Costs As Much As Having A Baby, Not As Nice To Cuddle With

Posted by Jenna, Under Photography

Blog, meet she-who-has-yet-to-be-named. I have a history of going with Italian names for my possessions. My G9 is named Pia. My Ipod is named Luna. Maybe Lucia? (Thanks Mags!)

I bought the 50mm 1.4 for my first non-kit lens, as suggested by the lovely Kelli Nicole. I can already tell it was a fantastic choice.

My old love, the G9, and my new love, the 50D, together at last. I’m thinking about toting both of them around at my shoots, as the G9 can be quite dependable when it comes to macro shots.

I’ll be writing a post soon about why I chose this particular camera (as I know some of you are interested in investing yourselves, and learning about cameras is so incredibly daunting!)

After a lot of research, I decided to go with the Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home as my camera bag. I went back and forth about buying the Shootsac, but the $179.00 price tag is much more than I can afford right now for a bag that is only used for shooting. I got the 7 Million for $95 on Amazon.

The 7 Million isn’t quite as light and fluffy as the Shootsac is for shooting, but I decided on it in the end because it can double as both a carrying/storage bag and a shooting bag. I am definitely going to do something about the velcro.

What camera bag are you using?

It doesn’t feel as bulky as it looks in this photo. LOL

I don’t have a macro lens yet, but I thought the kit lens handled this flower shot really nicely.

While I was walking around the golf course behind our apartment complex I stumbled on a photographers dream. An old, abandoned, rusted-out truck in the middle of a grove of trees. It might be too far gone to be something I can actually use in a shoot, but I’m excited to bring some friends out here to see what I can come up with. You can’t see it in this photo, but there is actually a tree growing right out of the middle of the bed!

This red and white striped seat was just a few feet away from the truck. Do you think they belong together?

  1. You could name the camera Lucia and then call your business Jenna Lucia Photography. Then you’d still have the nod to your grandmother. I really like the name Lucia.

  2. Lucia’s my confirmation name! She’s also the patron saint of eyes. :-) Again, very photographer appropriate!

How cute that your possessions are all Italian. My mother — who’s first generation American — would totally approve!

  3. Oh, how wonderful. You’re already taking such great shots! I love the nmae Lucia, and I second the thought that you could make your business name “Jenna Lucia”. That is really pretty, and hard to misspell! Can’t wait to see what else you do :)

  5. The flower shot has an almost forboding and strong look to the background which constrasts with the delicate flower.

And I love the seat picture. I remember finding seats like that in old dumps and investigating hidden places in storage sheds. Ah memories.

  6. Oooh, very nice camera. I recently got the 40D. I’ll be interested in hearing why you chose the 50D over all the other ones out there. :)

  7. I love Jenna Lucia! Very cute, sounds cutting edge.

Congrats on your new friend. I very much want a DSLR … considering the Canon, so I’d love to hear about what sold you on her.

  9. Just curious: When you read “Lucia,” are you pronouncing it the Italian way (Lu-chee-ah) or the Spanish way (Lu-see-ah)?

  10. Jenna Lucia is indeed nice.

I’m definitely interested in upcoming posts about this camera… I’d like to buy a manual camera someday. I get so frustrated when the only choice I have is autofocus.

Two posts, one day, babies mentionned twice…. Jenna… you better get done with your degree so you can focus on that one ;)
How is that going by the way. I hope you can finish soon because obviously you habe “baby fever”.

  14. Katherine (a.k.a. Sparkles) says:

Now- why did you choose a Canon instead of a Nikon? Just curious. Is it because your mom and friends use the Canon? Or is the Canon smaller for your hands vs the Nikon might be? My uncle & my fi have Nikon and luv them like they are their children… My other friend shoots with a leica lens and swears by that as well…
Crumpler rocks- I have a computer case I adore that I made by them.

  18. just curious, but what made you go with the canon 50d? i’d love to see a post about your decision in picking out a dslr. :)

  19. Congrats on the new camera!

I’m really happy you’ve started posting more of your photography work on here because I really love it. It’s all been inspriring, so keep it coming and thanks!

I’m looking forward to the post on why you chose that camera because I’ve been looking into getting something a little more complex than my $250 Kodak digital one (although it’s been awesome for me), but I don’t know much about cameras. So thanks for THAT too!

I also love Jenna Lucia, btw. :)

  20. I’d love to hear why you picked what you picked as well. I am close to sold on the Nikon D90, but now that the 50D is almost the same price, I’m waffling.
