What Sunday Posts Should That Wife Write in 2009?
For the last Sunday of each month I’m going to write a new post and also summarize the previous 3 posts from that month.
Sunday-An introduction to Sunday posts and why I want to write them
Who/What is “Mormon”?-Why do they call the LDS church members “Mormons”? Why do we read a book named after him?
LDS Temples: Sacred, Not Secret-The most popular religious post to date, focused on explaining why we have temples, and why a recommend is required to enter.
Finding Joy In The Journey-Inspiring words from our current Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson
FHE: Family Home Evening-FHE happens on Monday night, a time for families to reconnect and grow together spiritually.
Tithing-Read the comments on this post, it was fascinating to learn how tithing functions in other churches.
Christmas In Ancient America-The story of Christmas as it was experienced in Ancient America
This week instead of writing a new post, I’m going to turn to you and ask, sincerely (imagine me really asking it, I have a slightly high pitched voice and I do this weird thing with my eyes when I am really serious) “What do you want to hear?”
I would like to write the things about our church that you really want to read about. I’m open to all topics, and will write as much as I can to give you a satisfactory answer. For some reason, in the past people have expressed reticence regarding asking questions about my belief system. They start their questions with phrases like “I hope this doesn’t offend you” or “Don’t be mad, but,” and I see no need for that. I enjoy sharing my belief system with others, and I encourage any and all questions.
So readers, what topics would you like me to write Sunday posts on? More about the temples? Missionary work? The Book of Mormon? The hierarchy of the leaders of the church? Any request will be considered, and if I don’t feel like it is something I can answer publicly, I will email you personally.
Also, if you have a question you are hesitating to ask in such a public forum, please email me: thatwife @ gmail dot com.
Hi Jenna! I am loving these Sunday post. They are so educational and it’s great to hear it from someone our own age. What about topics such as temple garments? Emergency food storage? Or even more controversial such as the church’s stance on the Mountain Meadows massacre?
Keep it up!

1I would be more interested in knowing about missions, like the one TH did in New York. I’ve seen them mentioned both on your blog and other sources yet I still feel a bit in the dark about them.
I really enjoy your Sunday posts. I do them as well on my blog, in a slightly different context.

2I love the Sunday posts. I’d love to hear more about:
- what goes on during Sunday services in an LDS Church. I know you’re at Church a long time on Sundays, longer than most other Christian Churches, so an overview of the service would be really cool.
- history of LDS? I know a fair bit, but it would be cool to hear if you have classes about the history at BYU and what they focus on.
- what’s your favorite part about the Church? about Salt Lake City? I love the temple, the safety of the city, the rich history.

3I love this! I would like to hear more about the LDS garments, what wearing them entails, whether everyone does it/ is it more of a personal choice or a requirement of the church. What are the rules/guidelines regarding treatment of the garments (colour, washing, when you can take them off etc.)

5As a (Catholic) anthropologist who studies human reproduction, I would be interested in the views of the LDS church on things like birth control, IVF and other infertility treatments, medically necessary abortions, etc. Thank you for explaining things in an accessible way to those of us from different backgrounds!

6Hey Jenna,
I have a couple questions which could probably all be one post. Something like LDS Marriage views or some similar title. Here are some specific things I’ve been pondering:
- If your spouse, whom you are sealed to, dies, and you remarry, are you sealed to two men for eternity? Or restated, does the church in any way discourage remarriage after the death of a spouse?
- How does the LDS faith interpret the passage in Matthew where Jesus tells us that in heaven there will be no marriage and that we will “be like the angels in heaven?” (Matthew 22:23-33)
I really thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. The LDS faith is one I’ve always been curious about.
