Apparently the post below stopped working (what is up with that?!?!?). Don’t worry if you’ve already commented, they are all still there and I can access them and see your links. I’ll work on trying to figure out how to solve the problem, but in the meantime I thought it would be best to put up a second post where people can introduce themselves if they are so inclined. To quote from my last post:
Comment below and tell me a little bit more about yourself (as Mandy urged her readers to do). There are so many of you that comment on an almost daily basis, but I don’t know much more than your screen name! I would love to hear things like:
- Age
- Location
- Hometown
- Profession
- Marital status
- Children?
- Likes or dislikes
- How you found That Wife
- One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future (this is the point where I always say that I raised pigs in my front yard growing up, or that I can blow milk out of my eye, or that my husband grew up in Poland)
- Anything else you think I should know
A la CJane, if you comment below with some or all of that information, and leave your own blog address, I’ll stop by and comment on one of your posts. And my comment will be a real one, not just “Hey, you are awesome!” because I believe the only good kind of comment is a genuine one. Maybe I’ll like what I find and I’ll subscribe and say hi every once in awhile from here on out (but no guarantees on that one, I only have 24 hours in each day, and I swear T1 wants to take charge of like 20 of them). I’m hoping that this post will turn into a place where I can refer back to when I read through a particularly insightful comment and realize I want to know more about the person who left it. Did you know that sometimes I talk about you guys with TH? One of you will say something and your name and comment will be the topic of our dinner conversation that night. Now I’ll be able to be really specific when I say things like “She’s the one who said this” or “She’s the one who did that”. Super cool.
Anyone good with coding and such have any idea why that post could have stopped loading? I suspect it has something to do with the comment count but my OBGYN post only has 3 comments less than that one and it is working fine…

* Profession – analytical chemist and microbiologist for an environmental water quality laboratory
* Marital status – married almost 2 years.
* Children? – Give me two more years to fight off this baby fever and pay off our debt and we’ll have one of our own.
* Likes or dislikes – I like the art and design world and if I hadn’t been a scientist, I would have loved to go to art school. I dislike airplane travel because I always throw up. As a kid it’s ok, as an adult it’s embarrassing.
* How you found That Wife – through weddingbee, your October wedding was a week before mine!
* One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future – I love tattoos. People don’t assume I am the type when we first meet if I’m dressed more conservatively, but I have 3 larger tattoos (right sholder/back, left hip/side, and right calf) that have been completed in about 16 hours of total work.
* Anything else you think I should know – I love reading about your life because we are almost the same age and were married at the same time but so much about our lives is so different! I’m an atheist so reading more about the real lives of people who follow different faiths helps me keep from being judgmental or making assumptions about what I don’t know. Things we have in common are our beliefs about money/debt and natural childbirth. I’m loving all your posts about parenting so far, we seem to have a lot in common there too.

Children?- one lil man, born August 2009
Likes or dislikes-I love working out, reading, hanging with my husband, and dreaming big dreams about our life together
How you found That Wife- gosh, now I don’t remember! It was probably a “this site links to that site…links to this site…”, and here I am.
One quirky thing about yourself- I have odd tastes, like I only like PLAIN yogurt, I love sour candy, and I actually *like* eating aspirin and letting it dissolve on my tongue. I KNOW.
Anything else you think I should know- I grew up wanting to be a single entrepreneur and live in a brownstone in New York. I didn’t live in NY, but I traveled a LOT and lived in 5 major cities before I did get married at 28. I never wanted to get married until I met my hubs, and then… there was no stopping it! Once married, I didn’t really want to have kids-our son was an “oops”, but now that we have him I can’t imagine a better, more fulfilling life. I quit my (very successful) job 3 days before he was born, and I have NEVER looked back! I’m ridiculously happy.

So glad you are back – but even more glad that your bloggy break was a good one.
I will remind you that I’m one of the people who read you back when you were That Girl, when I was newly into wedding-planning blogs. Don’t remember how I found you, but I’ve read you through That Bride and now That Wife. I am in it for the long haul.
I’m 29, living in the midwest, but grew up in a town of 10,000 people in the Great Plains. Lots of people don’t think that’s small, but my town was the biggest one for hundreds of miles.
My husband is a medical resident; I’m a freelance writer. We have no kids and no pets at this point. I like poetry, Chopin, Bravo reality shows, contemporary fiction, spicy food, snow, grammar, and guacamole. I dislike text messaging, tomatoes, rudeness, and germs.
Something that you (and TH, perhaps?) might find interesting about me is that I have been to Poland twice – once to Warsaw and twice to Krakow. Beautiful cities, full of history, and filled with some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. My husband spent a month in Krakow teaching at the medical school. He loves languages and we both truly enjoyed our time in Poland, so now we say the Polish version of “bon apetit” before dinner each night. (I don’t know how to spell it, but it sounds like “smahch naygo.”)
It’s so fun to read through everyone’s comments. Welcome back to the blogging world!

