Exploring Chicago With My Sister

November 25, 2011 By: Jenna Category: Adventures

My sister flew into town last weekend to do some babysitting while That Husband and I flew to Dallas for a weekend hosted by Company X. She did a fabulous job taking care of T1 (as we knew she would) and as a bonus she took great pictures of whatever he was up to while we were gone.

Side note: T1 *loves* his daddy. He far and away prefers daddy to mommy, and his favorite thing to do is to grab this particular Polish storybook off the shelf and bring it over for TH to read to him.

Take A Look Inside My Fridge

November 23, 2011 By: Jenna Category: Uncategorized

I’ve been featured on a blog called RobinsBite. Robin is a nutritionist in Dallas and they emailed me to ask if I’d like to participate in a series they run called Inside the Fridge. It’s a simple idea, have people take pictures of the contents of their fridge and answer a series of questions relating to shopping, eating, budgeting, etc. The post featuring my fridge can be found here, but I recommend reading through some of the others as well, like this one which features a woman who compares and contrasts her culinary life in Paris versus her life in Texas, and this one where a mom provides a chart detailing how her shopping/cooking habits changed after she had a baby (hint: she simplified :) ).

Can you tell I have food on the brain this week? My house is still a mess, but I’m really excited about Thanksgiving tomorrow. The menu feels accessible and our friends have a son the same age as ours, so it should be a great afternoon. I’ll be back soon with pictures of my adventures with my sister this past week.

My kitchen is calling out to me, time to get in there and get some Thanksgiving prep done.

Pear and Butternut Squash Soup

November 21, 2011 By: Jenna Category: Cooking

It’s Thanksgiving menu planning time! We’re hosting another couple with one baby the same age as ours, and I’m thinking I’ll contribute the following:

Spinach, cranberry, walnut, goat cheese salad
Focaccia
Butternut squash lasagna
Green beans
Apple pie crisp

My friend is going to take care of some of the more traditional stuff like mashed potatoes and pumpkin roll. Notice anything missing from the list? No turkey! I only want the heritage pasture-raised incredibly expensive kind, and so we’re going to go turkey-free this year. Don’t worry, I checked with our friends and they are up for a vegetarian take on Thanksgiving.

If you’re having a hard time figuring out a menu for Thursday, I highly recommend this Roasted Butternut Squash and Pear soup. I don’t think T1 has ever liked anything better than this, and he’s constantly running over to the fridge and pointing to the container to tell me he wants more of this particular nom-nom. You’ll like it too, it’s one of the most candy-like soups I’ve ever tasted.

Do tell, what is your Thanksgiving menu looking like?

That Sister is in Chicago

I’m on the runway waiting to take off, and my sister is back at our apartment with T1. She came in to town to babysit while TH and I head to Dallas for a weekend hosted by Company X.

I’ve decided that we need to live next door to each other. Not only because grocery shopping is more fun when we do it together, and because she takes fabulous pictures of me with T1, but because one weekend of this much time together just isn’t enough! She is one of my favorites.

Giveaway: My Wonderful Walls

November 16, 2011 By: Jenna Category: Uncategorized

Update: My Wonderful Walls is now offering a discount code to That Wife readers! Enter in the code “thatwife” during checkout anytime through November and you’ll receive 15% off your entire purchase. I’m tempted to use this myself and keep the farm scene stickers on hand for T1′s future bedroom…

The area above our couch recently went from looking like this….

To this, all thanks to My Wonderful Walls.

They offered to send me a wall sticker of my choice, and even though they are currently a company geared toward making stickers and stencils for decorating children’s rooms, I thought I could make the Classic Oak Family Tree Wall Sticker work in a more adult setting as well. Prepare for a picture heavy post below as I show you how it was done, but I have a giveaway waiting at the end for you so that you can choose ANY product from the My Wonderful Walls site to decorate your own room.
