Inside Out Apple Crisp

Posted by Jenna, Under Cooking

Am I awesome or awful for posting this the day after I tell you I’m launching a weight loss challenge? Awesome for those of you who are NOT joining my challenge, pretty dang sucky for those who are.

It’s okay to treat yourself sometimes though, so even if you’re trying to lose weight with me, maybe you can give this a try on Valentine’s Day or something?

I’m not going to repost the recipe because I think the respective blog authors deserve the traffic, but this Inside Out Apple Crisp drizzled with caramel sauce ranks as one of my favorite desserts, ever. The apple smells delicious as it bakes, the presentation is beautiful when you have guests, and the contrast of the tart of the apple with the crunchy sweetness of the oat mixture is really lovely. You get to feel good about yourself for eating some fruit (I ate the skin and everything both times I prepared this) and a little bit of oats as well. Go ahead and ignore the fact that you’re chowing down on a fair amount of butter, sugar, and heavy cream as well. :) My advice? Be really, really generous with the caramel. Your guests (and your taste buds) will thank you.

That picture is awesome! Did you use a lightbox?

No, we have this strip of lights under the cupboards in the kitchen. It works okay but I would love to have something that looks a bit more natural!

  5. this looks really tasty. And even if you are losing weight, it really is okay to have a treat. If you deprive yourself completely, you will want it even more. That ends up destroying all you try to accomplish.

Also, did you use the pumpkin spice? Would it make much of a difference without it?

    Jenna Reply:

I think cinnamon would work just fine. I used both apple pie spice and cinnamon
