TH’s passport came yesterday, and we bought our tickets last night. I’m currently working on securing a baby bed for the flight over the Atlantic (we are flying Lufthansa) and trying to decide where we should go for our baby-free time. Someone yesterday suggested Austria and I’m very tempted to go there, but Prague sounds nice as well. TH is tired of all the drama and kind of wants to just chill in Poland. If only we had the money to hire a travel agent who could take care of all of this for us!
Thanks for all of your well wishes while we were waiting. You’re going to be bombarded with hundreds of pictures when I get back!

I hear Budapest, Hungary is beautiful. Prague gets great reviews as well.
I’m headed to Romania next summer and hear it is beautiful as well. But I’m partial since my husband and parents are from there.

Austria!! Go to Salzburg and/or Vienna. You can do as much or as little as you like there- go to see a concert at the Opera house, eat pastries and drink hot cocoa. Beautiful scenery in the Alps. fabulous people. Without a doubt, one of my favorite places in Europe.

I’d say stay in Poland! It’s so beautiful and so full of history… You could go to several different cities or parts of the country. I’ve been to Warsaw as well as Krakow - and they’re so different and so utterly wonderful in their own ways.
But Prague is lovely too. A bit touristy in my opinion, but has some beautiful museums and scenic views. Karlovy Vary is a gorgeous spa town to the west - absolutely charming for a day trip from Prague.
Or you could go to Germany!! Berlin is one of my favorite cities in the whole world - there is so much to see, an incredible array of restaurants, and the public transportation is super easy to use.
Wherever you choose, you can’t lose. Looking forward to all the photos! I hope you guys have a wonderful time!

That’s so wonderful! I can imagine how relieved you must feel. Well, I’m pretty bias, but I love Germany in the Black Forest area. My grandparents live really close to the border of the country, so we like going to Switzerland when we visit. Austria is really nice too. Do me a favor and go to one of the many bakeries and eat something sinful for me. I wish we had bakeries around here like they do there. Heaven and bliss all wrapped up in a pastry shop.

Yay!!! So happy for yall!!! As someone who has traveled to both Prague and Vienna…go the Prague route. Gorgeous! Whereever you go, even just a nice hotel in Poland away from T1 for a few days you’ll have a great trip!!

I have been to Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. For what you’re doing, you will get the most out of that trip. It’s so so so so pretty. Cobblestones, ancient bars underground, murals. Vienna is too stately and big. My Budapest trip was too long ago to be valid, but it was still showing the effects of the long Soviet occupation. More so than Prague, IMO.

OMG I just have to say… I went to Vienna last year and LOVED it! Austria is so pretty and there’s plenty to do, and they have the cutest street markets!! And the best public transportation system I’ve ever travelled on. Austria wins over Germany BY FAR.

When I went to Europe, I thought Italy would be my favorite, followed by Switzerland. I was SO WRONG. Austria is by far my favorite! Especially Salzburg!!! If you go, you will not regret it. And do the Sound of Music tour if you do go there, for me. I wanted to do it sooooo bad but we weren’t there long enough. Have fun on your trip!

My boyfriend and I flew Lufthansa from Dallas to Italy (layover in Germany) and it is a WONDERFUL airline. Spacious and clean, even in coach.

We had a travel agent for our honeymoon, and it only cost us $50. I think that’s a decent price to have a professional do it…especially abroad, with a set budget, and set amount of time you need to travel in! You should at least look on Yelp Chicago to see if you can find a local travel agent (that’s how we found ours)…it might be a cheaper option than you think! my husband adored Prague when he went three years. It gets my vote!
I know it all seems overwhelming with just a few weeks before you leave, but I would just book a hotel for a few nights so its settled and then do your research gradually (the easiest and most comprehensive travel help for us was Rick Steves)

AUSTRIA AUSTRIA!! I am biased, having lived there. I didn’t find Prague to be worth all the hype. Budapest is much cooler if you are looking for that old-world feel. But Vienna is one of the greatest cities in the world.

Yay! I’m glad it came. Wherever you end up will be lovely, I’m sure. If you just want to chill, Luxembourg is pretty cool. We stayed there incredibly cheaply, too, but there isn’t a lot to see compared with Austria or Prague (neither of which I’ve actually visited). Bruges in Belgium is lovely as well.

As for the travel agent you might reconsider. I used one for our honeymoon and it didn’t cost us a dime-they are paid directly by the services we book with. She assured me there is no mark up in price for what we did. My in-laws use this company all the time for their European trips and we used for Fiji. They are based in Orange County, CA but I would guess with a job like that you can serve anyone in the US. If you are interested let me know-I was pleased as punch!

Austria offers a lot of active options, while Prague is more touristy shopping/buildings ect. I loved both, but found Austria more physically engaging (skiing, salt mines, walking tours) while Prague is more self-guided, seeing sights, shopping (not that you can’t do guided tours).
Yeah for husbands and passports!!!!!
