I’ve been skeptical of mineral makeup. I’ve always used liquid foundation because I think it looks a bit more luminous, and I thought that mineral makeup would just look caked on and unnatural. My mom uses it though, and loves it, and I admit I’ve been curious what it might look like on me. So when Pur Minerals offered up the chance to test out their 5-piece Start Now Kit I was first in line to give it a try.
Instead of prattling on and on about this product, why don’t I just show you a picture? Here I am on the left, absolutely no makeup straight out of the shower. On the right, after 10 minutes in the bathroom. Isn’t that difference amazing? I used the primer, the pressed mineral makeup foundation all over, the mineral glow on my cheekbones, and the impact+ mascara on my eyelashes. The eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lip gloss were items I previously owned.
I still use my liquid foundation sometimes (I don’t want good money to go to waste!) but I find myself preferring the flawless look that the mineral makeup gives me. I plan to always use this when I get my picture taken from now on, because it looks so good, and I would love to have my Jenna Cole clients do so as well. I knew that people loved mineral makeup for the even coverage, but I didn’t realize how much I would love the look. The other bonus? Putting this on feels so fast and easy. Sometimes if I’m in a hurry I skip the primer and just brush on the foundation, a bit of mineral glow, and some mascara. So fast, so easy, and impossible to mess up.
I think if there was anything I don’t like about the product/experience it’s that I think I chose a shade that’s a bit dark for my skin. What do you think based on the picture? Maybe I’m just over-analyzing. You can find Pur Minerals at a variety of retailers, and once we move back to Dallas I plan on dropping in to Ulta and trying the different shades out in person.
Details below for how you can enter to win your own starter kit to see if you love it as much as I do!

If I recall correctly, it depends on exactly what minerals are in the makeup. Some have minerals that can do bad things with pictures, but I don’t think that’s true of all.
That being said, I can’t stand the stuff. I’ve tried a variety and some look ok in photos, others don’t, but they ALL feel absolutely horrible on my face. It’s like they pull any moisture/oil out of my skin and then just sit with it on the surface. The result being that my skin feels ridiculously dry (overall) AND oily (at the surface) at the same time. I’ve also found that it highlights any fine wrinkles like nothing else. SAD…because it is super quick and easy to use.

Primer is a cream that’s supposed to “prime” your face for makeup
. They claim it fills in lines, and helps the makeup sit on your face a little bit better. It has kind of a silky feel to it.

PS-pretty sure there are Ulta stores in Chicago. My grandmother used to frequent them.
PPS-Every so often they do a buy one get one free sale at Ulta. Great way to save $25.

PS-The reason I went to Pur Minerals in the first place was because I felt uncomfortable letting who knows what chemicals soak into my face on a daily basis. Pur Minerals isn’t perfect, but it is better than most mainstream brands. Specifically I believe they have no parabens. The mineral makeup made by Cover Girl, etc. still has the same chemicals as their normal products.

Jenna,
I think you look great. Mineral make up is very good, but it doesn’t last on my oily skin very long and I feel like it doesn’t give me as much coverage as a liquid foundation and ever since going of BC I’ve been breaking out a lot. I would suggest you get bare minerals well rested for under the eyes. Maybe Pur Minerals has something similar though, I’m just more familiar with Bare minerals. Well rested is the only thing that will keep my dark under eye circles bright with the ridiculous back and forth schedule I put my body through. I would go for porcelain… I’m pretty darn pale. lol

I think I’d choose light… I think. I hope! I got a teeny sample of mineral makeup at sephora and loved it, and keep meaning to bite the bullet and buy some. This would be great!

What if we’re not US residents but we have a US mailing address? If it’s only a matter of shipping.

I would probably pick the light color. It’s hard to tell so I would have to find a store and look at them in person because I tend to have red undertones but don’t think I’m “medium”.

Funny that you thought mineral makeup would look caked on because I thought the opposite (that it wouldn’t look like I was wearing any makeup). Anyway, I’d choose Light/Porcelain.