Hometown: Buffalo, NY
Profession: Mental Health Care
Marital status: SINGLE but in a long-term committed relationship
Children: none at this time
Likes or dislikes: like chipotle burritos and pedicures, dislike (like you) unsolicited advice. Had a doozy this weekend from my sister that strengthened my resolve to keep my mouth shut when it’s not my place (something I strive to do but is REALLY HARD sometimes)
How you found That Wife: I think from Weddingbee. I found Weddingbee a year or so ago and Mrs. Avocado was one of the bloggers I read in entirety in about a day
One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future: I can’t get enough of hair bands (Guns N Roses, Poison, Def Leppard, etc.)
Anything else you think I should know: You chronicling your pregnancy and birth experience with a midwife/at home has seriously made me consider that as an option when the time comes for me. The statement you made to the tune of “the more interventions you have, the more interventions you have to recover from” really hit a chord with me. I still don’t know what I will do and I am years away from having children but now I consider this more of an option. Oh and it made me realize you are one of the bravest people I have encountered – putting all of that out there is kind of amazing!

Hometown: A handful of small Texas towns
Profession: Environmental scientist; photographer
Marital status: Blissfully married to my best friend
Children: Two basset hounds (Turco and Bacon). Human child number one (dubbed “Pod”) is cooking – due in August (SO stoked!)
Likes or dislikes: I love anything with a fat vintage owl on it, bread products, a clean kitchen, and chocolate chip cookies. June bugs and crickets will send me into a crazy pre-teen shrieking girl fit even though I can deal with spiders, reptiles, and amphibians just fine.
How I found That Wife: Found you while admiring your wonderful photography work. Stumbled on your personal blog and was intrigued to find another fellow LDS photog in the Dallas/Fort Worth area who had so much in common with me (becoming first time mommies within months of each other, cloth diapering, overall view points, etc.). I love your writing and your blog and am inspired by your posts to educate others on our faith. I look forward to your posts and I hope that one day I can expand my writing to include more interesting topics (as well as do better about taking photos of daily going-ons).
Quirky stuffs: I was born with two sets of adult teeth, so I was losing my adult chompers in high school (can you say “hottie”?). Heh. Jellyfish and octopi are two of my favorite animals.
Anything else you think I should know: Just wanted to reiterate my appreciation for your blog and your ability to express your thoughts. One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future: My worst job ever was as a “Santa Elf” at the mall in high school. Location – Currently Gainesville, FL and we loathe it with a passion. Looking to move to Seattle potentially soon.
Hometown – Moved all over the country growing up, but I count my home as San Francisco, where I once lived and it really shaped me into the person I am today.
Profession – Professional Student and Domestic Goddess (somewhat relating to the poor Florida job market). Going to school to be a Social Worker and Counselor.
Marital status – Happily married (2 years as of tomorrow)!!
Children – Hopefully within the next five years.
Likes – Silliness, music, food (!!), originality, photography, reading, politics, philosophy, hiking, simple living, and volunteering.
Dislikes – Flakiness in people (only in biscuits – lol), gossip, text messaging, and when young women treat themselves with disrespect by not representing themselves as ladies.
Quirkiness: I love every vegetable, but if it’s a crunchy vegetable, it HAS to be cooked first. Also, I’m a Humanist. I’ve noticed it’s pretty hard to find other Humanists, especially in my region.
I love reading your blog because you are fresh, insightful, have real heart, don’t sugarcoat, and are different. You are completely different from me, and that’s okay. I relate in your ability to be forthright. That and I’ve always been genuinely interested in the intimate stories of others, from an individual place and a sociological one; it’s very fascinating to me.

