Lately I’ve felt overwhelmingly busy (in my consults with Kelli for the FrancyPants Mentoring she called me “robot”
) and I go to bed each night trying to figure out how to get more done the next day (like not spending so much time on That Wife!).
The newest stage of development for T1 is definitely contributing to this though, as all of the sudden I have a whole new level of babyproofing that has to be done. He’s walking everywhere now, and I’ve had to clear off the bottom two levels of the bookshelf in the living room, but I missed a magazine holder yesterday and I walked out of the office to find this mess. As you can see he was quite proud. This room was unusually clean too, since I vacuumed yesterday!

Yes, it’s very cute, but hard to keep up with. I’m the exhausted mother of a toddler and he isn’t even a year old yet.

I haven’t been taking any pictures lately either, because I sent my camera off to be cleaned and serviced. Hard to be without it for so long, but nice to have it back working in like-new condition again.
What is the point of this post? I guess to say that I’ve got to buckle down and get on top of things so I don’t feel so overwhelmed. Also that having a walking baby is harder (and cuter) than I thought.

He looks so cute. I imagine it’s hard to stay upset with him when he grins like that.
On the plus side, chasing a walking baby around helps burn off extra calories.

I didn’t realize you can have your camera cleaned and serviced! Thank you for mentioning it. I have a Canon Rebel and would love to maintain its good health.

AH, yes. Baby-proofing. There comes a time in every parents life when suddenly you have to view your home in a completely different light. And you can either keep the home the way it is and just be on your child 24/7 making sure they don’t disrupt anything (or spend an eternity cleaning up behind them) or you finally succumb to the realization that you simply can’t have certain things of a decorative nature in your home for awhile.
For instance, our bookcase is pretty sad and top heavy. Nothing can be placed on the bottom unless we feel like cleaning it up constantly. No cute little side tables with what-not on them. I could go on. About a year ago we were so sick of not being in control of our house and spent an entire night putting in cabinet stops, door guards, and evaluating what/what not we wanted the children to have access to. We called it “2010 Take Back the House Night”. Someday when we no longer have toddlers in the home I can go back to decorating precisely how I want to, but for now, I’m sharing my home with little ones. It’s fun but exhausting sometimes!

This comment and this post in general are making me even more anxious about the possibility of kids in our NY apartment. Setting aside a “playroom” is not an option, when we only have about three rooms anyway!

We don’t have a playroom either. The toys are mostly congragated in some large woven basket things in our “office” – the space that seperates the living room and kitchen. Since we don’t have a dedicated room to toys and kids stuff (and even if we did have a dedicated room) we have to be diligent about not having way too many toys. Some people seem to acquire SO many toys and never, ever get rid of them and pretty soon the house is crawling with toys in every spare nook and cranny.
Since that would drive us crazy and we don’t have the room for it, we do two things: we don’t go crazy buying them new toys or other baby/toddler gadgets, rarely if ever (they get plenty for birthdays, Christmas) AND we rotate them so they aren’t all out anyway. About once a month my husband fetches the blue bin out of our storage closet upstairs and switches out the toys…every few weeks or so it feels like new toys! And, we don’t have them ALL out.
As for baby-proofing- that’s what the unique time life called mother-of-toddlers means. You don’t get to keep things where you’d like to keep them for a little while. Just how it goes! But, it’s temporary, and I’m sure when someday I’m missing my little ones because they’ve grown up into big, crazy teenagers, I’ll wish I could go back to this time when the hardest thing about motherhood was baby-proofing the home!

has church gotten a million times harder now that he walks? that always seems like the turning point for me. when I no longer enjoy it because my child wants to RUN EVERYWHERE. between the learning to walk and nursery it is so HARD!

Oh, I totally get this. Isn’t it nice in a strange way to be without your camera? I bet you’ll want to smooch it when you get it back.

oh wow! he’s already walking! My boy walked at 12 months. How can you keep up with everything while watching for a 1 year old. My life seems so crazy now, cause he wants to go everywhere without help and touches everything! I lack of idea on how to entertain him too! All he loves to do is to smash his toys! booh

T1 is so cute. I can’t get over it. I’m sure you hear he’s cute all the time so it might not register each time you hear it but he really is so so cute. And, I can’t believe he’s walking already! How exciting!

Your life has just become something else, hasn’t it?
Hang in there– once you master/get used to whatever they start doing– they start doing something else!
Wait until you start potty training!!!

He looks like a PERSON, not a baby, anymore. I love the candid shots you get of him with his tounge out. I bet that’s a lifelong look for him, and someday his wife and kids will love the photos of that same face from childhood!

Haha, seriously! It’s so cute. I got a picture of my boyfriend the other day rock climbing and he had his tongue out just like that and I can just imagine pictures of him as a kid doing the same thing when he’s concentrating on something! I have a nephew who does it too. So cute.
