Fledgling Photographers Blogroll

Posted by Jenna, Under Photography

I don’t consider myself a professional photographer, I don’t feel like I haven’t earned that title yet. But it’s no fun to call yourself an amateur. So I’ve decided to think of myself as a Fledgling Photographer. Like Clarence, I’ve got to earn my wings!

Are you a Fledgling Photographer like myself?

I’d like to create a blogroll of new photographers on my blog. Being a new photographer is hard. Compliments on your work mean the world to you. You don’t have a lot of followers on your blog, you are working hard to network and generate new content, you are trying to learn the tricks of the business really quickly. You are poor after dumping all of your money into cameras and lenses and editing programs.

I figured that by creating a blogroll, we could all become each others followers. Cheerleaders really! We could network with each other, sharing little tips and tricks that we have learned. I can talk to you all about whether or not I like the Lightspehere I bought last week. You can tell me about your favorite lens in your arsenal.

Best of all, we can comment on each others blogs on a regular basis. Don’t tell me you don’t L-O-V-E, LOVE comments. Comments make my day! (Well, the nice ones do.)

I can’t create this blogroll all by myself, is that I don’t want to insult someone by suggesting to them that I would like to add them. What if they think to themselves “She must be saying I suck, because she asked me to be added to her list.” I don’t want anyone to think that! So I’m going to have to ask that you come to me.

The only thing I ask of those who add themselves to the blogroll, is that you be willing to participate. Don’t sign up and then just sit around soaking in the extra comments you are getting from your fellow new photographers without contributing in return. Maybe you could create a Fledgling Photographer blogroll of your own and spread the news!

If you consider yourself a Fledling Photographer, with a dedicated photo blog (this part is a requirement), and you would like to be added to my blogroll, please let me know!

And because a post with no photos is no fun, a quick sneakety-peek of the ceremony I was privelged to shoot last week! My first wedding ceremony. Eeeek!

You seem to be on a roll lately with all your ideas. Listen, I in no way am I a photographer. But I love photography and am trying to get better at it. I take courses but so far I just feel I just need to get out and take pictures in order to learn. There is another course starting soon that sounds great though. So as far as your idea about blog roll, I would love to get involved but I am not sure if I ca nbe of use to others except for giving comments. I am not buying new things for my camera just yet so no information there. I also don’t have an edit program yet, there is still much to learn about taking the right picture in the first place. So let me know if you want me to enroll. I would love to,

  3. Oh, and if I don’t make it, it’s totally okay. :) No worries! I’d probably consider myself an amateur anyway and no where near a fledgling photographer. Thanks for the consideration though!

  12. One day, one day soon, when we have the money in our budget for me to finally set up a website, etc, I would love to be added to said blogroll. Or I could set up a free blog for my photos (since I’m probably using not having the money as an excuse to self-sabotage, ha).

  13. That photo is beautiful. I kind of want to fly to you and demand that you take pictures of me in my wedding dress.

Honey, there is absolutely no demanding necessary for requests like that. :)

This might actually occur — please do not be alarmed when a tall, brown-haired, wedding obsessed, blog lover (strung out on M&Ms from the cross country flight) shows up at That Studio for Those Pictures :D

  17. I just wanted to say that your work continues to blow me away.

I’ve seen some just plain awful overphotoshopped wedding pictures from people that have been doing it for years but people hold that up as the only thing you can do.

Your few recent outings into weddings and the like comes across as a piece of art. It just amazes me really how you make it seem almost effortless.

  19. Hi Jenna,

I see you already started your blogroll. Can you see if you want to enroll me? I am just a beginner but would love to get involved. I just put my photography blog on line (separate from my personal blog) and still need to update a lot of pictures, but at least it’s a start.

  20. Better late than never I guess! I decided (separate from this post and your blogroll) to start a blog to throw all my photos on, instead of cluttering up my main one. So if you wouldn’t mind adding me onto there! I promise to work on this blog tomorrow and make it better and more thorough!

  24. I love your idea! I know it’s been a while since you wrote this, and I feel bad for finding it so late in the game. However, I have a photo blog about the things I experience as a city firefighter, and I’d love to be a part of your blogroll if you’re still adding folks to it.

Thanks, and what a great promotional idea for all of us!
