The elections are still a year away. It feels like they do nothing but talk about election 2012 lately. With everyone constantly coming out with this reason why that person sucks, and that reason this thing will fail, it’s nice to know there are website like Politificat keeping it real (and keeping me in the know (the actual know found in the land of truthville, not the village of hyperbole and the valley of fiction).
I particularly like looking through the “pants on fire” statements.
I always love to hear what Donald Trump has to say (because he is completely ridiculous).
“The people that went to school with (Barack Obama), they never saw him, they don’t know who he is.”
Pants on fire.

Interesting. I’ll have to check this site out. It is so very hard to get past all the bull to the real truth of the matter.

This is probably my husband’s favorite website. With the NH primary up in a few months, we’ll be checking it more and more frequently.

I love Politifact! The evaluation of the republican debate was pretty astonishing, so many lies! (though I do think they tend to evaluate what are the most outlandish claims by people) It’s also interesting to see the promises kept and broken section.

I also prefer to spend most of my time in the land of Truthville! Great site, thanks for sharing.

This is one of my favorites as well!
The number one tip I can give people when it comes to election time is this: If you hear some crazy, terrible, off the wall sound byte, or short quote, and all the article sharing it has to say is how terrible, horrible, or crazy the speaker is, please for the love of all that is good and holy just Google it. Usually you will find the entire speech around the quote, which gives it context, and you’ll see where/when it was given, which further gives it context. A lot of times, the shocker quotes are far less shocking and pretty banal when you get to the full story. Radio personalities are the absolute worst about doing this, and I’m banging my head against a wall all election season as my FB friends share ridiculous “news stories” based around an out of context (or incorrectly quoted) comment that they heard on the radio…

Like when Fox was reporting that Democrat union members were promoting violence against Republicans by showing a clip of a union president saying “Let’s take them out!” Turns out the full quote was something like “The elections are coming up and we are going to get to decide who stays in power. Let’s take them out!”
Ugh.
I was disappointed politifact didn’t review Ron Paul’s statement about the air conditioning in Iraq though!

oh I hate all those election commercials where they are just slamming on the other candidate and not really telling us what they are all about. i always say if they used all the money that they spend on those stupid commercials and slamming articles and yadda yadda yadda they could probably do some good. I mean really let’s use that money for something else because I hate watching and listening to them.

Ha, this is so not political, but your pants on fire comment reminded me of it - the newest Anti-Ohio-State t-shirts all say “liar liar Vest on Fire” get it?

Jim Tressel, Ohio State’s old football coach used to wear a vest all the time, to games, meetings, dinner, etc. He was involved in a big scandal this spring/summer and resigned/was asked to leave.
