicians reply!
*Do I need to have a health physical every yr? My physician said; “no. not unless you have a predisposing medical issue that needs to be closely followed. After age thirty, yes every yr a health physical is indicated/recommended.”
*Do I need to have a pap smear every yr? “If you are in a monogamous relationship, and do not have any prior gynecological health history (as well as family history), and had three consecutive negative pap screenings you can have a pap smear every three yrs.” Having said that, women get evaluated more frequently because of child bearing, child raising etc…
Then I mentioned to my physician that my fiance and I were planning on having a baby soon after our wedding. She then added this “a couple of months before you try to become pregnant, you should consider taking pre-natal vitamins…”
As women, it is pretty much proven we go to the doctor more than men.
I think what should be added to this ‘health challenge’ is trying to encourage our men to also seek regular health check ups too! =o)

I’m doing this one too – The annual lady doctor visit is way overdue. I’ll call right now, actually.

You ARE wonderful. You should feel so good that you’re motivating so many people to do good things. I finally got health insurance a couple months ago (wanted to be taken care of in case I broke my arm snowboarding), so this month I’ll get dental ins and schedule an appointment
. The dentist I like is in California and I’ll be in Utah and Texas in January, so I won’t be able to officially complete this one until February, but I’ll get it on the calendar!

try going to a d.o. instead of an m.d., jenna. many of them practice osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), which is kind of like chiropracty (i just made that up) but a different . . . and better, in my opinion.

I could join but it would be a cheat. I’ve been to the Dr, Chiropractor, Eye Dr and Gynecologist in the past 6 month or so…
But it’s a good things to do though and a great challenge idea.
Remembering to take my supplements is more of the challenge to me this month

Jenna, this is Lisa from the ward (we met at the Company X Christmas party), just found your blog this week. I’d never seen a chiropractor until a couple of weeks ago, and have had three appointments since and my pain (left SI joint/hip pain) is almost entirely gone! Let me know if you need a recommendation if you don’t already have someone in mind, and I hope you don’t mind me following your blog!

I’m going to commit to this challenge, because it will actually help motivate me. I haven’t been to a dentist in almost five years. And I’ve had dental insurance for at least a year. I feel like I don’t have time with my little boy, school, and attempting to get my photography portfolio going.

Ooooh, I’m signing up for this one! I’ve been needing to get to a acupuncturist to hopefully alleviate my migraine problem. I’ve been trying everything else. I work for a chiropractor and get regular adjustments and have been seeing our Massage Practitioner every week (excluding the weeks we were gone). I’m at my wits end and I’m hoping that this will help. If not, it’s back to the regular doctor for more questions!
