A New Home for That Wife

Welcome to the new home of That Wife. I’m still in nesting stage, so you are going to see a lot of changes in the coming weeks, but I just couldn’t wait until it was finished to share it with all of you!

There are many major design tweaks that need to happen, as well as some coding to help things display properly in all browsers, so I would appreciate your feedback about how things look to you.

Want to see why I love this new layout so much? The HUGE pictures I can display!

My sister Shaylene Rene’ took this one:

I took this one:

And the lovely Kelli Nicole took this one:

Isn’t the wider layout gorgeous? Please let me know if you are having any trouble viewing things in your browser (information about your browser would be appreciated).

the bigger pics ARE awesome :) where’s the 60s hairdo girl?? :P

FYI, in my current browser, Google’s Chrome, the prompts “name,” “email address,” and “website” seem off. i.e. “name” appears directly over the 2nd fill-in box, which commenters are actually supposed to type their email in to, I think…

Zoe-I was just going to say the same thing about the prompts. They seem like they are headings for the boxes below them..and I use Firefox

Thanks for the feedback! There are so many bugs to work out. I’m going to work on at least eliminating that text at the top, but I might not be savvy enough to move the prompts above the boxes. We’ll see. :)

Zoe-There should be an updated version of the 60’s hairdo girl on the right side of the screen. Can you not see anything at all? It’s definitely something I need to iron out.

Looks great in Firefox! The comment boxes are a little weird as mentioned but otherwise I am excited for the large photos!

Love it! Big pictures are fab, it’s nice and clean and all looks fine to me (in Firefox on a mac). I would say the 60s chick looks a little weird - the pearls look more where her chin would be than her necklace! Also, perhaps the names could be bigger above the comments, and maybe the font of the comments themselves bigger too.

I thought she maybe looked a little bit chunky myself. I think I’m going to see if I can get someone to design a little bit better logo for me since I don’t really know what I’m doing.

I made the fonts for the comments bigger, what do you think?

Much better. Love the threaded comments too. I’m a little bit jealous, but too lazy to leave blogger!

Very nice, I’ve got firefox 3.0 on a mac and nothing in the layout is broken. Works for Safari as well (though I doubt too many people use that one).

Comments are off here, too. And, you may not want to hear this, but your blog is TOO wide for my computer. I’m sure it would look smashing on my 20″ iMac at work, but on my 11″ PC at home (where I usually read blogs), my screen is not wide enough to hold your whole blog! I’ve always been taught to prevent that (as more and more people are using smaller screen laptops), never make the entire width of your blog greater than 1000px… perhaps you could have just one side bar at 150px and the center section at 850px? Not as big as now, but still far more space than on your previous blog so it will actually fit into small browser windows?

Thanks Julie! Yours are the kind of comments I need, because the majority of people seem to have wide screens, but I don’t want only 80% of people to be able to read, you know? I’m working on configuring the screen so it’s compatible for everyone. It’s definitely aprocess of trial and error :)
