A Vintage Poster (or 4!) For Me

Posted by Jenna, Under Uncategorized

Yesterday I opened up a sweet little package from A Vintage Poster. I loved what I found inside, but this is one of those times when the packaging is just as fun as the products inside!

That is my address. With no apartment number (and a doorman) I’m okay sharing it with you.

This little note on the side is my favorite part. I felt really fancy when I picked it up from the valet downstairs.

One of the posters will be hung on T1′s “wall” in the office. Yes, elephants are my stuffed animal/cartoon/childhood art animal of choice. It started when I used this card to write my ring ceremony vows in on our wedding day.

I picked up that shelf for free at a little swap our church had, but per my usual way of doing things, I have yet to sand it down and repaint it.

I also found two kitchenaid posters, and a happy thoughts one inside. (The other kitchenaid poster is blue and it’s tucked behind the yellow one in the plastic.) I might put the Think Happy Thoughts one in our bedroom, or maybe on the wall of my office, and put the two kitchenaid posters side-by-side in that spot. Remember my old ugly self-designed header on That Wife wordpress blog? Kitchenaids are the epitome of domesticity in my mind.

This was actually my test shot, so the focus is icky, but I love little T1 crawling toward me in the background so I kept it. Also, someday I want a kitchen with natural light. I hate you tungsten lighting!

Now to get some frames. Or should I just take them out of the plastic and tape them right to the wall? I would certainly save some money that way…

Oh! And for all of those who keep asking if another apartment tour is forthcoming. I still need to finish T1′s wall (I bought some frames at Michaels that I want to paint and put some photos in), and then I need to have each room clean enough that I feel comfortable photographing it. That is the part that’s going to take me a long time. :) But it will come, I guarantee it, because I think you’re really going to like how the living/dining room came together with the Bien Living Design suggestions I implemented!

A Vintage Poster is a sponsor of That Wife and sent me these posters gratis. They did not, however, ask me to write a positive review about them. I did that on my own because they make me so happy.

  3. Get frames for sure! Ikea has uber cheap frames. So do thrift stores. Much classier than tape and the prints will be protected that way:)

  4. Oh, that packaging, I love it!

a note about IKEA frames… they are never the right size for the image! It is totally annoying, our print sizes and Sweden’s print sizes are just different.

  5. oooo! I almost feel bad saying it, but the packaging is my favorite part (the posters are awesome, too, though!)!!! If I were you, I’d cut that out and frame it/keep it somehow especially since you don’t plan to live in Chicago forever-such a pretty way to remember your awesome apartment in Chicago!!

  6. Definitely frame them! I feel like frames add even more interest to an already-cool piece of art. I second the PP’s suggestion to check out a thrift store for cool frames. Target works, too, of course!

  8. I’d definitely do frames (or rather, I’d do those frameless frames, haha) and I’ll tell you why.

Remember in Cheap when she wrote about how if people know something is inexpensive, they tend to treat it less carefully, thus causing it to fall apart sooner? I think that’s what would happen if you just tape them up on the wall. If you really enjoy them and want them to last, especially the ones in the kitchen, you’ll want to protect them from the elements.

Do you know if A Vintage Poster does a bright red Kitchenaid poster?

I think she can do pretty much any color you can think of.

  9. Definitely frame them - otherwise it looks a little university dorm roomish :) The frames make a huge difference in keeping everything looking clean and tailored.

You can buy frames and pre-cut mattes (in standard sizes) at Michael’s. If they don’t have the size matte you need, they will usually cut it for you for a small fee.

  10. Definitely frame them. Even if you only get cheapo poster frames, you’ll protect the posters in case you want to use them in your next place.

  11. Also, Jenna (or anyone else who sees this!)
On my blog today I was really wondering about differences between WordPress and Blogger.
If you could share any thoughts on it, I would really really appreciate it!!

  13. Frame them! I have a tendency to just tape or pin things to the wall but my husband likes framing them. I’m always so much happier with the poster/photo/art when it’s framed properly. And that address label? To die for. Great idea to hold onto it.

  15. Great packaging indeed, that’s a keeper.

As everyone else above said: frame it. It makes it look cheap without a frame and that’s not what those deserve.

  16. I heard you mention possibly moving back to WA for the summer. Are you keeping the same Chicago apt. for the fall? Just curious as I know you’ve put some “work” into making the apartment homey!

  19. Those are great. I second the tungsten light hatred. It may be worth your while to spend the money to change the bulbs if you will be there for very long. I literally cannot live with awful lighting like that but maybe it won’t bother you as much since you have great windows.

I would frame them :) Definitely DON’T just tape them to the wall! If you want an inexpensive solution, I love the way pictures hang from binder clips on a slim nail. I think it gives the space an trendy vibe & costs next to nothing. I think Gloss maybe did this in her house?

I would put one on each side of the picture, but here is an example of one with a single clip in the middle:
