May Food Challenge: From Mom

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

My mom makes this appetizer called Red Pepper Dip, a sauce which is dumped over a block of cream cheese and eaten without care during the holiday season. It’s time for me to ask her for that recipe so I can learn to make it myself. Is their a recipe your mom made, either frequently or at special occasions that you don’t yet know how to make? Take the time this month to find out exactly how that recipe works so you can one day teach your own children to make the same thing. Or just learn it so you can make it for yourself. On a Tuesday. Just because red peppers were on sale.

I don’t have a picture of red pepper dip, so I’ll post this picture of That Mom instead.

Criteria For This Month:

1. Email, call, or visit (lucky you if you live that close!) your mom and find out one of your favorite childhood recipes.

2. Make the dish yourself, and share the recipe with us.

3. Take pictures (of course!)

I’ve decided I’m going to stop accepting food challenge submissions that don’t have a picture. I’m such a picture person, I want to know what your creation looks like!

To sign up all you have to do is comment below. Remember, you have to sign up for each challenge separately by commenting on the appropriate post. I will add you to a weekly reminder email list, which will help you remember to participate (I would forget if someone wasn’t emailing me!). The last week of the month I ask that you email me your photo and recipe to share with everyone else.

April Food Challenge: Favorite Recipe

Monday, April 6th, 2009

April is my absolute most favorite month of the year. Why? Because it’s my birthday month. Yes, I’m one of those annoying people who get incredibly excited about their own birthday and talk about it for weeks and weeks. I just love my birthday.

I’ve been doing these challenges for three months now, and each month there has been a bit of a theme (well, except for the first month, but I’ll be thinking of that month as the “test run”). I decided that for this month, my favorite month, the theme would be “Favorites“.

For the April Food Challenge on That Wife, you just have to make your favorite dish, take a picture, and then come back over here and share the recipe with all of us!

I’m not sure what I will make yet, but it just might be this black bean burger I made one night last year.

Criteria For This Month:

1. Make your favorite dish (dessert, main dish, side dish, baking, cooking, whatever!)

2. You must share a recipe

3. You must take and share a picture

Oh, and P.S., “favorite recipe” doesn’t have to mean “dish I have made 22 times”. As long as you like it enough to share, even if it’s your first time making it, let us know about it!
