The Bugg
The Bugg has arrived! And oh my goodness, if you have been considering one, go here and order one immediately.
I deleted my previous post because it had malware (according to TH) so I’ll explain exactly what the BodyBugg is once again for those who weren’t listening before. The Bugg is a device which measures calorie output with a 90% accuracy rate. It measures how fast your body is moving, the amount of heat your body is giving off, the electrical conductivity of your skin, and skin temperature. If your the science-y type you can read about it in detail here.
It’s thin, light, black and incredibly comfortable. I can wear it for several days at a time without recharging it. When I do plug it in I log on to BodyBugg.com (a service which costs about $14/month) and click the mouse a few times to get a chart showing me how many calories I’ve burned, the rate per hour, and the number of steps I’ve taken. I have the option of plugging in what I’ve eaten but I won’t be using it because I’m not ready to give up Fitday yet.
Though I was resistant to the idea of buying it That Husband convinced me to get the digital display in hopes that I wouldn’t have to renew my paid subscription to the website and plug in my stats to Fitday instead. As of right now, I think it should work.
The digital display is a-may-ZING. It tells me in real-time how many calories I’ve burned so far that day, how many burned yesterday, and what my target is.
I took these pictures at 5:43 PM and I was only at 1335 for the day so far…
But my target is 2150. I admit I didn’t make my goal for the day, but knowing how far behind I was spurred me to action and I got a lot closer.
The day before I had a photo shoot and I not only met my goal, I burned 141 calories more than my goal. Photography is so good for my health.
The digital display also tells me how many steps I’ve taken and does a really great job of upgrading in real-time.
That day I burned 141 extra calories I didn’t even reach the 10,000 step goal. Wearing this for only a few days made me realize I don’t need to be working out for hours every day to burn enough calories to lose weight, I really just need to move around a little bit more.
The goal number of steps. I really will get there someday.
With the BodyBugg on my arm and my calories being counted in Fitday I feel really motivated to stay focused and dedicated. Have I lost a pound? Nope, but as long as I keep my deficit to an average of 600 calories/day the pounds will come off eventually.
Whenever I start to worry about whetherwearing this big black band on my arm ruins my outfit I remind myself how tough I look with it on.
I look tough, right?
Just wanted to tell you I love your writing and your honesty! I think the outfit is very stylish! The BodyBugg looks pretty cool too :0)
1Awesome. I had no idea such things even existed!
Off topic question - how did you delete a post so that it doesn’t even show up in Google Reader? I’ve deleted posts both in blogger and WordPress, and they still show up in other peoples’ readers. Which is annoying.
2Wow, that is super cool and I have to have one. That is on my list of things to get.
3Oooh, that’s really cool. I’d always forget to put it on, though…
4Good luck Jenna. I am excited to read updates on this.
5I’m so glad you posted this! I read your other post about the Bugg (before it got taken down) and I was so intruigued that I bought one! I have been wearing it for 3 days now and so far I LOVE it. Thanks so much for sharing this awesome resource! I was worried when the post was taken down that maybe you decided not to write about it anymore, and now I am hoping that you will write more about it so I can keep being inspired. The Bugg is great!
6That looks REALLY interesting…please keep us posted on how it works for you!
7That really looks great. Is there a way to put it up higher so you are hiding it under your shirt sleeves? Just wondering how much you could stretch it, or if it had to be in a specific place. I like the idea behind it, but could NOT deal with my students asking me what it was every five minutes!
8Thanks for sharing Jenna! I’m anxious to hear how it helps you with your goals. Keep us updated!
9I have to have one! You have inspired me!!! I am sure in LA no one would even think twice about something that is supposed to make you skinny!!
10Oh that’s pretty cool….I want one now and that would help me think twice before eating something bad knowing how many calories I’ve burned.
11Very cool!
12i’ve heard nothing but great things about the bugg. maybe you can fashion your outfits around it. think of it as a starting accessory and plan your ensembles from there. good luck!
13What an incredible device! I wish I could get one. I’m all about accuracy and it would be nice to know exactly how many calories I’m losing when I’m working out. Thank you for doing these posts. You inspired me to start counting calories and it’s helped me so much already. I’ll have to do a post of my own after I’ve been doing it for a little bit longer.
14I’m definitely jealous of this! I think it would be awesome and a very good motivator for me to help lose the last 10-15lbs before my October wedding….unfortunately, cost is a prohibitive factor right now…our prairie years life doesn’t allow for an indulgence like this….I can’t wait to see your progress though!!!
15Jenna, I’m a little confused about the digital display. Is it its own separate deal? like a watch? If it is separate, how does it get the info from the main bugg? Will it work in showing you the info even without the website? Is that why you are hoping it will still work after the subscription runs out? Do you wear the display around all day too?
16That is so neat! Ever since I’ve seen these on Biggest Loser, I’ve wanted one. I just can’t justify the cost yet…
17Very tough. Two things: 1.) I’ve seen people wearing this and had no idea what it is (I thought someone had died maybe - athletes sometimes wear something like it when someone dies… - But now I know. 2.) Student trainer. I got a trainer before my wedding specifically for weight training. Even with your healing back, there must be some weight work you could do. My student was a trainer so I paid $25 a session (and went once a week). We did weights at a school gym for an hour - the pounds fell off me. You burn so much lifting weights. Is the Bugg waterproof for swimming? Or maybe you could go to the swap section of craigslist - I’m sure there is a trainer that needs photos for their marketing/webpage - or maybe even a trainer getting married and you could swap services.
18Congrats on your new accessory!
I’d love to hear an update on this product. How do you feel about it now that you’ve been using it for awhile? How do you like their site?
