Giveaway: Oreck Forever Series Gold Vacuum
Happy 11/11/11. That trio of elevens has brightened my morning for really no reason at all, and because I’m feeling so happy I figured… why not give away a vacuum cleaner today?
Yes, you read that right. I’m about to give one of YOU a vacuum cleaner. Oreck contacted me wondering if I would be interested in reviewing their new Forever Series Gold vacuum and I jumped up and down and started clapping. If you read my wedding posts on Weddingbee, you know that clapping in excitement is one of my “things”.

This is the Forever Series Gold vacuum they sent me. I call her Gloria, and I think she’s super sexy, especially compared to all the vacuums I’ve used in the past. Who knew that a vacuum could be designed to look like an item of home decor, right? They also sent me an Ultimate Handheld Vacuum Cleaner. I liked both of these things so much, I decided to make a video about my experience using them. It’s kind of long, but I wanted to cover all sorts of things: how it compares in weight to the two other vacuums we have in the house (yes, our two bedroom apartment currently holds three vacuums), my favorite features, how it measures up in comparison to the vacuum we bought only a few months ago, and how I like the Ultimate Handheld.
If you don’t have time to watch the video, here are a few Pros and Cons.
Pros
It’s pretty.
It’s light, the lightest of the three vacuums we have.
It navigates so smoothly.
It has lights at the base, a feature I really love though I can’t exactly pin down why.
Loading the bag in is incredibly easy, and there is no chance that you will somehow release a cascade of dirt everywhere due to the way it closes up as you remove it. This feature is difficult to explain, but very convenient and really makes using a bag a hassle-free experience.
The way the cord releases from the handle.
The cord is nice and long, I could do our entire apartment and only have to move the cord to a different plug one time.
Two speeds,
It has a LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY. This is the reason it’s called the Forever Series Gold. Their intention is to provide you with a vacuum you never have to replace. To quote from the website:
Oreck will repair or replace, free of charge to the original purchaser, any part (other than edge brushes, brushrolls, and disposable inner bags) that is found to be defective in material or workmanship for the lifetime of the product. This lifetime limited warranty applies to normal domestic use.
Cons
It’s bagged, which means you have to keep buying bags. On the Oreck website they retails for just over $4 each. I estimate that I could vacuum once a week, and use the same bag around 10 times or so (just an estimate based on what I got after one round of vacuuming). A bagged vacuum means a more straightforward suction system though, and according to the brochures less suction lost over time than what you will get with a bagless.
—————–
In short, I think this is a pretty awesome vacuum and I feel quite lucky to have it sitting in my living room right now.

14I had no idea that bagless vs bagged had that much influence on the hose suction. Maybe that plus the dog hair is why I always end up killing the hose suction!

32I learned that one of the reasons Oreck is so good (my mom has one)is the direct suction! Compared to the suction path of my bagless, which is the worst!

P.S. I want this because our vacuum is older than we are!
Reply
40Well I learned that it has two speeds – but I did NOT learn whether or not it works well on dog hair. I’ll take my chances, it’s got to be better than our current one!
PS – I went to summer camp with who I always thought was David Oreck’s daughter, but Wikipedia tells me he has three sons… I guess it was his granddaughter? Do I trust Wikipedia or my memory??
