I met up with Catie Ronquillo for lunch last week and brought T1 along because I like showing him off whenever I can.
The hostess offered a high chair, and I thought we’d give it a try (I had brought in the Moby but it is pretty hard to eat while wearing him, I’m always dropping stuff on his head).
He is not ready for high chairs yet.
The best part about having lunch with a fellow photographer? You can hand your camera over and expect some great pictures!
I’m trying to force encourage him to look into the light. As TH is always saying to me half-jokingly, “It’s all about the pictures!”
Still rockin’ those baby blues!
Yay! More pictures of the two of us!
T1 also had his first encounter with a dog. We dropped him off at a friend’s house while we went to the temple, and were told that Lolita (the dog) gave T1 lots of kisses. Good! There is a (very small) body of evidence that suggests that pet exposure can help ward off allergies in children.
By the time we got back he seemed done with the whole dog thing.
(The temple was amazing though! New chandelier in the Celestial room that I stared at for several minutes with my mouth hanging open in awe. If you haven’t seen it yet you should go.)

I love how he’s always got his tongue out. Is T1 not allowed in the temple yet? Or you just needed some alone time with TH?

The youngest someone can enter the temple is at age 12. It’s a really quiet sacred place where you make serious covenants with God, so younger children aren’t really ready to go inside. He’ll have the chance to visit when he’s older!

I love the one where you’re kissing him & he’s got his tongue out like “aw mom, more kisses?!!” What a cutie pie!

I like to think that even if early exposure doesn’t help with allergies, it helps kids to be less afraid of dogs. Maybe?
At any rate, I’m with Britt. That kid’s tongue is hysterical!

I like to think this too. We’ve had our dog around DD since she was 1 day old and she loves dogs. Actually loves is a bit of an understatement, she stalks the poor things.

I light the bright blues! I’ve also read that the reason kids have so many allergies now-a-days is because they aren’t introduced to allergens until later in life, and their immune system can’t adapt.

Hygeine Hypothesis!!!!!! I’m basically obsessed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygiene_hypothesis
I wish someone would write a book on raising kids as a believer in the HH.

I didn’t know all that! Lol, sometimes I feel like sending me to wikipedia is like giving feeding my addiction! Too… much… knowledge!
I learned about it in reading an article about how the number of kids with peanut allergies has increased exponentially in the last few years, mostly because parents are waiting so long to give it to their kids, and that having a severe reactions to peanuts is as likely as being struck by lightening. Don’t quote me though. I wish I could find it again.
What I REALLY want explained is why, after not having any type of allergies my whole life, I became allergic to most fruits at like… 19. Life is weird. lol.(sorry for the length).

I was interested to see you mention the hygiene hypothesis. As a microbiology and immunology graduate it was one of the theories we studied. I definitely think it has merit, but I think the wikipedia article talks about some things which are very speculative. If you like I could find you some recent scientific journal reviews about it.
As far as raising children goes, all I would do is not be too worried about being clean (as it sounds like you are) and avoid “antimicrobial” cleaners, soaps and wipes. Normal soap is just as good for handwashing etc (and not only do you not want to kill off all the bacteria but using antimicrobial products assists in the development of resistance).
Really there are so many bacteria around us, when you start to study them you stop worrying about them as you realise how many there are and how rarely you get a bacterial infection!

I love the dog’s expression in the photo - like “wait, you’re taking away the baby? We were just starting to be friends!”

My husband says similar things about taking pictures of her daughter..Sometimes I think he gets jealous and tries to jump in the way of them.

Ditto everyone who commented on his tounge.
I think I could spend hours putting captions under pictures of cute babies funny expressions. I’m so glad that you put up so many photos! I know your family is going to be SO GLAD that you were so devoted to journaling these everyday experiences someday. It is such a gift you are creating for them, to get to know their mother when she was in her twenties.

I think animals need kids and kids need animals
. The bond between my pets and me as a kid was much needed for this only child! Also, as someone who holds a biology degree as well as a nursing degree (and I work as a nurse) I wholeheartedly agree with HH.

We used to take Will to restaurants with the Bumbo…it was kinda funny to carry it into the restaurant but he couldn’t sit in the highchair yet but we just put him next to us in a booth in the bumbo and it was perfect! And he was so happy. Good luck in Chicago! That apartment looked freaking amazing.

Awwww, what amazing pics of you and your little cutie!
Thanks so much for meeting up with Court and me last night. Can’t wait to try all the fun things I learned, and I’ll be sure to send you some of my shots once the lessons have had time to sink in. Thanks again and best of luck on your new adventures in Chicago!
