Fashionably Modest: Thais in Pink

Posted by Jenna, Under Uncategorized

Thais is a brazilian blogger living in the Dallas area. She’s working toward a Bachelors in nursing and the counter she has on the righthand side of her blog, letting you know how many days/hours/mins/secs until she finishes school, is kind of how I feel about working toward a degree. You can find her blog here, and follow her on Twitter here. I’m going to bring T1 over to her house when we move back to Dallas so her dogs can lick his face. He needs some exposure to animals (we think it will help him avoid allergies).

I enjoy dressing up as much as I can. Since I’m a nurse and I work night shift (7pm - 7am) most of my time is spent in scrubs or pajamas which makes me feel pretty depressed so by the end of my work week I am ready to get gussied up. This is what I wore to church to teach Relief Society. I’m one of those people that feel like jeans and flip flops are no no’s to church so I usually dress up more than most.

White shirt - Ann Taylor Loft $25

  1. Thais is adorable, but I mostly wanted to comment to offer up my dogs’ face licking services. My younger dog, Helo, is a voracious face licker. It’s his preferred method for waking us up, greeting us after a long day of work and seeing what we had for dinner. We typically don’t let him lick kids’ faces (not all parents are down for that, you know?) but we’d make an exception for T1 if your family ever makes it to the beautiful world of Peoria, IL. :)

  4. I am suprised that you said “I’m one of those people who feel that jeans and flip flops are no-nos to church.” I’m not LDS, but my husband is. I was always under the impression that any pants are not allowed for women, not to mention jeans! Are there other wards where women do wear pants (jeans or dress pants)? Are nice slacks with a dress shirt church appropriate, or are skirts always better?

Pants are not common, but not exactly not allowed. It’s kind of a grey area that is undefined. I think it’s a good general rule to discourage them because pants can easily stray into a very casual look, or they can be incredibly tight in a way that dresses at church don’t really end up being.

I would say, if you want to blend in, that skirts are always better. Anyone who wears pants is really going to stick out.

    Kayla,

I have seen women wear dress pants to church, but it is not the norm and if you were visiting you would be more than likely the only woman in pants like Jenna said you would stick out.

No jeans are worn to church. An occasional investigator might, but active members know not to.

What I was referring to was women wearing jean skirts to church which I believe is not appropriate because it is too casual. It’s too casual. We expect our men to wear slacks and a white shirt, and most wear suits. So I feel that women should be held to a similar standard of formality.

You will never not be allowed in church building no matter what you wear though. Anybody is welcome in jeans or not.

  5. Jenna!

I had fun having the husband take these at the Rowlett farmer’s market! :D

You are welcome to bring T1 over, April will lick him up good! She’s beyond social and loves to lick little kids to death. Oliver not so much, but he is still a nice doggie.
