My mom makes this appetizer called Red Pepper Dip, a sauce which is dumped over a block of cream cheese and eaten without care during the holiday season. It’s time for me to ask her for that recipe so I can learn to make it myself. Is their a recipe your mom made, either frequently or at special occasions that you don’t yet know how to make? Take the time this month to find out exactly how that recipe works so you can one day teach your own children to make the same thing. Or just learn it so you can make it for yourself. On a Tuesday. Just because red peppers were on sale.
I don’t have a picture of red pepper dip, so I’ll post this picture of That Mom instead.
Criteria For This Month:
1. Email, call, or visit (lucky you if you live that close!) your mom and find out one of your favorite childhood recipes.
2. Make the dish yourself, and share the recipe with us.
3. Take pictures (of course!)
I’ve decided I’m going to stop accepting food challenge submissions that don’t have a picture. I’m such a picture person, I want to know what your creation looks like!
To sign up all you have to do is comment below. Remember, you have to sign up for each challenge separately by commenting on the appropriate post. I will add you to a weekly reminder email list, which will help you remember to participate (I would forget if someone wasn’t emailing me!). The last week of the month I ask that you email me your photo and recipe to share with everyone else.

I’m in - I just asked my mom for a recipe I am dyig to recreate. Does it matter that I asked already in april?
I did not sign up for the other challenge because I already send my present for mothers day this sunday. It’s a book signed by the author which I hope she will like.

I would be in - except the only thing my mom makes is takeout. I seriously have only ever seen her make: microwave burritos, steak-ums sandwiches, jell-o cheesecake, and slice and bake cookies. She does make cranberry sauce every thanksgiving, but that is the only recipe I’ve ever seen her follow - and I don’t eat meat, so I’m not going to eat it on anything, and well, it’s not that good by itself. I get the point of this challenge, but I’m seriously gonna have to dig through my grandma’s recipes or something - because not all mom’s cook! (Yeah, I have a really hard time buying mother’s day cards because they’re all like, “to the woman who cooked all our meals and did the laundry” and there are none for “the woman who built all our computers from pieces and did the family taxes.”
To participate, should I get a recipe from my grandmother’s recipe box or should I get a recipe from my dad, the family cook?

I’d like to participate, I’m going home this weekend and it’ll make her day to cook together. I’ll just have to narrow down my favorites to pick a recipe. I love everything she makes!

You are so creative! This is adorable for May - it also might have brought a tear to my eye. Is that weird? Maybe I’m just hormonal.

My mom gave me all of my favorite recipes of hers in a homemade cookbook for my wedding shower this summer… I’m going to have to rack my brain to think of one to ask her for.

gah, *wrack* my brain. I hate it when other people confuse homophones, can’t believe I just did it myself, sorry.

Sign me up! I have some from both my mother and grandmother I want to learn how to make. Plus my mum and I talk a lot about food- so it works out wonderfully!
Good thinking!

Ahh, perfect! Mom and I have talked weekly about recipes since getting married. Last night I made her version of stuffed bell peppers - it was delicious. Moms always have the best recipes! Count me in - I’ll get a new recipe and cook it soon.

Can I do a grandmother recipe instead of a mother? Grandmothers are mothers, too!
