Kelli Nicole is coming up tonight and we’ll be doing one (or two?) newborn shoots with her, but my mom and I couldn’t resist breaking out my camera and grabbing a few naked shots when T1 was at the 8 day old mark. T1 is so much more cooperative than TH when it comes to having his photo taken!
This one makes me laugh because he loves to devour his hands and fingers. It’s crazy cute.
Newborns have purple/red feet for the first few weeks of life.
So many faces for such a little thing.
I so wanted a baby with hair. Good work growing in my belly T1.
His umbilical cord fell off today! I’m glad to have it gone. This little white cocoon was hand made by my grandma, isn’t it sweet? I’m going to use it with Kelli as well.
I have a few videos for you as well, as soon as I can figure out the program to edit them. My goal is to convince everyone that they really DO want a baby, even after reading OMG Mom’s post about the horrors of the postpartum period.

You’re close, but I’m going to need more convincing after Mandy’s post. Or at least more convincing not to get a C-section.

A section involves way more recovery than a vaginal delivery. It’s major abdominal surgery! And way more painful and gross, just in different ways. The vagina is made to stretch and all that, but your belly is not designed to be sliced open.

I have only heard this from women who have not had C-sections. The women I know who had them heartily recommend them.
(For the record, I would not actually opt for a C-section unless it was medically necessary. But Mandy’s post did make it seem really appealing. Hopefully I’ll have forgotten everything she wrote by the time I have kids.)

From what I heard, you still have a 6-week period after birth whether you have a vaginal or c-section. Even after a c-section, your uterus is going to continue to shed, so you have the pain of recovering from surgery and a long period of bleeding. However, you don’t necessarily have vaginal soreness. Regarding the c-section peeps being in less pain, it may be due to the painkillers they are prescribed (as they just had major surgery) so they are more medicated during their recovery than with a vaginal birth. Just a guess. When I was 20 I wanted a scheduled c-section. When I was 25 I wanted a hospital with a birthing tub. And now as I near 30, and a baby is finally in the foreseeable future (though not preggers) I want a home birth.
So basically I understand wanting different things and I understand that what people want can change.

I had two c sections and the post stating all of that after yuck is still ALL TRUE. you do ALL of that and more when you have a C Section. and believe me the pain is probably MUCH worse. so if you can, avoid a C SECTION AT ALL COST!!

Oh man, your comment made me laugh out loud… mostly because I know at least 5 women who had c-sections and went to DRASTIC lengths (ex. driving an hour+ for all prenatal appts as well as the actual delivery) to find caregivers who would allow them a try at VBAC.
Also, one of my best girlfriends is in the midst of her OBGYN residency and she has pretty much affirmed the-avoid it unless you have to, then do VBAC-line of thought. And that’s from a doctor in the field.

I’d have to say that my experience has also been that every woman I’ve known who has had a section was miserable for almost two months after. It is *major* surgery, and honestly, I don’t think people treat it seriously enough. I think because it’s wrapped up in childbirth, which is “just what women do”. So you have a woman who has had major abdominal surgery finding herself home alone with a newborn two weeks into recovery. In addition, most maternity leaves are not longer than 6 weeks, which is usually bare minimum healing time for a section, and then bam, you’re back at work. Whereas if you had your stomach sliced open to pull anything other than a baby out it seems to be given the serious attention it deserves/requires.

Just to clarify, I’m not talking about *women* being cavalier, but rather the way women, as patients, are treated in relation to major abdominal surgery related to pregnancy as opposed to major abdominal surgery not related to pregnancy.

I didn’t want to add that tidbit in my comment because I was afraid I might be going overboard, but it is all too true. It is MAJOR surgery… and lets be honest, a lot of people treat it like it’s an outpatient procedure.

No way. My sister had a section and the recovery was _awful_. Recovering from major abdominal surgery at the same time as dealing with the first two weeks of a brand new baby? Not. Fun.
To be fair, she didn’t want the section. Maybe women who think they chose a section think it’s great.

I had an emergency c, after 24 hours of labor and two hours of pushing. I must say the recovery was fine, I stopped with pain killers after three days, I DID bleed vaginally like with a v-birth, but it wasn’t a horrible recovery by far. The first few days we were in the hospital were fine, the hardest thing about recovering was getting up in the middle of the night to get the baby- we have a really high bed. So I didn’t choose my c-sec, but it wasn’t a nightmare by far. Just a little bit from a person who had it.

Hoping these adorable pics and baby talk will force my ovaries to start popping out eggs! Her post just confirmed, yet again, why I want a home birth (and certainly not a c-section). When you have 6 weeks of bleeding - are you also cramping for 6 weeks like a typical period? Love the baby posts!!

I had a c-sec (emergency, not scheduled), but bled for 6 weeks, as well. When nursing the uterus contracts, and in hospital they may give you something post birth to help contracting. My uterus was back to normal (and I had a big baby) by 8 weeks post partum. I never felt the contractions and mine didn’t feel like period cramps, but maybe it’s because I had surgery? The bleeding comes and goes, heavy at first then needing just regular pads.

The 5th one down is my absolute FAVORITE! So so so adorable, all of them.
As for Mandy’s post, I think it was AWESOME at describing how it is post birth. One of the reasons I think it’s such a great post is that so much focus is put on the actual birth (as it should be) and the part she described can be a big surprise…it’s good to know about before it happens for sure. It’s nothing that should deter someone from having a baby, it’s just good to be mentally prepared.

Such cute little faces, I’m glad you’re showing us all those different fun expressions.
So are you on a mission to have us double the population of this earth?
Now I’m curious to know how and if you will be able to maintain the variety of subjects you had post baby. It seems kind of hard when you have so much cuteness and a baby that’s going to change so much over the next well weeks, month and years even. Do you think you’ll focus on baby things for now and then when baby will live you more time shift back to a variety of subjects again?

I’m actually not ready to do children and kids, as I don’t think it’s where my talent lies. Maybe after I’ve had more practice? Kristin you have a very astute eye! My mom actually shyed away from the third shot because she felt like he looked so much like my brother Drake and it was too bittersweet for her to look at.
I’m not sure I think he looks like either of us, although I see a bit of TH in the bottom half of his face. I’ve always been a bit skeptical when it comes to the “baby looks like one/both of you!” comments as I think babies tend to look like babies
I do spend a lot of time staring at him wondering how his face will change and develop over time though. TH was a ridiculously cute toddler so I think T1 has a good chance of being the same!

I tend to agree. Babies look like babies. And perhaps that’s why I saw the resemblance. I’m sure it is bittersweet. But also a blessing, that there is a little part of your brother in T1.
Whoever he grows to look like, ya’ll have some good looking genes. He’ll be a heart-breaker no matter what!

He is so precious. The hand on his face with his mouth open - and then lips pursed, too - is just too much. I could eat him up!
I think babies look like babies, too, but I also like to look for their parents’ - and other relatives’ -attributes in their faces. They can change drastically within just a year and go from looking just like one parent to looking just like the other, but I think that’s (part of) what makes me so fascinated. And I swear, Jenna, sometimes he looks just like you and sometimes he looks just like TH.
