Subscribers
Sometimes I look at google reader to see how many subscribers I have. Then I look at the stats for other bloggers and see how many subscribers the have. Then I compare myself to them. I am not sure what I think of this. Is it silly? Sad? Something everyone does?
Update: Apparently many of you don’t know how to check your subscribers. Don’t blame me once you become addicted! And FYI, you can know how many you have, but you don’t know who. It’s best to use your tracking stats (like statcountercom, or googleanalytics.com) and see where your traffic is coming from to figure that out.
When you are highlighting one of the blogs you read in google reader (you have to be on the individual blog, not in one of your folders), look on the right side of the screen for the words “show details”. Clicking on that will make a box appear which shows you your stats. Jonathan Canlas has 595 subscribers because he is absolutely amazing. I’m going to try to meet him tomorrow.
An even better way to keep track of your subscribers is to use a site like feedburner.com. It’s much more accurate than google reader (reader can be really slow to update your subscribers), and allows you to track usage of your subscribers as well.
Have fun stalking yourself!
Totally guilty!
What’s worse is that I hate that I’m one of my 5 subscribers.

1I definitely do this. I use it as another tool to gauge the interest others have in my blog. I also do this with comments, though that tends to have a pretty direct relationship to subscribers. It was so exciting to gain 12 subscribers or so in a week without realizing it. I don’t think it is anything other than natural.

2Ok, I don’t even know how to DO that! But if you tell me, it is something I will totally do
I feel like such a Google Reader novice now…

I adore you as well. Must be because we have the same name?

Nope, but I do like to see my chart displaying how many people come to blog a day. I like seeing the ups and downs.

5i want to know how to do that! i know i have 15 subscribers but how do i know who?

6I don’t think it’s sad. I’m pretty sure it’s normal. I’m always hoping my blog gets some awesome cool response. But then I come back to the reality that I’m normal. I only have 5 followers. I think more people than that check my blog, but sadly not many comments. Oh well.

7OH NO. I have never thought of that- but now that you piqued my interest I went and looked. I dunno how to feel about it really… I love checking stats but I never thought about doing that. Darn- another obsession begins…

8I think we all do it. You have a fabulous blog, so don’t fret!

9so, really… how do i tell who subscribes and reads my blog?

10Google reader is so far from accurate (or other stats) it isn’t funny!
Buck- You can’t unless it’s via an email subscription on somewhere like feedburner. RSS feed subscribers (through a reader) are anonymous
Jenna- don’t compare! Noone else can BE you! You’re the best at that. I’ll share an article I love with you soon.

So true, google reader isn’t very accurate. But most people would have a hard time figuring out how to burn their feed so I went with the simpler route!

Haha, I check mine religiously too. And you have quite a few more subscribers than I do

12LOL So of course the first thing I did after reading this was to check my stats!
P
I’ve only been blogging regularly in my one blog: http://tobethewholepackage.blogspot.com for a couple of weeks so I was happy to have any subscribers at all.
But yeah I don’t think it’s totally accurate!! I have another blog: http://canadianinparis.blog-city.com and on that one I get thousands of visitors a month but only have one visitor via google reader.
Anywho - point is you’re cool! So don’t sweat the subscriber numbers!

13I hate to admit this but I don’t actually have google reader. I like to go old school and check out links, so really all the links on my blog are more for my sake than anyone who might be visiting.
I do have a tracker though and I am addicted to that. I’m always checking to see who visited me, what they are looking at, and most importantly from where.

14I really like how you took a picture of an apple and an orange.
I don’t know if I really want to look at my stats on google reader - I know that I don’t have a huge following. But that’s okay.

Actually, not my picture this time
I’m such a poser.

I didn’t want to be disappointed, but I looked anyway. I have 20! That’s a lot more than I knew I had.

16my google reader subscriber count is way off and I think that’s because I changed my RSS feed. So it’s not really that accurate. I think I have like 40 on my google reader but on my feedburner it’s more like 450! quite a difference. (totally not trying to brag, just wanted to show the difference of google and feedburner)
but no I don’t compare. like your picture, it really is apples to oranges.

Yeah, google reader is not very accurate. I always feel much happier when I look at feedburner instead!

Haha, since you posted that picture of your google reader I’m going through it going “Oh, I have her!” and “Ooh I never heard of him!”

18You’re my only subscriber!
P.S. I am one of Jonathan Canlas’ subscribers too. He’s amazing. I wanted to splurge on him for my wedding, but didn’t. He makes LDS weddings look so freaking hip!

19It’s not lame of you to check your stats. I’ve never tried looking at my stats on google reader, but I think I will.
