Kristin-I knew this would be an issue, but I didn’t see any way around it. It’s hard to write these posts and give references sometimes because I feel like I need to write a post to explain the post because the church can be really circular.

The short answer is, that Joseph Smith, the first prophet in the latter days, translated many portions of the bible which had been changed or distorted with the passing of time. That is where Moses came from. Abraham came from a very old record written on papyrus that came into the posession of the church in 1835. Both books are regarded as scripture in the LDS canon.

Hey Jenna,
Quick question. When you reference the book of Moses and Abraham…where is that coming from? I’m trying to follow along with the references but I don’t see either of these books in the Book of Mormon or the Bible. Do you have another religious text?

Oh also…do you know of any updated translation of the Book of Mormon. All the ones I have found are rather antiquated and I find them harder to understand. Thanks muchly!

That would be really cool! I’m familiar with a few things, but it’s really basic (the no alcohol or caffeine thing, FHE), but that’s about it. No pressure, you put a friendly face to LDS so graciously!

I never knew this! I really appreciate your insight into LDS matters. I love learning about other religions (I hope to get my master’s in religious studies someday), and hearing from someone living the LDS lifestyle and explaining it in a way that others can understand is enormously helpful. While the official LDS website is a good resource, hearing from you is so interesting. You are so relatable, and being from Missouri where there is not a particularly large LDS population, you are the only LDS member that I “know!” You put a face on LDS, for me at least, so thank you for that!
