This weekend I have… a really big wedding. Not big as in number of guests, big as in huge potential for me professionally and lots of possibility for growth. It’s the kind of wedding I would love to shoot every weekend if I could, bursting with details and populated with the nicest people you’ll ever meet (they even told me they wanted T1 to come along, he’s not, but I thought the invite was sweet).
Gah! I’m so excited. And a bit nervous. I’ve got the “dream team” of prime lenses though: 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.4, and 135 2.0, as well as my 16-35 2.8. Wish me luck! I’m very excited to be share the images with you in a few weeks (expect bunting and lots of it).
A few shots from mini “Mommy and Baby” winner session that I shot this week. The winner, Amy, is new to my old congregation, so we actually met each other on Sunday, she modeled for me on Monday, and then she came to my That Wife meetup at The Soda Gallery on Tuesday. Sad that this friendship won’t be continuing, I had a great time with you this week Amy!

Hey Jenna, quick question …
Do you bring both camera bodies when you shoot weddings? How do you navigate swapping out lenses? Do you carry them with you? Just use them at certain points in the night?
Thanks!
Sarah

I do, and I think ALL wedding photographers should have two bodies with them at a wedding. What would you do if your body broke and you didn’t have a backup?
Sometimes I wear both bodies at once, but I would rather not. If I have a second shooter, I don’t, because I know that the second can help handle having the variety of shots that I want. On days when I do shoot alone and wear two bodies, I stop doing so at the reception. Things move slower there and so I have time to switch, even when I’m switching slowly
When shooting alone I like to have two bodies for the bride getting ready and the ceremony. Those are two of the fastest parts of the day for me.

WE ARE SO EXCITED!!! In fact, I just got back from hanging some bunting in the tent (which went up this morning!), and we’re going back to hang more after lunch!

ahhhhh! I want to have a baby so you can take our picture.
I am NOT letting husband talk me out of “spontaneous” pictures next time you are in NYC. I love your style.
Logistically, though, how do you manage a chair on railroad tracks? Your hands were filled with cameras, no doubt, and Mommy Model’s were filled with baby. How did you do it?!

Hi, please be careful when on the railroad right of way. Being on the track like that is trespassing. Even if a train goes through only once a week, it is not a good place to hang out and move furniture onto. Texas is # 2 in the country for trespassing fatalities. There are over 400 deaths a year in the country.
