We made it into the car and we are going to try to do the full drive in one shot, through the night. I’m going to turn this into a liveblog of sorts combined with a bit of braindumping. I’ll be writing from my phone so please pardon my spelling mistakes.
4 pm we made it! I signed my life away and have key in hand. Now I’m wrangling the babe while TH does the same. I’m realizing that moving into a high rise is going to be several vary ts of awful (especially since we are moving in on the busiest weekend of the year), but I adore the employee that is helping us, Krista, and I know she is going to make it as easy as possible.
I think all three of us are just happy to finally be out of our super cramped car! We had every nook and cranny that we weren’t sitting in packed full of the stuff we need for two weeks and anything we didn’t send on the moving truck.
I won’t have Internet until Monday, so we will as if I am able to post before then (business center maybe?) for now T1 and I are chilling on the grass enjoying the sunshine. I’ll check back in soon!
1 pm CST. I just finished a few hours of driving but TH has done most of it less thN 3 hours left!
Did I mention that I can’t see what I’m typing? Apparently I’ve been mKing some strange mistakes. Whoops!
I’ve been listening to a book about thr Columbine shooting while we drive. I cried several times and really like it so far. I think it seems very balanced.
With the stress of moving I’ve been really lax with my eating. Still committed to my new rules about meat eating but indulging in some refined carbs and way too much fat and sugar. I’m looking forward to my first trip to a Chicago farmers market and restocking our kitchen completely with food that fits our new way of eating.
Doesn’t sound like anyone other than Kristen can come to my paintin party, but I realize it was late notice. We will do something soon though!
I’m considering a virtual book club of my own, similar to what Blue-eyed bride is doing, but only for nonfiction books. I’m just kind of “over” fiction lately for some reason. Would anyone like to join in finishing a non fiction book wig me once a month? I haven’t worked out any other details in my mind.
It is 8 am CST and we are about halfway there. I still haven’t spent a single moment driving.
We are listening to In Defense of Food and TH is officially a believer. Hooray! Our new favorite books are Nurtureshock and In Defense of Food. You should read both.
U2 is tired of being in his car seat.
Apparently I have to update near the top because I am using the web browser and can no longer get the WordPress app to work for That Wife. Anyone else ever had this problem?
We are in Oklahoma. I haven’t driven yet because TH is a rock star. I should be napping so I can take over for him soon.
We just took a nap in thenparking lot of a McDonalds.
Ree, Pioneer Woman, lives in Oklahoma. Does anyone know where exactly?
U2 is still sleeping. I’m grateful.
It took me 14 hours of straight work to clean the apartment from top to bottom and I still think we aren’t going to get our deposit back because it wasn’t good enough.
I love TH. He really is the one that made this move happen.
We took Grunty to Jason’s Deli at 9:30 pm tonight. It was incredibly classy.
Our car is loaded down with stuff like you wouldn’t believe.
Apparently the amount of stuff we had stuffed in our 1bed+den is comparable to the national average for a 2 1/2 bed. How do we have so much stuff?
I am covered in mosquito bites. Lately I always am.
The 500GB hard drive on my computer is full. TH finally agreed to get me 2 TBs.
We have two families in particular to thank for helping us move. To the G fam and thr L fam… we love you and we will miss you. Come join us at Booth next year!

Oh Jenna, don’t even worry about T1 out late – baby T has been in a bar (daddy’s workplace…) at 10pm and at Walmart at midnight. Both were in her jammies as last ditch “please fall asleep” efforts but babies are stubborn!
Have a safe drive! I hope T1 is feeling sleepy!

moving is rough.
You should get an external drive, for pictures and such, and then only keep what you need regularly on the hard drive. It’s cheaper than upgrading the computer itself, but just as good for storage, then if you have multiple computers later you can access them on both.
Drive safe!

Good luck on your drive and BIG MOVE! How exciting! Still wish you were coming to LA though….;) And I feel the same way when I have one of the boys out with me late at night at the store – yep, it’s 9:30 and my baby is still awake. Say what you will, I don’t mind!

Moving is NOT FUN!
I laughed when I read how you have more stuff than should reasonably fit in your one bedroom + den. When my husband and I moved a little over a year ago, we had so much stuff we totally underestimated the size of moving truck we’d need. We ended up having to take TWO 4-hour trips between our old place and the new one!
Good luck with the drive and the move-in!

U2 = T1? I’m guessing typo as well, but it’s a cute one.
I can’t believe you’re driving all that way.. well done you guys. Some more serious family bonding time, so that’s a positive!
I cleaned our last 1-bedroom flat for DAYS and we still didn’t get much of our deposit back.. hardly anything, in fact. Almost makes me wonder why I bothered if they’d made their mind up to get it ‘professionally cleaned’ anyway.
Happy and safe travels!

Regarding the amount of stuff- I accumulated so. much. stuff. during 4 years of college life, due to my college having on campus apartments instead of dorms. When I moved to Japan, I sold almost all of it. I was left with clothes, books, and pictures/sentimental things. Since then, I’ve gotten rid of even *more* stuff, and it feels so good- I purge about four times a year, even if it’s just a few things. It took me a long time to get to where I’m ruthless with giving away possessions, but it’s very freeing!
Right now I’m working on scanning in all my random photos from back in the day before digital, and then I’ll probably give most of them away in the form of albums for Christmas. My next project is to list all my books, and then sell them all. Here’s to my entire life on an external harddrive, that lives in a firesafe lock box, haha
Have happy and safe travels! We’re heading out to Chicago later this afternoon- I can’t wait to see that shiny bean everyone keeps talking about!

“U2″ is cracking me up! I assume the T9 on the phone would rather it be “U2″ than “T1.”

The Pioneer Woman lives west of Pawhuska, which is west of Bartlesville, which is north of Tulsa–probably not on your way. I actually went storm chasing out near her ranch once!

Would you recommend Nutureshock for those of us without kids? Or better to wait until our family is more than just us two in order to really “get” it?
I can’t imagine what cleaning took 14 hours in your 1 bedroom apartment?!?

When we moved from our apartment complex, our cleaning rules were INCREDIBLY strict. We had to pull out the appliances and clean under/behind them, shampoo the carpets, and even remove the storm window panes and clean between them!! We were given a whole packet of instructions detailing what we were supposed to do. It was nuts. If Jenna and TH’s landlord had rules like that (and provided that they want their deposit back), I can see how cleaning would have been a big task.

Yay! Welcome to Chicago! I’m sorry I can’t join the painting party tomorrow, but I hope you enjoy the beautiful weather and get some well-needed rest now that your long long drive is over.
I’m already in one online book club and would worry about overcommitting, but I bet you’d have a club with good commenters… it’s tempting.

We left our apartment perfect and they still took out 300 dollars. I thought we would get the full amount back.
I love In Defense of Food. I am almost done. I just had a snow cone that I am sure broke all of the rules but it is 100 degrees.
Moving is the worst and I feel like everyone is allowed to eat French Fries when they move.