• Hometown: Albany, NY (The capital, contrary to popular belief, New York is a state, not just the city!)
• Profession: Student / Internet Reader / World Traveler / Aspiring Photographer / Professional Real Life Putter Offer
• Marital status: Single in the married sense, not in the available sense
• Children: I often feel that I am still a child
• Likes or dislikes: Likes learning obscure facts, reading Lonely Planet guides to countries I have no immediate plans to visit, a good night out, a good night in. Dislikes vegetables.
• How I found That Wife: Um. Well this might be awkward but I had started a love affair with the show Big Love, which I think is awesome television and actually depicts the Barb, a lapsed LDSer, very respectfully, and started poking around on the interwebs to learn more about mormonism. So I came for the funny underwear rumors and stayed for the honest writing, great photos and strong personality.
• One quirky thing about yourself: Your husband is from Poland, my longterm boyfriend is from Scotland. I can relate to your posts on cultural differences and I loved your Halloween t-shirts and may recreate them myself some day.
• Anything else you think I should know: I blog at http://thetravelingturtle.wordpress.com/ and I’d love it if you would stop by! Its a little blog with big aspirations but I’m doing tons of photography posts lately so maybe you’ll like some of those. Its primarily going to be my travel/photography blog and I started it last year when I went traipsing around South East Asia by myself and met my boyfriend there.
Jenna, my life could not be more different than yours. I’m a diet coke guzzling atheist living the Sex and the City life in Brooklyn and the hippie life on the road, and at only a few years older than I you have a whole list of things I don’t want (a husband, baby, permanent address, minus the nice lenses, wouldn’t mind those!) but I can’t stop reading your blog! Maybe I like peeking into a world so different from my own. Maybe I like another strong minded person to voice opinions opposite my own. Maybe I just like pretty pictures. Either way, keep doing what you’re doing. As for the negative comments, remember, its better than zero! I’d kill for a readership like yours even if it meant some people told me they hoped my air turned off while I was scuba diving. Chin up!

Anyway to get the page to work again?

* Likes or dislikes – I like hanging out with my husband and my two cats, reading, crafting, watching TV, and shopping at Goodwill. I dislike headaches, olives, people who want to have political discussions all the time and people who think they know it all.
* How you found That Wife – I honestly don’t remember, but I can tell you that it was one of the first blogs I started reading every day without fail!
* One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future – We just moved into our first house and there’s a lake behind it that has muskrats in it! I watch them all the time!
* Anything else you think I should know – I love reading blogs, but I’m horrible at blogging on a regular basis. I keep trying to get better, but so far I haven’t succeeded.

I”m a 21 year old girl from New England that just LOVES LOVES babies! I can never get enough of those very cute, very small people!(Is it any wonder that I’ve been a professional babysitter for 7ish years now and have no desire to stop?!) Our backgrounds are really different (since 1. I was raised by atheists in the super-liberal Bay Area–my best friend as a kid had two lesbian mothers, and I didn’t meet anyone who believed in Hell until I was 14 and 2. I’ve never lived anywhere in the US except the Bay Area and Los Angeles, and never really known anyone well who wasn’t a college-educated liberal). Hi Jenna!
My name is melissa and I’m 29 years old. I live in Orlando, Florida but my homestate of California will always have a special place in my heart. I am an attorney by day and cooking/baking/blogging/reading/tv watching fool by night. I’m married but no babies yet. Hopefully soon! In addition to the hobbies listed above, I like football, diet coke, sleeping in and french fries with ranch dressing. I don’t like working out, my husband’s sci fi shows and meatloaf. I found your blog after reading about your wedding on Weddingbee. A quirky thing about myself – for one whole semester in college I had to set an alarm to wake up in time for my 4:00pm class. Yep, I set the alarm for 2pm. Least productive 4 months of my life.
I really enjoy reading your blog. Our lives, beliefs, and perspectives are so different, but I think that is what makes your blog so wonderful to me. I truly appreciate a differing point of view. And I admire your candor.

Hi!! I’m a little late to the game, and I know you are swarmed with T1 & life, so no need to get back to me any time soon! But if you want to visit my blog, I’m over at www(dot)tropicalhappiness(dot)com
I’m 29 and live in South Florida. I don’t really have a hometown… I was born in IL, but moved around my entire life. I currently work in advertising. I’ve been married just over one year and no kids yet. Hopefully soon, but I’m still waiting for the hubby to be ready.
I found That Wife from… where else… Wedding Bee!
One quirky thing about me… well, not really quirky, but I grew up moving around the world. I’ve lost count of how many houses I’ve lived in… over 20… but I’ve lived in 7 states and 4 countries. I moved to Chile when I was 8, and there was quite a large population of Mormons in Chile. It was my first introduction to the religion, and in quite the child-like fashion, it was a great one. It seemed very normal to me… although there were some small differences with the Mormons (they had large families & talked a lot about their Missions), I had a ton of Mormon friends. It was pretty cool.
Funny how places have introduced me to different religions. Years later, in South Florida, there are very few Mormons, but a lot of Jews. I find it so interesting to learn about other religions.
Let’s see… what else… I love pictures. And the beach. Just being outside in general really rejuvenates my soul. I’m not a fan of a lot of foods… I’m probably the pickiest eater you’d ever meet.
Anyway, love your blog. I love how you are willing to touch upon topics that seem taboo and you give your honest opinion. I’m sure it’s hard, but we love you for it!!!!!!!!

