A Funk
Hi, I’m in a funk. I feel kind of hazy and… off.
A little like this foggy/hazy day we had in Chicago a few weeks ago.
Some stuff going on with my family is really bumming me out, and it’s been in the 70′s here in Chicago and we have no air conditioning in our apartment. AND they tell us they probably won’t turn it on for another month. (Because some wimp complained that it was too cold at night not to have heat.)
Also, I’ve been sucking at dieting and tracking and working out, pretty much since my birthday. I’ll write about that next week.
Blech!
Lisa is spending two nights at our apartment this weekend, and I think she’s going to help me get over myself.
And it’s Day In The Life Day today, which means I am avidly taking pictures of everything I do as you read this.
That’s all.
I love the picture of T1, the coloring you did on it is beautiful.
I hate being in a funk. To me running help but I don’t know if your knee is better to have that option yet (or if running would help the way it does for me).
1I hope you find some inspiration and joy in the days to come and that the things bothering you improves.
Oh girl, I feel you on the heat in your apartment issue for sure. It was 85 here on Tuesday, and super humid. Our heat was definitely still on our place gets NO airflow from our windows because the building next door is like, three feet away. I took three cold showers in one day. Blergh!!!!
Feel better…and maybe give yourself a break from the dieting/tracking thing and just do what feels right?
2Hang in there! I’ve been in a funk all week too. I come home from work and snack and avoid doing things that are good for me, like yoga, and I barely have any energy (which is because I’m not working out), and then I get grumpy because I skipped a workout. Also, it’s been really hot all week and we don’t turn our AC on until it’s at least 85 degrees, so I’m doing Bikram Treadmill until then.
3But, on the bright side, even if you’ve been sucking at dieting and tracking, you still look really great, and it’s totally normal to hit a plateau or even gain a little bit back. Cut yourself some slack about it and you’ll get back on track soon.
I was just blogging myself about my week. It’s kind of like yours. I am so emotional today. At some point the tears will flow, I can just feel it. So… you are not alone!
4So glad I read your blog today. I’ve been having the same week and the tears were flowing 15 minutes into the work day…not good! I had to have a minor surgery on Tuesday and not being able to run has put me in a funk big time. I’m having a self-pity day and need to get over myself…ASAP!
5Sorry to hear you’re in a blech-y space. This too, shall pass. I hope that whatever is going on with your family has a happy resolution. Take care.
6Awe so sorry. Hugs! I think this blaaaah is going around. I’ve had it a bit myself.
7Oh, I so feel you on being in a funk/being off. I just got back from almost three weeks of vacation in Texas, and returned to Colorado to an apartment of boxes (I packed before I left, Bobby moved us). I’m so off of my schedule it’s not even funny. I haven’t been running in 3 straight weeks, so I might have to backtrack a few weeks on C25K since I’m doing it barefoot and don’t want to hurt myself. Blech. Oh, and instead of unpacking? I’m surfing the internet
8Hope things look brighter! I usually let myself wallow for a little while when I get in a funk, then seek out something different. Hopefully, Lisa’s visit will help.
9Sorry you’re in a funk! I often have a bit of a slip after a birthday or other occasion where I’ve been self-congratulatory. Eating well and exercising being healthy in general for me is all about momentum. When all of them are happening, they all feed into each other. When one of them gets off track….these others can follow quickly!
Are you limiting your work outs a bit to give your knee time to feel better? That’s definitely important but can be really depressing too. The positive side is that you are craving your healthy routine! Take that as a sign that you are making fundamental lifestyle changes because you aren’t able to stay “off track” without noticing it, talking about it, and seeking to improve it fairly quickly.
Sometimes progress doesn’t feel like progress though. Head up, girl!
10Huh. So weird, because I’ve been feeling the same way- hazy is the best way I can describe it too but it seems so vague. I hope we both feel better soon.
11If it makes you feel any better The past couple of days have been super crappy over here too. And my husband broke my nose.. accidentally.. but still. All my love!
12Apparently it is a funkalicious week. Because we are having that problem here too. Just want you to know you aren’t alone!
13I hope that you have had a much better day! I ran across the little box you send the lip balm in a few days and it made me smile
You are such a wonderful person and help so many others feel happy, that I hope you have a bit of a pick-me-up this weekend for yourself!
14Count me in the funk party. It’s been beautiful here (finally! I can’t relate on the being too hot - I’m just glad it’s warm here) and a friend I haven’t seen in 9 months was visiting. But it was exams for the both of us so we’ve just been busy and grumpy this whole time.
15I was in a funk for about two weeks. It comes and goes…see you on the other side of it!
16I hope you can be lifted out of it… sometimes it is good to honor your funk too and respect it and then move on. Wow, that sounds like the yoga girl in me talking, but I think it is true.

I like that. Honor the funk.
This is kind of how I’m feeling lately too. Things will look up soon, Jenna! : )
18Chin Up, TW!! You have come so so far. You’re only human and it’s ok to give yourself permission to forgive yourself after an off-period. I was doing great running in Match, but when the April rains came, I dropped the ball totally. You are inspiring others to find their best selves. Keep at it with swimming and the rest will follow.
19I hate feeling like that. It’s rough. But the best part about those funky days/weeks/months? They pass, eventually.
So sorry that things are going on with your family. Sending warm thoughts to them and hoping for a speedy resolution.
20been having a funk week..so hang in there
21I get in funks sometimes - sometimes weeks of funk (usually from guilt over my should-list and procrastination) - and while I don’t know how to cure yours, it always makes me feel better about myself to know I’m not the only one who gets them. Cleaning the house and working out usually makes me feel better. xoxo
22Hi Jenna - I’m sad that you are in a funk
I hope you find your way out soon. I’m looking forward to your day in the life post - they’re some of my favorites!!
