I had this awesome idea to make Wordles for all of the survey questions you answered 6 months ago, which turned out to be a whole lot of work, and not a very accurate representation of the spread. If you’d like to see the compelte set of data, visit this post and click on “view results” at the bottom of each poll question. There were a lot of other categories that people selected for some of the questions, but not a large enough percentage of answers for Wordle to show it. Just wanted to let readers like my European friends know why they aren’t listed under location, or why those who might be Buddhist or Muslim know why they aren’t represented.
Sorry about the iffy quality on some of these. It was a nice idea, right?

Too fun!
Were you surprised by any of the responses?

That so few men read (like two responded) and that people who identify as democrat make up the majority.

So interesting to read about the fellow readers. I suspected that “Educators” were heavily represented in your followers, because there are often lots of people prefacing their comments with “As an elementary school teacher..” etc. Also interesing that there are so many readers from the northeast. I wonder what drives that?
Does anyone know of other big blogs that post their readership survey results? I’d be curious to compare/contrast other blogs of a similar genre.

I was confused by the Education results so went back to the original post (slow morning over here, people). In case others had a hard time interpreting the Wordle, the results were:
College Graduate 50.95% (564 votes)
Post-college Degree 33.06% (366 votes)
Some College 14.09% (156 votes)
High School Graduate 1.9% (21 votes)

I like the visuals even if they didn’t turn out to be completely accurate. It sounds like I fit in pretty well with the largest groups too. Interesting.

I would never have guessed so many people would list themselves as Democrats. As a Democrat among a group of Republican friends, I forgot what’s it’s like to be in the majority! And I fit nearly every category of your average reader

I also like the visual results, it’s more fun.

Jenna, I have been looking for that post you did where you asked your readers to tell a few things about themselves and then link to their blogs…I am looking for a few more blogs to follow. Can you please point me in the right direction?

Yes, I was surprised that the majority of your readers are Democrats too! And I’m quite in the minority with having two kids - it’s like I’ve got veteran status in the mom department.
I thought having at least 1 kid was the norm ‘around here’, but that would definatly explain why your baby/pregnancy posts are popular - lots of people curious for the future.
Very interesting results!

Interesting! I thought that a) you’d have more moms reading, b) more LDS than other religions (though it probably is more represented here than in the general public) and c) more republicans. Though I don’t really know why I thought the last one. Having more democrats does correlate with the age/education that you listed as most common, so I guess it makes sense.

Not quite average, but close! Change the location, income, political affiliation, and I’m not in education. It was really fun seeing those results, though.

The nerd in me is really interested in what a comparison between location and income would be and driving that further into a standard of living comparison. I can guarantee that my salary in the South is vastly different from someone with the same standard of living in the Northeast or the West Coast would be.
Thanks for sharing all of these!

Jenna - I think this says a lot about your ability to share opinions and grow as a person. I’m in line with most of your readers (excluding a few things like income, profession, religion) and although you and I differ in many, many ways, I keep coming back because I am curious to hear what you think and well, I just like you. In particular, I love people with fight and passion.
From a religion standpoint, I think people just like hearing about other religions (not, because we are still looking, as you previously mentioned, but because we think it is interesting and expands our world view). From a politics standpoint, you don’t frequently touch on your political views (though that may change tomorrow?) but I would expect you to have thought through your positions with the same amount of research and thoughtfulness you give everything else in your life (which frankly, as I biased democrat, would lead me to believe you are more liberal in some areas than I might have expected).
Thanks for sharing this info… super interesting.

I was a little confused about the religion question… Wasn’t sure whether to go Protestant or Christian. Also, Catholics and LDS could also self-identify as Christian, right? maybe it was your intention to leave it sort of open….

I’ve pared down my blog reading/commenting a lot since I’m trying to finish my thesis, but otherwise I fit every other category!
Well, the geography one confused me: I said northeast because, as I recall, there wasn’t a “Midwest” option. Chicago isn’t the northeast, right?