Oh, and one more thing. I know I am TOTALLY LATE to the game on this one, but when you mentioned that you got a lot of negative comments about shaving your son’s head, I couldn’t believe it. One, people should just butt out. But two, I thought I’d share the fact that in Chile, it is completely common to shave your child’s head after they are born. The Chileans believe that it makes your child’s hair thicker, and they covet the thick black hair. So it is super common to see a little baby with shaved, spiky hair! Even little girls! Sometimes they shave it twice!!!!!

Not to add to your list just as your getting closer to the bottom, but here I am!
I like cooking, but baking more so, photography – taking and admiring other’s work, hydrangeas are my favorite flower, Jesus, spending time with friends and family, wine, having the opportunity to be creative/crafty, and desserts – all of them. I don’t like what desserts do to my belly, dieting – why can’t it just melt off?, bugs, humidity – good thing I live in a low humidity area.

How you found That Wife: Ummmm…I don’t remember… It’s been awhile though.
One quirky thing about myself…: I love traveling. Not quirky enough? I have family in Ellensburg, WA, which I believe isn’t too far from where you grew up. I live in a town where the cows out number the people. I shoot with a Nikon – D700 to be exact, it’s new to me and I love it! Shooting with a Nikon just might be enough to put me in the quirky list as a photographer.

One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future: Errr, I have four ferrets. I’m desperately trying to train them to do tricks, but so far they’re all proving to be defective.

whew i’m late! glad to see you back on here!
* Age: 24 but about to turn…24 again on July 22
* Location: Massachusetts!
* Hometown: A small town in West Michigan – people really are nicer in the Midwest (especially the drivers).
* Profession: I work in entry leveling publishing – I actually really like my job! Surprising bc it is at the bottom of the food chain lol.
* Marital status: Married for almost 2 years to a super cool yet nerdy high school chem teacher.
* Children? Not yet! Gimme 2 or 3 years…although I’m starting to feel time is running out!
* Likes or dislikes: I love gentle comedy, measured doses of fun, and a great shopping deal. Right now specifically I am seriously liking watches, girly aprons that I keep forgetting to wear that my mom brought me from Korea, and trying new recipes. And dogs! I don’t like eating cucumbers (they make me gag), sudden change of plans, and the fact that all the food I feel like eating is deemed “bad” for me hehe.
* How you found That Wife: Weddingbee! Over two years ago I think, although it may or may not have taken me a year to wean off the site after my wedding.
* One quirky thing about yourself: We have a Pomeranian Dachshund mix named Argon (a periodic table element name that I picked, but everyone thinks the hubs picked). I am slightly obsessed with my birthday and love it to death. My voice sounds like a little girl’s?
* Anything else you think I should know: Nothing, I just heart your blog!

* Age – 29
* Location – Sunny San Diego
* Hometown – San Diego native – a very rare thing
* Profession – Assistant Director of Facilities and Property Management for a really large non-profit
* Marital status – Married to my high school sweetheart, together for almost 14 years and married almost 3.
* Children? Sometime in the future. Just started NFP classes. I still have a lot of weight to lose before I make some babies.
* Likes or dislikes – Love my family, bacon, and cooking. I dislike Led Zeppelin, having to always lose weight, and working out
* How you found That Wife – Weddingbee – Even though I don’t always agree with your views I can still respect them and they are really interesting to hear. You have gotten me to think about things that I normally wouldn’t have even cared about.
* One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future – I love to throw bacon into unexpected dished like chocolate chip shortbread cookies with bacon, pecan pie with bacon crust, bacon ice cream. I also love the UK so I took my Hubs on a week-long pub crawl in London to see Hampton Court Palace’s still functioning Tudor style kitchens, eat roasted chicken and thyme crisps, and visit the Winchester from Shawn of the Dead.

