I’ve received several questions about what type of camera to buy, enough that I thought it would make sense to just write a post about several different camera options from Canon that might work for you. I started with the cheapest one you can get (and still get good quality) and ended with the camera perfect for those who have money to burn. And I tell you the lens I’ve been drooling over (not that any of you really care, but if you would like to contribute to the “Help Jenna Get Her Next Dream Lens” fund I thought it would help you know how much money you need to raise).
Visit Elizabeth Anne Designs Living to read my post with my favorite Canon camera options, including a list of pros and cons and accompanying current competitive prices (a few of which will make your eyes bug out, sorry).

YAY! You bought a 5D MII! For shooting in low-light churches alone, we’ve come to absolutely rely on this body. Our dream pairing is the 5D with a 50MM 1.2 lens. Pricey, yes… worth it? Absolutely!

That was an easy read! I think it’ll be very helpful to the newbies.
(BTW: there’s a contest on my blog you might be interested in. You can’t drink coffee, I know… but there’s other stuff at Starbucks that might trip your holiday trigger. Regift, if nothing else!

*sigh* I’m a Nikon gal myself, but there’s very little difference in price between Nikon and Canon. Camera bodies and good lenses- they’re ALL expensive! My dream photography Christmas list consists of the Nikon D3 body, 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, and, for my fascination with prime lenses, a 14mm f/2.8. Pure sweetness!
As it is, I’ll be lucky if I get the Carhartt hoodie I asked for, lol.

I’m shooting with the Rebel XTi and am chomping at the bit for that 5D Mark ii – so jealous! Although I’m toying with the idea of the 7D for the reason you mentioned – focusing mechanism and lower price tag. I feel like I struggle with focus/sharpness and rely on the high pass filter in Photoshop to make up for it. I’d rather just have them sharp SOOC. And I’m with you on the 85mm! I rent it every once in awhile just to dream, if only for a few days, that we can be together…
