FHE Treat = Fail

Posted by Jenna, Under Married Life

Last night for Family Home Evening (I’ll write a Sunday post about FHE soon!) That Husband and I wrote thank you cards. Does me saying the sentence like that have you picturing piles and piles of completed cards? Well, that would be an incorrect mental picture. We did three total. One for him, and two for me. Now I understand why Emily Post says I can take three months to do it.

To celebrate the succesful completion of said thank you notes we decided to use up some cold stone creamery gift cards I received last year. Thoughts of cake batter ice cream were dancing through my head and we were both giddy like little children.

The giddiness quickly faded upon discovering that google maps had LIED to us. There was no such Cold Stone conveniently located 3 blocks away from us. So we went with our only option.

Though creamy and cold, it was nothing like cake batter. Also, I hate McDonalds (Super Size Me and Fast Food Nation did it) and don’t really like supporting a place that uses a clown and big slippery slide to seduce children into childhood obesity.

boo mcdonalds

Sounds like we will be picking one of these up in the near future!

(It’s an ice cream maker if you can’t tell)

  1. Jenna, just do it. Seriously. Sit down and crank them all out and you will feel so much better as opposed to having them loom over your head. We got all 125 of our thank you notes done and out in 2 weeks of returning from the honeymoon (and ours were long, because I write way too much, as in… most of mine spilled onto the back of the card)… just because I didn’t want to keep thinking about them. You will feel so much better when they are over and done with. Doing them slowly one at a time is like torture. It has to be like a band-aid.. ripped off… all at once!

  6. LOL! I hate it when google maps lies. My gps told me about a frozen yogurt shop that was nonexistent once. I refused to believe it for like 15 minutes and drove around the block 4 times.

Ice cream maker. When I come visit you I want to make ice cream. I love ice cream more than almost anything. And Brie has a lot of good recipes…dang. I want some now.

And I hear ya on McDonalds! Haha, you know that though :) .

  7. Is it really sad that we did almost all our thank you notes on your honeymoon?

It’s a good thing I don’t get car sick at all and was writing for the boring 6 hour drive.

  8. Hahaha! Next time time Stone Cold before you hit the streets! One of my husband’s friends literaly mapped out all of the ice cream shoppes within a 5 mile radius of his house to be “prepared”.

It will take three months so please don’t stress about time. Just do it phases - 5 or 10 a week and you should be fine. Also keeping a file or checklist of those you have done or sent will help out immensely.

  9. That ice cream maker was the first kitchen gadget B and I bought together when I moved in. We love to use it! Sorbets, cookies and cream-yum! I wonder if there is a recipe for cake batter out there somewhere…I haven’t had that in so long!

  10. I’m already dreading thank you cards and I’m not even engaged yet! Ha. Even though McDonald’s isn’t the best place to me either, I think it’s alright to have it every now and then. I like the idea of Family Home Evening by the way!

  11. We have an Ice cream machine and love it. I highly recommend it especially for the hot days of summer.

I actually got most of our thank yous done for the people I knew. There were some that I didn’t get done and for that I will be eternally somewhat guilty. Travis was in charge of the people he knew. I told him, “This wedding and these gifts aren’t just mine.” It never happened. He was of the opinion that the people who gave the gifts knew we appreciated them and it wasn’t necessary for the thank yous.

  17. Julie-All 120 done within 2 weeks! And with your crazy schedules. That is a miracle indeed.

Kacey-We split ours up as well. But since he is from Poland he has to do 15 and I have to do 75. I think he should be able to finish his.

Tasha-That Husband definitely would like to have that attitude, but I won’t let him.

Sounds like tons of others have that ice cream maker! I can’t wait to cash in those gift cards for one.
