4th of July
Normally we sit at home a whole lot, and I struggle at times to figure out what to write about. Not so during our time at home! I have so many things I want to document on the blog but I’m out playing so much that I don’t have the time I need to sit down and edit the photos so I can show them to you. It’s a nice problem to have though, and I’m enjoying my time here.
The 4th of July this year was first spent at the church for a short memorial program.
After the program it was time for breakfast. The same men who’ve always been there were standing in a line dishing out eggs, pancakes, and ham. It was very familiar (though I must point out, innovation is a good thing RC).
That night TH and I took off on our own for a romantic night watching fireworks without the little one in tow.
We found a spot on the grass and watched the sun set over Moses Lake. I wanted to be wearing red, white, and blue (white earrings, red necklace, blue pumps) but the blue pumps weren’t comfortable enough so red had to do.
With a little bit of camera magic, even Moses Lake can look quite beautiful.
I’m still on the quest to create the perfect fireworks photo. I don’t think I’m quite there yet, but I like this year’s batch better than my best one from last year.
Do you live near Moses Lake? I knew a guy from there, his name’s Jake Anderson. I’ve never been there, but I got the impression it was a rather small area. He didn’t go to public schools though, and I’m assuming it’s a pretty rural area, so I don’t know that you would’ve ever met him. lol.

1Oh how fun! I had to work the next day & new it would be late so I decided to not trek anywhere this year! But I was able to step into my front yard, crouch just right & see some fireworks over the trees!

2I try to wear red, white and blue on the 4th too — but why not a blouse or skirt in one of the colors? I know you love black and we’ll probably always disagree on it, but you look so pretty in colors that (I think, YMMV, etc) it’s a shame to always be wearing so much black.

3I have a question. I feel like the LDS church is known for being very patriotic. Do you think that your church encourages patriotism in general, or is it because you believe that America is the holy land (I don’t know if that’s the term you would use, but I think you know what I mean). Like, if you were an LDS member living in South Africa do you think there would be the same level of patriotism?

I think there are a few reasons. First, we do believe that North America is the “promised land” or “Zion” so there is a greater feeling of respect. Second, we really emphasize genealogy and a connection to the past, so people know who they are related to and the stories of their past. My grandma has tracked one line of the family all the way back to the Mayflower! I think another reason would be the believe that the forefathers were guided by God in the constitution and other things.
I think patriotism is great, but when it veers into “The way we do things in America is the only way and everyone else doesn’t know anything” is a bad, bad place to be.

We didn’t do much on the 4th of July but we did go see fireworks and grilled some food at home. I don’t feel that any of what we did was very patriotic though. It was more about being with family.
I did wear a dress that had white blue and a reddish color though.
Picture wise, I like how your last one show a little bit of the fireworks reflection on the lake.
