Fashionably Modest (Thrifted): Winter Pink
I received several compliments on this outfit when I wore it to church on Sunday, I think because we’re hitting the point in the year where everyone is a bit tired of black/gray/brown/blue combinations. I love that my creamy sweater is warm enough that I can wear it without a coat (as long as I’m not spending long periods of time outside of course!)
This is how the combination looked when I wore it to church. I had thought about wearing a belt over the sweater to bring the waist in, but I just didn’t feel like it. The outfit as a whole made me feel very sweet and girly.
We were headed to dinner at someone’s house that evening and I was thinking about wearing it like this. I knew I would get food all over my sweater so I was going to have to take it off. It would look so boxy though!
Instead of putting the belt over the sweater I put it over the shirt! So much better.
It was slightly awkward to manage because there are no belt loops on the dress, so I had to work to keep it from riding up too high or too low. I’m willing to work through a little bit of awkwardness to feel pretty though.
T1 was cheering me on from the sidelines. He said he really liked my combination!
Cream sweater – $5
Cream long sleeved top – $4
Belt-$2
Pink skirt-$3
Pearl earrings and necklace-wedding gifts from TH and my parents
Shoes – $5.50Total Cost of My Thrifted Items: $19.50
Dana asked me to come up with an outfit made up of 5 items under $50 and I had a lot of fun browsing the internet looking at new items to buy! This thrift store commitment is a fun challenge, but I look forward to hitting 150 lbs so I can buy new if I’d like. Visit Fashion Under $100 to see what I came up with!
I am totally jealous of your thrifted outfits! And your bangs look cute - I always have a love/hate relationship with bangs myself
1Love the pink! I especially like it belted at the end. It’s a great colour on you!
2I really like the tucked-in shirt and belt combo!
3I almost never comment, but I just wanted to say that I love your hair like that - it’s so cute!
4I am SO inspired by your use of belts. I have one somewhere. I should bust it out and see if it works for me.
5Love the belted look on you! Great choice to wear bright colors in the winter… people should do it more often!
6I love this with the belt! But I was also thinking that sweater looks like the perfect thing to keep you warm all through church. Our RS room is really cold and I think a sweater like that would be a great way to stay warm and still look cute.
7Oooooo. I like this! Totally jealous of your great finds.
8Super cute! Especially with the belt. Love it!
9This looks awesome. That pink is a great color. One question that’s not a criticism: can you wear the skirt any shorter? I think getting it hemmed just a few inches would be even more flattering than it already is. If not, no biggie- it is a fabulous look esp with those shoes.

I could, but I like it long because then I don’t have to be tugging at it when I sit. Church involves a lot of sitting, and women tend to like to cross their legs, and when I do so it exposes more of my thigh, which in turn exposes my underthings.
I realize for a short person anything that cuts you off below the knee is not the best idea. I guess it’s about trying to blend my lifestyle with fashion

I was thinking the same thing! I think an inch or two might make the proportion really just PERFECT on you, but no biggie. I love love love that last belted look. The high waist is super flattering!
Amazing what you can do with thrifted items!
11Gorgeous outfit! You have a great sense of what works on you. Love the pink skirt, very elegant.
12Love this! I love very girly outfits. Oh how I wished I could go thrift shopping with you. Fashion and clothes is one of my passions and how fun is it to find a cute outfit for such a great deal?!

Let’s go thrifting when I move back to Dallas! I hope you will still live there when that happens
This look is adorable! And I love the pink skirt. I want one too.
14I have 6 belts that I used to cinch dresses and shirts and I love the way it looks. My favorites are the last few pictures- tucked in and belted. That pink is such a great color too. It’s warm without being super bright. The shoes are also really nice with it. I’m so glad you found a good thrift store, it makes all the difference! There are three in town that we love, that are actually cheap- $2 shirts, $3 skirts, etc.- and it’s nice to know that if we need something we can go there first.
15You are bursting with springtime in your skirt! I thought of easter & tulips when I saw this!
Agree with the other commenters that the belt on the shirt looks great - good eye!
16I think your outfit is super cute! I also really love the pink skirt and let’s not talk about how much I like your shoes.
I’m really impressed with all the things you’ve found in thrift stores - I honestly don’t think that I have the patience to spend hours looking through racks with stuff that most likely won’t fit me because of my height.
17Love this on you. You probably don’t watch MadMen but this makes you look like one of the ladies on the show!

Agree! Very Joan Holloway!
It is amazing the difference the belt makes. It is so figure-flattering and accentuates your curves while still remaining modest. Pretty cool such a simple (and inexpensive) accessory can bring new life to an outfit. Good call!
19the tucked in skirt plus belt is a great look for you! I often do that over a skirt (without belt loops) and have figured out how to discreetly adjust.
20great color, too!
Great look on you! I like the white, but am thinking that a nice tan or dark brown top would look great as well. I think you had a tan shirt in another post that would look great with that skirt.
Would you mind elaborating on keeping the belt in place? Were you constantly adjusting or did you use a safety pin or something to secure it?
21You totally rocked that outfit, Jenna! It looks so good with the top tucked in and belted. Nice work!
22Amazing! You are so beautiful and I love the outfit! When I’ve gone thrifting in the past, I always feel like I can’t find anything more current than 1992 (especially since I’m a little fluffy in size), but these new posts are inspirational to me. I may need to discover some new thrift spots in Dallas/Fort Worth.
23Love the pic of you and T1. Precious! And I love the belted look!
24Another win! You (and the clothing) look great.
25Love love love that last picture of you!!! Can you can your little family possibly get any cuter?!?
26Could you please please pretty please do a “Belts for Dummies” post? Because I never, ever ever wear a belt and I love what it is doing on you for the, ahem “mommy tummy” (I have one too!). I have no idea where to start.
27Love the outfit and the fact that it is really feminine without showing everything
I also love that you take pictures with T1 all the time…great memories!
28I rarely comment but just have to say that your hair looks FAB in these photos. The haircut is really working for you.
29The belt really brings the whole outfit together. You look great!
30Sooo, sooo cute. You look beautiful. I also admire your photography. It is really inspiring.
31I LOVE this outfit with the belt! So adorable! Now I want to go thrift store shopping - it’s been too long since I’ve gone!
32Jenna, the shirt tucked in and belted looks FABULOUS on you. You look so much skinnier!
I grew up thinking that tucking in stuff would make you look bigger, but I recently found that it’s the exact opposite, now I tuck in EVERYTHING. I love how it emphasizes your waist, whereas in the first two pictures your sweater/shirt just swallowed the waist up.
33you look adorable hun.
34Without the sweater is much more thinning. I forget the name of the book that helps a person figure out what colors look best-I think it’s Color Me Beautiful. I think you look best in the clear colors. The white and hot pink are great. Beige/olives/muddy colors/autumn are not as flattering IMHO.
35Lovely skirt! I like the last combo best (shirt tucked in without the sweater). It is very “Mad Men” and really flattering to your figure!!
