March Food Challenge: Eat Your Greens
I realize that this coordination with the holidays thing might be getting old, but it’s just so easy to coordinate the challenges with what the rest of the world is doing.
This month, all you have to do is make a salad (that has some green in it). Not an easy task for That Household, considering we have been married for almost 5 months now and I haven’t even made salad one time. Very naughty I know.
If you need inspiration, head on over to simple life love. She is eating salad (and taking a picture of it) every single day in 2009. What a great resolution!
The Criteria For This Month:
1. It must be a salad.
2. You have to assemble it yourself. No heading to Costa Azul and taking a picture of what the boy behind the counter hands you.
3. It must be green in some way.
To sign up all you have to do is comment below. Remember, you have to sign up for each challenge separately by commenting on the appropriate post. I will add you to a weekly reminder email list, unless you specificy otherwise in your comment. The last week of the month I ask that you email me your photo and recipe to share with everyone else.
Heck yes I’m on this one. I eat spinach salads pretty much every day anyway

11I’m in. I love salads, and it really isn’t hard to do. Plus lettuce or spinach are green…
Does the dressing has to be homemade too?

It would be lovely if it was (so I can steal the recipes), but I think that might be a little too much for me to ask
My goal is to have more participants, not a harder challenge. I’m probably going to try to make my own though!

Hm, I don’t think I’m going to “officially” join in on this one, because I can’t see myself taking the leap from never eating salads to making them myself in one month. However, you’ve inspired me to set a personal goal to eat a salad this month. Sadly, that’s a huge step for me! ha

13Make a salad? Why, I do that nearly every day anyway! Count me in. The real challenge will be remembering to take a picture.

14I can do this one! I’ve got a couple of great recipes that are ‘meals in salad form’ as my fiance calls them.

15Count me in! I love salads! (And a whole assortment of vegetables, so this isn’t a huge leap.) I’m excited!

16I can do this one! In fact hubby asked me to make a chop chop salad so I can show that off!

17I’m in! I pack a salad for lunch at least once a week. I’ve never made my own dressing, though, so that could be the true challenge for me…

18I’m in! I love salads. I generally have at least 3 a week for lunch!

19I’m there! Really! I promise!
I need a way to use our produce box up, I’ve not been good about that.

20Done. This is my first challenge but I’m totally into it. It helps that at my bridal shower over the weekend I got a really cool set of salad tongs and a matching bowl that I’m really excited to use!

21Ooh! Looking forward to participating in my first challenge
I have a yummy salad that I have been wanting to make again & this is the catalyst that I need!

22I’m in! I’ve been wanting to learn a new recipe, and this is the perfect reason!

23This will be tough since Mr. H-B hates salads, but I’m in. Maybe while we’re on spring break at my parents’ house, then I won’t end up eating the whole salad myself.

24So reading through everyone’s comments, everyone is really happy because this is going to be easy for them. Haha, sadly, I’m going to have to work on this since I don’t normally care for salads and like Mrs. H-B, my husband hates salads. In fact my husband hates most fruits and vegetables. Hopefully, I can create something that maybe both of us will enjoy!

You can cheat a bit, make a pasta salad or a fruit salad (with something like granny smith or green grapes in it). Just a thought.

I’ve just re-discovered my love for salads, so I’m definitely in on this one.

26Thanks for the post Jenna! Eating a salad everyday has been both easy and challenging! I’m excited to see that others have been inspired to eat their leafy greens as well!

28The rules of “you must make it yourself” are unfortunately not specific enough for my taste - does buying salad in a bag count? I don’t buy salad in a bag anymore because apparently the harvesting and bagging process is extremely environmentally unsound, but I suspect for many people, salad comes in a bag.
For those who wish to make the switch from salad-in-a-bag to real old fashioned hand-spun salad, I’m going to shamelessly plug my own blog, if that’s allowed here - http://barefootandinthekitchen.blogspot.com/.
I think I’m going to try making a salad with beans for this challenge.

I try to keep the challenges as open to interpretation as possible, specifically so people from all walks of life can participate. The goal isn’t to see who can make the “best” salad by anyones terms, it’s just to get people to participate
