I’ve got one more antique store find for you! Remember when I wrote about the things I’ve purchased for baby so far? And how I admitted to splurging on a little antique dress when I don’t even know the baby’s gender? Well technically I went to the store to buy a dress specifically for this giveaway, as I had spotted them hanging on a clothesline the last time I was there, but when I saw they were 50% off I figured I’d get one for me and one for one of you. This is definitely the riskiest item I’ve giving away this week, as I’m not sure how many people will be interested. First, you have to either be having a baby girl or know someone who is, and you have to be okay with “old stained clothing”. I prefer the term vintage to old, and I think the fact that it’s a bit weathered to add to it’s charm, but I realize that not all will feel this way. Pair this little dress with a wide brimmed bonnet and ruffly bloomers though and I think you’ll have the cutest baby anyone has ever seen! (Something like this.)

You can’t see it very well here, but it’s a bit stained around the collar and down the front. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

So if you’re having a baby girl, plan to have one in the future, or know someone who is (or you are like my mom and like to stock up on potential baby gift items so you don’t have to run to the store every time you get an invite), go ahead and answer the question below in the comments:
I’ve officially given up on finding a name with meaning, as TH and I can’t seem to agree on anything! At this point we’d be happy to just find with something we like. We have two boys names picked out (yay!) but we can’t find anything we both love for a girl. Leave me three name suggestions in the comments, as long as they aren’t Polish (we’re using Polish family names and TH’s last name for the middle and last, no need to torture the child with three difficult names to spell out the rest of their life), wouldn’t be considered “grandma” names (TH rejects all of those), and aren’t crazy popular right now (so Emma, Isabella, Emily, Madison, Ava, Olivia, Sophia, Abigail, Elizabeth, Chloe, etc are out). Maybe you’ll be the one we can credit for naming our child!
Comments close at 11:59 pm on 2/24/2010, and the winner will be announced on Saturday. Entries that don’t fully answer the question will be deleted because I like when people follow directions.
P.S.-Feel free to leave name suggestions even if you don’t want to enter, just let me know that you aren’t interested in winning so I can keep that in mind when I do the drawing.

OK, I love names, and yes it’s hard when you rule out the top ten, but here goes:
Lillian – Lily is an adorable nickname for both a baby and an adult
Gabriela – Gorgeous name, with a myriad of cute nicknames
Brianna
February 24th, 2010 on 12:39 pm
- Sarah (totally biased here but it’s classic)
- Claire
- Addison
Disclaimer: I have no idea where these are in terms of popularity b/c I don’t know people with kids, but I like them.
February 24th, 2010 on 12:43 pm
Lily is a favorite of mine
along with Olivia and Caden
February 24th, 2010 on 12:46 pm
Aubrey
Samantha (I love that it can be shortened to Sam)
Stella (potentially grandma, but maybe not)
Alayna
I know you said TH likes Annie but you don’t. Do you like Anna? It’s similar, and also similar to Jenna, which is kind of cool.
February 24th, 2010 on 12:57 pm
Rebecca
Catherine
Charlotte
I like classic names and I love the baby dress!
February 24th, 2010 on 1:07 pm
My sister is having a baby girl, and I would LOVE to be able to give her this dress!! Not sure how these rank on the “trendy” or “grandma” scales, but some girls names that I like are…
Adelle
Nora
Ellie
Evelyn
Lucy
Katheryn/Kate
Jane
Claire
Good luck!
February 24th, 2010 on 1:15 pm
I think this dress is so sweet!
My name hasn’t been popular since 1910 – Kathleen though I don’t recommend it because it drove me nuts as a child. I do like Jane, Aubrey, and Raegan (Reagan, Regan – however you want to spell it).
February 24th, 2010 on 1:27 pm
We find out what we are having next week and I really hope it is a girl! If not my friend is having a girl and I could gift it to her! So excited! We are in the same boat with not wanting “trendy” girl names so here are a few we have thought of:
Claire
Charlotte- call her Lotty for short
Liesel- yes like in Sound of Music! **My favorite one, but husband doesn’t like it that much.
February 24th, 2010 on 1:28 pm

