Should I?
Should I fix my hair before Europe?
Here is what it looked like right after it was done. It was very warm and had lots of red in it, which I don’t like.
After a few weeks, it’s a bit lighter but the lights spots are still just as noticeable.
(Also, this is my I’m-trying-to-pass-bedhead-off-as-something-other-than-bedhead look. My hair is only curly like this if I wear it in a wet bun the day before.)
A few weeks ago:
Today:
Grunty wove his fingers in my hair and made a nice mess right before I took this photo. Long hair with a baby is tough.
I plan on taking a LOT of pictures in Europe, and being in a lot of them as well, so I’m stumped about what to do. I like my hair color a bit lighter and cooler, like it is now, but my almost ombre (but not quite) do just isn’t cool.
On another note, remember that time when I cut my wispies off? That piece hanging in front of my eye in this photo is the wispies that grew back! I’m tempted to get some bangs because that stupid hair is always hanging down around my eyes.
I think some nice bangs would look super cute on you!

I think the bangs would look fabulous too!

I’ve heard that the sort of two-tone look (lighter ends) is very in with celebs lately, and I honestly don’t think your hair looks spotty, I think the color is fine. Have you ever had layers? I think if you cut like, 3-4 inches off the length, and got some long layers (and maybe some long sweeping bangs?) your hair would look great!

2I do think you should try bangs - some thicker, side swept, that can also be pinned back/tucked back easily would look good on you I think! And if they aren’t too high-maintence and you decide you don’t like them, just don’t accentuate them until they’ve grown out again. (don’t know if that made sense…)
As for the hair color….I don’t know! I like the warmer colors in fall, but I think I do like it a bit lighter. As for the pro/not pro issue, I struggle with that all the time! You know that (usually) a good stylist, even if it costs more than you like, is worth it. But I do really dislike shelling out all that money all the time. Lately, my plan has been to visit this more expensive stylist in Phoenix when I visit - with him I try different things, things that could be more complicated. Then at home here in CA, I go to a lady that’s not quite as expensive for more maintence - type stuff from that original look: trims, touch-ups, etc. Working so far.
Are there any hair stylists in your ward? Someone willing to trade services? You take pictures for her, she does your hair? Or you babysit for her a certain number of times? Just a quick thought!

31. Definitely go to a pro to get your hair done. You’ll feel great in Europe.
2. Try parting your hair slightly differently so the wispies don’t get in the way. That’s what I do.

4I like what Katy said about bangs. I don’t think your color is terrible, but if you do decide to do color, definitely get it done professionally. It’s just too long to try to do again yourself.
Personally I don’t really like your “curly” look. To me it just looks like it needs to be brushed. Your hair reminds me of mine when I attempt to wear it curly when I’m staying home. I always hope it will actually look curly, and it almost never does.
I think your hair is gorgeous and healthy looking when you have it straight and smooth.
Good luck!

5I think you would look great with sideswept bangs. That said, (and I’m sure you’ve considered this), bangs are a big commitment when you have such long hair as you do. If you decide they aren’t for you, it can be awhile before they can be blended back into your hair, which can be frustrating. On the other hand, they’re a great way to change things up for a long haired girl. I’ve done it myself, and it was fun.
You’ll be so glad if you go to a pro for color because you won’t look back at the photos and criticize your own hair ;o)

6Bangs and pro!

7I think sideswept bangs would be cute, and I also think that now that you know how to do the at home dye, you could totally do it with TH’s help and have it be just fine. Good luck!

82 Things!
Though in colder weather, it’s probably not a problem. I think they’d look very nice on you, though!
I don’t feel like I can vote, because I wanted to say it depends. When I went to Europe, I desperately needed a hair cut, but waited because we wanted to save our money for food over there. I brought my straightening iron and NEVER USED IT. I had my hair up the entire time, because it was either raining or windy.
If you plan on wearing your hair down a lot, then I think you should fix it. If not, then don’t bother.
Also, I have had bangs for a couple of years now and one thing to consider is that they make your forehead really oily. Im having a problem with that right now

9Here’s the thing, what matters most is how you feel about it. If you feel like you look like a cute celeb, then you’ll pull it off. But I’m reading you as feeling like it’s not that great and so you’d probably feel better about yourself if you invested in a trip to a pro!

10Since I’ve seen you in bangs before I can say that I think you look good with them. So I’d say go for it!

11I say get it done how you want it done before Europe! Those pictures might be on your wall for a lifetime

12I think you should cut it shorter and dye it, but no bangs!

