Fashionably Modest (Thrifted): Winter Yellow
This outfit was actually worn back in February, and I need to get this post up before I outgrow (oh wait, I mean outSHRINK!) all of these pieces. I plan to wear a variation of this to church on Sunday (maybe without the jacket though because it’s starting to warm up in Chicago finally).
Yellow jacket (thrifted) – $5
Cream tank, Shade – $10
Tan skirt (thrifted)-$4
Yellow heels, Yoox (my wedding heels!)-$65
Jewelry-All from Poland, gifts from TH’s familyTotal Cost of The Items I Purchased: $84
Total Cost of Thrifted Items: $9
Showing off my Polish jewelry. The necklace was purchased in the Krakow market using money gifted to me by my in-laws, and the ring is a gift from my aunt-in-law. My husband’s family really does spoil me!
I love this series. T1 is getting more familiar with the camera over time but when I took these he was so confused.
T1 has some thrifted items on too! His white shirt and cute little argyle sweater were like $3 each.
My sister is losing weight as well, and has been sending me pictures of items she said she will loan me. I’m hoping the same thing will happen with my mom too, as all three of us are working to lose weight, and those two happen to be fabulous and fashionable when it comes to taste in clothing. At this rate I won’t even need to go back to my favorite thrift store to stock up on new clothes. I’ll hit sub-150 lbs and finally I’ll be able to build a wardrobe of pieces that I love and plan on keeping for a long, long time.
Cute! Love the yellow, it is so Spring-y!

Love this outfit. I love love love yellow in any season, particularly in the dreary winter months when everyone else is wearing such boring colors!
I have a question. I was wondering if you’d explain in comment, or even a post, your philosophy on buying clothes that will last you a long time and how you take care of them? I’d really like to start investing in nice clothes once I reach my goal weight but struggle when I see the price tag of some higher quality clothes.

I don’t think you have to pay full price for everything! I’ll continue to keep an eye out at thrift stores, but be more selective about what I buy (whereas when I went before I was building a wardrobe and bought things no matter the quality). I have a dress from Gap though, that’s a flattering cut that I have worn for YEARS, and will wear until it literally falls apart. It’s one of the best examples of buying things that you love, not worrying as much about whether it’s on sale, because you’ll be able to wear it for years. TH gave me some books on building a wardrobe for Christmas awhile ago that I’d like to use to help build a wardrobe of nice staples, and then I can buy cheaper pieces to help fill things out.

6You NEED to wear more yellow, it’s SO flattering! Your porceline skin tone with the darker hair complements the yellow so nicely!!!

8Adorable. You are inspiring me to remember thrift stores when the clothes-shopping bug hits me - that skirt, especially, is very nice!
Oh, and your awesome wedding shoes MAKE the outfit, IMHO.

9It’s a cute outfit! I think you should get your hair cut though. Whenever I see your pics I always think you’d look so cute with a shorter bob!

10I love everything: how happy you look, how great you look with the weight you have lost, the outfit, your hair cut and color, and you and that cute baby!

11I love this Spring outfit! Your shoes pull it all together. I wish I had better luck when I go to a thrift store. It’s probably lack of vision on my part, but everything looks so mangy.

14You know what would be really cool? If you pulled a PW and as you grew out of each piece of clothing you offered it up on the blog in a “Cleaning Out My Closet” post.

15You look great! Yellow is a good color on you, and so chic right now.
Talk to me about the makeup you wear? I’ve STILL got acne, but at 28 I’m trying to transition into a more adult beauty regime. My go-to’s are Physician’s Formula and Neutrogena, but… I’m not totally satisfied.

I just have really nice skin. It’s the genes!
I am using an acne wash from the dermatologist (I had this rash that really screwed with my skin) and I think it helps my skin cells turn over faster, which makes me skin look nicer. Maybe an exfoliation scrub?
I’m a big fan of Fresh brand makeup, both the powder and the foundation, but they are very expensive. I am addicted to the dewy look they give me though

20Jenna this is so cute I love it! I never feel like I find anything when I go thrifting (I’m impatient) but you make me want to dig & search harder.

21I’d love to see this without the jacket! Since you would wear it without the jacket (at least I think?), will you show us?

I’m going to do a white shirt+belt+tan tank+tan skirt combo this week that won’t have the jacket and I think will look really cute!

25Adorable jacket - love the color and the texture. It makes a great outfit! I am noticing that your shoes are generally the most expensive part (not that they’re overpriced or anything). I need shoes that are more fun too!