February 24th, 2010 on 1:31 pm
Not entering but:
Merrill
Marion
Annabelle
Amelia
Zoe
February 24th, 2010 on 1:32 pm
I love names! Unofortunately one of my favorite baby names is Emma which is a family name. I’m hoping it will go out of style or I might use it as a double name (do you like double names?)
I tend to be pro-classics:
Charlotte
Mine is Margaret, which I think is cute (and a good nickname in Maggie)
Lydia
Caroline
Rachel (biblical)
Julia
Camille
Harper (definitely trendier- although I think slightly boyish girl names are cute!)
I love the dress– I’m not TTC yet but I’m already dying to be (and starting stockpiling cute things…shh don’t tell my husband!)
February 24th, 2010 on 1:35 pm
No need to enter me either, but I love Victoria, Marin, Audrey and Lily.
February 24th, 2010 on 1:36 pm
Annelies (you could always vary the spelling: Annalise, Annelyse, etc) is actually Anne Frank’s given name. I think it’s pretty and it has a nice meaning behind it.
Other ideas:
-Gemma (probably not a contender since it’s so close to Jenna)
-Sarita
-Lila

I love antique dresses and hopefully one day I have a girl. And hoping that either this time or the next one you get the girl that you could imagine for your dress.
And in regards to names, I understand the issue. I have already told my husband that we will use only family names for our children, the problem is that my family is focused on knowing our ancestry and his is not. So now I am scrounging to find names from his side so that when the time comes we have plenty of options from both sides.
Going through my family tree and pulling my favorite names…
Some names:
Eliza
Delia or Adelia
Julia
Beverly
Sarah (just kinda partial you hear)
Frances
Lydia
Lucy (Lucile)
Kathleen (My favorite Great Aunt)
Elizabeth
February 24th, 2010 on 1:52 pm
Sadly, I know no girl babies, so you don’t need to enter me. I like Camille, Marin (although I think possibly from a previous post TH is anti-girl names that end with N?), Eliana, Suzanne, and Aurelia.
February 24th, 2010 on 1:53 pm
Love the dress! I have a friend who just had a baby girl and I could so see her love this!
My name suggestions are:
Charlotte
Eloise
and Bridget!
February 24th, 2010 on 1:55 pm
Fun! I don’t need the dress either, but love baby names.
Adele
Caroline/Carolina (seconding!)
Thea
Georgia
Clara
Willa
Gemma (seconding!)
Mara (seconding!)
Miranda
Talla
(Hmmm… these all end in “a.” Interesting.)
February 24th, 2010 on 2:19 pm
Okay so I’m giving up one of my favorites:
Eloise… darling, right? Call her Elli, Loey (said low-ee haven’t quite figured out spelling for nicknames yet), or Louise.
PS I love the dress and who it would be perfect for! Hope I win
February 24th, 2010 on 2:22 pm
Ada and Julia are two of my favorites. I also love Elaine.
February 24th, 2010 on 2:43 pm
Well I would love to have the dress and be able to present my little niece to be born…
What do you think about
Giulia
Giulianna
Layla
Giovanna
Well those are my suggestions, good luck with the decision!
February 24th, 2010 on 3:25 pm
So I was thinking about this earlier, because my sister and I were intentionally given names that translate well to other languages. I’m Eleanor, and she is Margaret, and I don’t think anyone I know has had a problem with them.
It is old fashioned for a Margaret to go by Margaret, but it is still common enough – and a lot of American Margarets I know go by Meg or Molly, which are both cute names. I firmly believe that Eleanor is a timeless classic that will never go out of style.
And I second somebody else’s suggestion of Claire. It’s simple and easy to spell, which will be important with your last name, translates well, and is pretty.
February 24th, 2010 on 3:26 pm