Age – 33
Location – Atlanta, GA
Hometown – rural Alabama
Profession – ecommerce
Marital status – Just celebrated our 1st Anniversary
Children? – Not planning on having kids, but we love our fuzzydog as if she were
Likes – traveling, crafty stuff, milk glass, vintage “junk”, paper, and meeting fun new people
Dislikes – snakes, spiders, lies, fake orange foods, root beer, milk, being told what to think or believe, and the color pepto pink.
How you found That Wife – via Google when I was trying to learn more about an LDS friend’s upcoming wedding and why we only invited to the reception. I ended up following you over to Weddingbee around the time my husband proposed, which ended up being a great help in planning our wedding. So, Thanks!!
One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future: I learned how to drive on a vintage blue Ford tractor, and was once on a flight where the pilot had a heart-attack during take-off.
Anything else you think I should know – I have commented under so many screen-names & email addresses it’s insane. I have a case of online identity confusion. Hopefully the upcoming one will be the l.a.s.t change!

Age: 22
Location: Denver, CO
Hometown: Denver, CO
Profession: SAHM
Marital status: married almost 3 years!
Children: a 2 month old boy born a few weeks after T1
Likes: photography, fashion, reading–especially blogs on my iPhone while nursing, working on our house that needed some major love , hanging with my boys, thrift shopping, travel, the beach.
Dislikes: spiders and other gross bugs, cleaning toilets
How you found that wife: through weddingbee. Even though I’m married, I’m still wedding-obsessed
A quirky thing about me: I met my husband when I was 11 and he was 15. My best friend is his little sister and I spent my teen years at their house all the time. He thought we were annoying. Then, when I was 18, his family moved to Dallas (I totally recognize places you talk about btw) and he stayed here. In a matter of weeks after they left, I realized I loved him and he asked me to be his gf. We got married 11 months later.
Anything else: I gave birth naturally with a midwife, in a hospital. So I loved all the birth posts!

- 27 years old (28 in September)
- Currently reside in Chattanooga, TN
- Hometown is just north of Nashville in Clarksville, TN
- Marketing Project Manager for a flooring company in the ‘Carpet Capital of the World’- Dalton, GA
- Married to my husband for almost 5 years
- A 9 year old stepson (children of our own is in the planning stages. I’m in no rush.)
- Like: birthday cake, Disney World, jam bands, my husband’s homebrew, getting lost in a good book
- Dislike: busy body/gossipy people, summer in the south, owning an older house that always seems to need work, worrying about money
- I found That Wife through Caitlin at healthytippingpoint.com. She made a comment about really wanting children while reading pre-birth entries about T1. I was hooked after I started reading. We are probably opposites in every way, but I really admire you for sharing your story and love your writing style.
- Quirky Thing about Me: We have a ton of animals at our house. 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 rats, and 3 hens that have free roam of our backyard (and we live in the city limits).
I’ve linked to my ‘healthy living blog’ that I started while I was laid off last year. I’ve gone through a couple of blogs over the last few years, but I never feel satisfied with the direction. Photographing my food on a daily basis is not for me. I’m in the process of reinventing my blog life once again.

* The first bloggy person I ever met in real life was Pengy!!! She was in DC and tweeted about getting from the Airport to downtown and I volunteered to give her a ride! I ended up handing out with her, d’orsay, and frog for drinks that night! We discussed blogging and shared blogger interests and That Wife was much of the conversation on how bold and fantastic you are!!!

Age – Just turned 30
Location – Los Angeles, CA
Hometown – New Orleans, LA
Profession – Television Executive
Marital status – Married since Dec 2009, dating since April 2000 (!)
Children? The TTC adventure begins next year
Likes or dislikes – Likes caramel, dogs, reading and watching movies with the husband. Dislikes Celery, closed-mindedness, LA Traffic and entitlement
How you found That Wife – post Weddingbee. I loved reading about your wedding as I personally know no Latter Day Saints and found it really intriguing.
One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future – I also grew up on a farm for the first 9 years of my life, and am now a vegetarian. My parents are from different countries, so my childhood was kinda like a sitcom around the holidays.
Anything else you think I should know – Though I’ve never commented, I’m a very regular reader, and really appreciate your candor about marriage and parenting. Even though being a vegetarian isn’t the same as being an LDS, it is a lifestyle that gets questioned and commented on quite regularly even here in LA. We know we’re in for many lectures once we’re parents, and it’s inspiring to see someone stick to their convictions in a way that isn’t judgemental nor self-righteous. Thanks!

* One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future (this is the point where I always say that I raised pigs in my front yard growing up, or that I can blow milk out of my eye, or that my husband grew up in Poland) I went to college to become a Marine Biologist and ended up a contract attorney. That’s boring but true. I have two cats named Hobbes and Hazel: they have been professionally photographed

* One quirky thing about yourself that might help me remember you in the future: I broke my boyfriend’s neck a month after we moved in together. He likes to tell people he was jacked by ninjas. He is a dork.