13Have you thought about chopping a few inches off? It might be easier to take care (less time to dry, etc) and if you get it cut right, perhaps the self-dye job won’t be so noticeable. Personally, from the pictures you’ve shown it doesn’t look all that bad.
But I think since you’ve mentioned it at least twice now that it probably means you are a bit self-conscious about it, which means you probably don’t feel at your best, which in turn is never fun. 9 times out of 10 we are our own worst critics (well, ok, 7 times out of 10: the blogging world is full of critics and their opinions). My point is that since you’ve taken the time to blog about it then you should probably do whatever you think it will take you to feel comfortable and beauuuutiful again

14Also, the pic of you in the black dress (long top?) is smashing. I don’t know if it’s this one photograph, but you look good in dark colors. Your eyes really pop, whereas in the photo with the pink top I’m not immediately drawn to your eyes.
Ok, hope this comment didn’t freak you out or anything. Just an observation!

15I’d cut just a few inches off, get a professional dye job, and get sideswept bangs!
PS…your face looks skinnier! Go you!

Me too! I think a few inches off would give more of a style and would be super flattering!

I love the idea of wispy side bangs for some fun! I also don’t think the two color look is very noticeable unless you’re looking for it. I couldn’t see it at all in the front view picture. But go with whatever makes you comfortable the most, you want to enjoy your pictures not look back with regrets at them months & years later.

17Bangs will look great, I think!

18I honestly don’t think you hair looks horrible right now. If you wouldn’t of pointed it out, I may not have even noticed the color. I do think you would look good with bangs to help your baby hairs blend in. I totally understand you though; my baby hairs are just blending in with my bangs.

19I definitely think bangs would suit you! You can always pin them up too, which looks cute.
I don’t mind the colour as it is now - but if you get it professionally coloured, they’d probably give you a treatment too, which would rejuvinate your hair before you’re off on your travels - always a nice thing!

20I think your long hair is great, but it makes it harder to diy dye it. I agree that bangs would be nice, very flattering for you.

21I think you should go ahead and get it dyed professionally! My friend is a hair stylist, and she always dyes my hair (my hair is long, but not nearly as long as yours!). She uses a demi hair dye on me. It’s not as harsh as a permanent, it fades with time, and it’s actually somewhat good for your hair.
Also, I think side swept bangs would look great

22Here are my 2 cents: professional color job, cut 2-3 inches off the bottom, cut in some long, well-blended layers, and long-ish side-swept bangs. A good cut, although it may cost you a few $$, will be SO much easier to manage. Same thing with a good dye job. Can’t wait to see the results of whatever you end up doing!

23hair is just one of those things (esp before you are going to document a fun trip!) that you should not skimp on. Find a cute, inexpensive salon and have them fix it. I try to be fiscally responsible for the most part but have learned this is something I won’t cut out, I just go when it needs it/I can afford it. Try two colors (I do a blond highlight and a golden brown highlight), it grows out a lot better when it doesn’t match your natural color exactly. good luck, can’t wait to see the pics!

24Nothing to do with the hair, but although you look more tired your face looks a lot thiner in the newer picture than the one with the nice hair.

25Hi Jenna - I’ve been lurkin here for a while…but perhaps I could share some semi-prof advice as a first post.
My man is in school right now to become a hairstylist - given your situation, a nice cut and color would be a nice way to treat yourself before you head to Europe to spend time with TH’s family. Some layers, swoopy sideswept bangs, trimmed up 3inches or so and dyed your natural color. Keep it simple so you can enjoy your time and feel FABULOUS.

26don’t think your hair’s a disaster and it’ll definitely grow out fine, but i like you a touch blonder…
i say go to a salon and get the color done. you’ll feel happier on your trip and really? life’s too short to feel self-conscious if it’s easily fixed.
re: bangs, i think a low-maintenance, long sideswept look would be fab on you. did you lose any front hairs postpartum? (I DID.) if so, it’ll start growing back soon with weird sticking-up-straightness. i hear long, side bangs reduce the awkwardness of that, too…

27To be honest… I’m really digging the long hair right now. I grew my hair out for two years for my wedding, and then… a month after my wedding I cut it all off. Now I have serious hair envy.
The thing to consider when dyeing your hair is… will your hair be down? When I’m traveling I tend to pull it back out of my face, and it would definitely be back with babies around. If it’s going to be in a pony tail, or even tucked behind your shoulders… it won’t really matter.

28I think you should get it dyed by a pro, especially if you’ll be attending your sister-in-law’s wedding!
If you had curly hair, the color mix might be more forgiving and unnoticeable, but with your pin straight hair it stands out too much, in my opinion.
But do what is best for you!

29Mmm.. this may be just my opinion, but on my own head, darker at the roots = greasy/need to wash, so that’s what I tend to think of it on other people’s heads. I’d like it either a smoother color (the transition from dark to light is a bit jarring) or lighter all together. Also, I think you would look awesome with bangs. I wish I could do bangs but my hair is curly, tending toward ringlets and that looks really old-fashioned and juvenile in bangs.

30Anytime you anticipate a lot of pictures is a good time to get your hair done. If you don’t want to spend money on a pro find a friend (preferably who has done it before) to help you out. I never pay to get my hair dyed but i don’t do it alone because I’m not that skilled.
