Name/URL
Dear Blogger friends,
And by “Blogger” I mean the blogging service Blogger. I used to be one of you. In fact, my old blogs That Bride and That Girl are still hosted on blogger, although I don’t update them anymore. Although I love WordPress much, much more than Blogger (someday I will tell you a few reasons why), Blogger still holds a special little place in my heart. I’m still see that orange logo quite often, when visiting your blogs and leaving comments (I really try to remember comment often, as I so dearly love getting comments from all of you).
Today I’m writing to ask a small and simple favor. Would you mind adding the option for me to comment using my name/url when I leave you a note?
This is what your comment page will look like if you have it turned on:
See the option to select “Name/URL”? Some of you don’t have that turned on, and I would really love to use it!
Just visit the your Dashboard in Blogger, click on “Comments”, and change the answer to the question “Who Can Comment?” to “Anyone-Includes Anonymous Users.”
Thanks so much!
That Wife
P.S. This post has me wondering, for those who turned off comment verification, have you turned it back on again because of spam?
Heaven knows I’m not popular enough to worry about spam…but my ‘all users’ button was already selected. I guess it will stay that way indefinately unless an escaped group of crazies decide to descend upon my blog.
1I only allow people who are registered (including Open ID) to comment. And it’s totally about the SPAM. ‘Cause I clearly think you’re a cool chick!
2There ya’ go.
3I’m always sad when I have to use my blogger account over my name/url.
4Mine was already set. So yay! But I still have email notification before I publish a comment.
5I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on WordPress as I’m thinking of moving over at some point.
6I checked immediately - mine was already set too. Yay!
7Amen, amen, and amen. I use openid to comment, but I find that since it is another step for the blog owner to get through openid back to my blog, they often don’t bother visiting me back. Whereas if I comment with name/url they almost always at least check to see who it was who was commenting.
And my google/blogger account is set to private so if I have to use it to comment they can’t find me at all!
8I turned by comments verification off and have received zero spam. And mine is already set to all.
9Mine has always been set to All/Including Anonymous, and already had the word verification off, but I did just want to say that in the time since your post as proof, I received no spam posts at all.
I had been contemplating removing the anonymous setting though, because I am SO SICK of people who visit on a typical basis changing to ‘anonymous’ to leave something that they don’t have the guts to say with their regular username. It really infuriates me! If you don’t want what you are saying tied to yourself, perhaps it is a sign that you shouldn’t be saying it at all?? But, I haven’t done it yet because I do have enough people that post regularly with WordPress blogs!

I’m of a similar mindset. I turned my anonymous response off for just this reason. Someone visited my blog from an email link (yes I tracked it back and it was an email I’d sent!) and then basically ripped me a new one because I said I’d been disappointed with my experience with probiotics.
PROBIOTICS!
I thought it was important people understand that not everyone has great results with them. I’ve been to my doctor, and she agreed. Probiotics are not for everyone.
I’m fine with varying points of view and lively discussion, but if someone wants to leave a comment, it needs to be something they’d be OK having associated with their name. Trolls are not OK, especially when they are mean.
Thank you for posting this! I just had to sign up for a blogger account (from WordPress and btw I like WordPress more) and I had NO IDEA how to fix that. Thanks
11I’m pretty sure I have that setting, I’ll check — but I hate anon comments, which this setting allows! I’d much rather you use your blogger id — and link your website. Just so that there’s a link!
Sorry, pet peeve, can you tell.
12I actually have had a big issue with spam since I switched to wordpress that I never had with blogger. I don’t know what it is, but wordpress makes it so much easier to deal with the spam comments so it doesn’t bug me too much.
13Changed it too. We’ll see where it takes me, with spam and all. Can’t wait to hear from you.
14I just adjusted my settings…I took the word verification off a while ago and it has been ok. There is some spam, but not an overwhelming amount.
I’m making the switch to wordpress too here in the near future. I like it SO much better!
