Thanksgiving 2009
I have some Thanksgiving pictures to show you, but first I’m going to tell you a story.
Once upon a time That Wife decided to get creative and make themed cake pops (learn more about cake pops here on Bakerella).
She bought most of the ingredients necessary, but skipped out on a few that were harder to find. She assumed this wouldn’t matter. She assumed wrong.
As she began to make them she realized she didn’t have brown chocolate to melt, only white. She figured this would not matter. Wrong again.
She spent hours on this project, melting (and burning) chocolate, gluing candy corns on in the shape of a turkey tail, and painting faces on her creations with her edible ink pens.
She posted a photo on Twitter. Someoen responded and said they looked like meatballs on a stick. This was a fact that could not be denied.
All the way to her cousin’s house (the Thanksgiving dinner location), she held said turkey meatball cakepops on a stick in her lap, screeching at husband whenever he accelerated, braked, or moved too quickly.
They arrived at their destination. Excitedly she unbuckled her seatbelt.
She stepped out of the car…
and they all came tumbling down.
This little guy really had a rough time of it.
We picked them up off the ground, inserted the sticks back into the styrofoam block, and set them out later for the kiddos to eat for dessert. There’s always reindeer pops for Christmas, right?
Recently my cousin and her family moved down to Dallas, exciting news because most of my family is still up in Washington and TH and I thought we would only be spending holidays with family when we were willing to pay the big bucks to fly around the country/world to see them. This cousin has 3 sons, is a photographer, and lives in a chateau/castle/oneofthemostamazinghouse’sever. We all around just really love spending time with this family. We weren’t there long because TH had work to do (the guy never gets a break, I tell ya!), so we came late and left just after I got some dessert. It was delicious and if we’re here in Dallas in the next few years I hope they will invite us back again!
My cousin-in-law carving the turkey.
TH has achilles tendonitis and has been limping for over a week now. I bought him a cane and now he’s just like Gregory House, except not addicted to vicodin or incredibly rude.
Mormons get really excited whenever we have a chance to break the sparkling cider out. It’s so fun and fizzy!
TH has been working from home a lot (remember the bum leg?), which means many days go by without shaving. We’re both starting to relax a bit more in what kind of appearance standards we hold our spouse to. You should see how bright my tights are getting lately!
After dinner, this is what the women did.
And here’s where you found the men.
My 2nd cousins had a lot of fun with TH’s cane.
The pie I made. With homemade crust. I’m so proud. (Bakerella recipe, found here)
My cousin offered to take some photos of the two of us. Thanks for dinner and the photos Jamie!
(P.S.-See what I mean about their house? And this doesn’t even show the turret. Or the Romeo & Juliet balcony.)
Poor meatball turkeys!

1Haha, you’re turkeys still look better than anything I could do! And I’m sure the children loved them
. Your pie looks amazing! I may have to try that sometime. I might be willing to make my own pie crust again if I’m not making most of Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, and Cory did the dishes

3We tried to make the cake balls. TRIED - did not succeed. You’ll see them on my blog later this week - oh, they were so bad looking. Yours are cute!
Looks like you guys had a great day.

4I think it’s cute you are comparing him to House (well without the rudeness of course).
Your cousin’s house definitely looks like a castle. And as far as the mini turkeys. Well you can practice again next year and you’ll be a pro by the time you can get your child to help, right?

Oh my goodness that made me laugh! Just remember, no matter what the state of the turkey-cake pop-meatballs are in, they still taste yummy! Just flick that little piece of grass off.

8I think your cake ball turkeys are really happy. Bakerella makes it look so easy, doesn’t she?
That is a pretty intense house! I’m kind of jealous. But I am grateful for our condo.
I’m glad that you had a great thanksgiving!

10Fun photos! I always refuse to bring my camera to family functions. I get into photographer mode so it’s not as enjoyable for me.
ps. My husband is doing the beard thing too. I forget that it’s there sometimes.

11I’m thankful for bright tights, too. And I love your snazzy shoes - way to dress up your little black dress with fun shoes!
I am impressed that you even tried Bakerella’s cake pops. I have been dreaming of making them but have no faith in my ability to deal with the candy coating!

12How did you get your hair up like that? It looks incredibly chic!

14Hey Jenna, when you talk about sparkling cider, it’s alcohol-free right? Sparkling apple juice? (I always wonder.)
Also, gotta say, I found it weird how you put a smiley after the bit about how the women did the washing up while the men relaxed. Does this really make you smile? Did the women do most/all of the cooking too? (I’m not judging, I’m just interested. As I’ve said before, you and I have so much in common, but then some things about our lives and attitudes are so different, it makes me find those differences extra fascinating because of the similarities I think.)

Yep, Martinelli’s is a very well-known brand of sparkling apple juice here in the states. Do they have it in the UK?
And I think I’ll write a post about your second question tomorrow.

You can tell your husband he is my third favorite right now. My husband is always my first favorite, then the baby is second favorite, but Mr. Wife and Blog is my current third favorite.

LOVE the meat candies!
I’m sure they tasted great, though. And your pie looks delish. So many talents you have! I’m so glad you guys got to spend the holiday with them. Always entertaining! A little typo, I think- they just have the 3 boys, unless you’re counting the husband.
