That Sister: Engaged!

Posted by Jenna, Under Uncategorized

I’m hearing rumors of another Seattle wedding with Kelli Nicole taking the photos on July 25th of this year. Yep, she’s doing the typical Mormon thing, planning her wedding in just 3 months. Luckily she has Mrs. Avocado as her MOH to make it happen. :)

I already told her that I want this to be my bridesmaid dress, and she said yes. I can already tell she’s going to be an easy going bride.

Do you think I can convince the seller to make me this dress out of something other than sweatshirt material or jersey though?

  9. To who? Do I know him? Oh it seems like our siblings are way to young to marry. Or is it it that we are just getting older? Congrats Jenna and your sister. You can email your answer if you’d like for confidentiality. :)

How awesome! Did she meet him at school? We live just outside of SLC now (Murray) and it is a great! I bet he is an awesome guy!

She actually met him at Dane Christensen’s wedding, since Dan is Kjel’s brother-in-law. I met him that night as well, although he was a little out of it since he had his wisdom teeth out that day. :)

many congratulations to that sister and that wife! beautiful ring also! i imagine if you were to convo the seller she would be receptive to making the dress in a different fabric. maybe you could offer to furnish the fabric for her to ensure it’s the right color, weight, drape, etc. i cannot say no to a dress with pockets and ruffles and a kick pleat. would you have her shorten the sleeves as well (since the wedding will be in July)?

    Reply

    Jenna Reply:

Most definitely! Even though Seattle is “up north” it still gets hot up there!

    mrsgilmore Reply:

ahh yes, bracelet length sleeves and sweat shirt material won’t get you far most places in july. any idea what fabric? same color? nonetheless, it is a very lovely dress.

And what a seriously stunning ring that is! I am so jealous you get to help someone plan their wedding.. none of my friends are quite there yet and I have a sneaking suspicion my brother and his long-time girlfriend will opt to elope.

I was engaged for a long 18 months and there were way too many times I wish we’d done it quickly.. your sister has the right idea!
Can’t wait to see as her plans come together (as long as you keep posting about it).

What she surprised? Or was it kinda planned out like yours? (meaning…she knew they were getting married)
Also…is it really typical of LDS to plan a wedding in 3 months?

I knew we were getting married, we have been talking about it for months. We even bought the ring about two months ago and it has been sitting in his closet calling my name! But I did not expect it when it happened!

    Reply

    Jenna Reply:

Yep! My sister will do three, my cousin did it in three, my best friend did it in three, a friend from college is doing it in two. Would you like me to go on? It’s definitely the standard, not the exception. I had a super long time to plan my wedding by Mormon standards with 7 months!

  35. So exciting. I’m looking forward to my baby sisters wedding some day. In another post (so we don’t hijack this exciting one) can you talk about some of these mormon standards (marrying young, 3 month engagements, etc.)? I like that you’ve been teaching us about your church, but I’d also like to learn more about the LDS culture - how you think some of these standards came to be, your thoughts on them, etc. Enjoy this exciting time!

Great idea for a post! I’m shooting a very, very traditional LDS wedding (held in the basketball hall of the Church meetinghouse) on the 2nd of May, so I’ll wait to do it until then so I can hopefully show you a few pictures of what a reception is like, but there are definitely many differences that those who have never attended an LDS wedding or been friends with someone who planned one have never heard of.