What a sweet little dress! My favorite names that I toss around for girls (since I’m far from that stage of life just now) are Margaret (Maggie for short), Brittlyn (my friends name which I think is unique but not in an odd way), Olivia or Reagan. I think some of my favorite names belong to the girls I used to teach in sunbeams and are the type of names I can’t tell if I like the name or like it because of the girl… names like Tatum, Quincey, Jacklyn, Shae, Camden and Sutton
February 24th, 2010 on 3:45 pm
I LOVE boyish girl names!! – it brings back memories of the show Sisters…
Reagan (as in the president)
Carter
Camdon (you could call her Cami)
Charlotte (you could call her Charlie
Ryan (works especially well with a feminine middle name)
McKenna
Matilda (you could call her Mattie)
February 24th, 2010 on 4:03 pm
Constance
Charlotte
Agatha
February 24th, 2010 on 4:16 pm
Didn’t you say something about how Polish boy names usually end in “a,” so all girl names that did were nixed by That Husband?
My suggestions:
Analiese
Mirielle
Evangeline (get the Evie nickname without the super common name)
February 24th, 2010 on 4:26 pm
No babies yet but we’re starting to try, I would definitely use the dress if we get blessed with a little girl!
Helen
Isla
Jane
February 24th, 2010 on 4:41 pm
For girls names, I have always been fond of…
Amelia (my great grandmother and great-great grandmothers name)
Lucinda (Lucy for short)
Abagail
I think this little dress would look so cute on my new niece Molly.
February 24th, 2010 on 4:44 pm
Girl names!
Georgia
Ariel
Susanne (or, Anna)
February 24th, 2010 on 5:07 pm
I don’t know how much longer my girl would fit into that dress, but I will share some names:
Bryonie (alternate spelling Bryony)
Varda (means “rose” in Hebrew, also one of the Valar in the Silmarillion, for the Tolkien-inclined…)
Talitha (my girl’s name, means “little girl” in Aramaic)
Sophia (wisdom)
Astrid (God’s strength)
February 24th, 2010 on 5:13 pm
I LOVE the name Charlotte, although we’d never use it because Bart hates it (of course he does) and I need names that are less common than that.
I also really like Bronte and Blythe (I’ll count those as one because they’re probably too unusual for you).
And Emily. I love that name.
February 24th, 2010 on 5:55 pm
I like Arianna, Chiara (Keyara), Magnolia (Maggie) or Melina! No baby for me, so feel free to share the prize with someone else.
February 24th, 2010 on 5:56 pm
Maureen
Livvy
Josephine
February 24th, 2010 on 5:59 pm
I really like Laurel and Joycelyn. Also I just heard a name on the Olympics of a U.S. ice dancer, Tanith. But, I could be biased considering my own.
February 24th, 2010 on 6:05 pm
Oh, love this! I’m not nearly ready for kids yet but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming up names!
1. Elise
2. Brenna
3. Naomi
4. Keri
5. Blair
6. Jillian
7. Frances
8. Clara
9. Elizabeth
10. Alexandra/Alexis
I went over, sorry, but I got on a roll.
February 24th, 2010 on 7:03 pm
Well, I love the name Virginia, since that’s my name. I also always thought Suzanne was pretty. And Shena is a name I’d never heard before, but which I think is lovely.
Good luck!
Now that my husband and I have started trying to get pregnant (or will as soon as he gets home from his business trip!), I would so love to win this dress.
February 24th, 2010 on 8:41 pm
We hope to have a baby girl (or boy!) soon, we’ll see what plans are in store for us…if not, my good friend has the most adorable baby girl who is befitting of such a pretty dress.
In honor of my friend’s daughter, my first suggestion is
Karah (sounds like Sarah); I also like Blythe and Bridget (though I prefer Brigid or Brigitte).
February 24th, 2010 on 9:21 pm
