This Last Year I…

Posted by Jenna, Under Personal

On January 1st of this year I committed to do several things. Here is what I did and did not accomplish.

I DID:

Post every day.
Set up a custom domain for my blog.
Make a baby.

Make something adorable (adorable in a 5 year old kind of way?) from the Bakerella blog.

I DID NOT:

Never make my husband say I don’t pay enough attention to him (even with the daily posting).
Finish my classes (everything except my foreign language credit).
Firm up my oven before That Husband inserts the bun (i.e. lose the last 20 lbs before the baby puts it right back on again).
Call someone I care about on the telephone at least once a week.
Read one article from the Ensign each week.
Cook a Polish dish for That Husband (and get a rating higher than 3) from the new Polish cookbook we received from his Aunt for Christmas.

Am I failure because I didn’t achieve them all? I don’t think so! Without these goals I never would have been able to laugh at my ridiculousness with the Thanksgiving turkey pop disaster, might still be blogging from thatwife.wordpress.com, and might not be giggling every time my sweet baby kicks the top of my belly. I’m shooting for 10/10 in 2010 though!

  1. Hi Jenna,

I just wanted to de-lurk. I’ve been reading your blog since your weddingbee days, and recently read something that you wrote that I found so inspiring that I vowed to introduce myself on your next post!

While I am 100% Polish, and my fiances family is about 1/4 Polish, I spent Christmas Eve pinching pierogi and uszki with them for my very first time! They turned out just as good as any I’ve tasted in Poland, and were surprisingly easy! I’m sure that my FMIL wouldn’t mind sharing the recipe if you were interested.

    Thanks for commenting Agnieszka!

If the recipe uses ingredients common (and inexpensive) in the US and wasn’t too hard I would really love to have you email it to me. :) We love the cookbook that we received in Poland, but some of the ingredients are either not common here or don’t translate well so I don’t understand what they are!

  2. Way to go, Jenna! You made a HUMAN- so I think you get a pass on the rest :)

“You made a HUMAN”, I love that! Haha.

Agreed! Making a human trumps all the rest.

  3. If you accomplished everything this year you wouldn’t have anything to resolve for the new year.

  4. I totally agree. Making a baby is a huge one! And hey, at least you accomplished some which is definitely better than none :-). I don’t even remember my resolutions from last year so I doubt I accomplished them!

  5. Kudos to you! I know whenever I make resolutions, I don’t usually make it past 1 or 2. haha.

    Happy New Year!

  6. At least you made effort towards those goals right? Even in a small way. Here’s to setting and meeting the goals for next year!

  7. You’ve inspired me! I don’t usually make “resolutions” but I think this year I WILL make some goals.

  8. You’ve completed all your coursework with the exception of your foreign language credit? - That’s awesome!! It’s been a long time you’ve blogged about the nagging classes - it sounds like you’ve made great progress. Congrats on a wonderful 2009 - including lots of items not on your list like the growth of your blog and your photo business!
    Happy New Year!

Oh no no no. I wish that was the case. It is not, not at all. :(

  9. Hi Jenna!

I’m a long-time lurker too, but what better time to comment than New Year’s Eve!

You hit some pretty big milestones this year, nothing to be ashamed of that’s for sure.

All the best in what will be a very new year for you and your family!

  11. I just started my own blog and I have a new awe for your 365 days of posting. I had NO idea how much time it could take!

  12. I do not think you’re a failure. You’re so crafty you make babies!

My mother says that she lost weight easier once she was breastfeeding because of all the calories it burns, fwiw.

Glad you had a happy Christmas and many wishes for a wonderful New Year!
