Style Files: Coral
This shirt is impossible to wear with black. If I try to do so, it looks like I’m celebrating Halloween. In February. With this animal print skirt from my mom, a belt, the pearls my gifted me on my wedding day, and these fabulous coral heels I purchased for my best friend’s wedding day, this outfit feels nothing like the Day of the Dead. It makes me think of Spring and lightness and happiness.
Shirt: Ann Taylor, thrifted
Belt: thrifted
Skirt: Ann Taylor, borrowed from my mom
Shoes: Purchased several years ago from Endless
Pearls: Wedding day gifts from my parents
By the way, I’ve mentioned the Gibson Tuck a few times now as a new go-to hairstyle for me. You can see how it looks from the back in the photo on the right.
I’ve been behind on my blog reading and busy doing other stuff, so it’s been a few weeks since I’ve checked in on yours. I just wanted to say how fabulous you look! You must have made major progress in weight loss. This outfit is perfect for Spring, very cheerful and put-together, but still sophisticated. I also use the Gibson tuck as a go-to style. It works well with my short layered hair too.

2I totally have that shirt in pink and green! I love it. I too have an orange shirt that I have trouble pairing with black - I usually wear it with my charcoal gray pants instead. I think you look fantastic - what an awesome combination.

3Hello, skinny lady! Great outfit. You look like a politician’s wife (I mean that in a good way — very polished). The belt is such a good addition as it really pulls the look together. And I am a big fan of the Gibson Tuck myself!

With all this political craziness on the news all the time I’m always telling TH how glad I am that he’s not a US citizen which means he can’t even entertain the idea of running for office. Ha!
This blog would not be good news for a politicians wife, LOL.

5I LOVE LOVE LOVE this outfit! It makes me think of sunshine and warm weather on this dreary, snowy day the East Coast is having. When I first saw the picture, I thought the skirt was sparkly! Which, if it was would make a great going out / party outfit. I can’t really tell what type of print it is from the photos? A+ on this outfit. And I am going to try and recreate it with my clothing.

9how do you get your hair to stay nice and tight on the sides? do you pin it in place on the sides? because when I do the gibson tuck my hair is so loose on the sides, it just droops down and looks so stupid. maybe it is because i have coarse, frizzy, curly hair. does this style only work with straight smooth hair?

ditto this question. I’ve even had problems getting the sock bun to work for me because of the curls just not wanting to cooperate. Of course, I suppose the point is moot for me now because I donated my hair last month..

I have coarse, frizzy, wavy hair and I have no problem with the style staying in place, so I wouldn’t say that you need smooth, straight hair for this. Perhaps you need to make the original ponytail tighter and don’t pull it away from your head very far before you tuck the hair? That’s the only thing I can think of that would make a difference in the tightness on the sides. I never need to pin it on the sides; I just put some pins around the ponytail holder to secure the majority of my hair to my head and hide the holder. I hope this helps! Good luck

I’ve had the same problem, but I have very thick coarse hair. It ends up looking droopy and bobby pins don’t want to hold it in place :\

I make sure I don’t pull my ponytail out too far just before I create the “nest” in the middle, which helps keep it tight. If that makes sense?
And I slip one pin in the center to keep it in place, as well as a few on the sides near my ears to hold my shorter front pieces back.
The longer my hair gets though, the more difficult this style is. It’s definitely a shorter-style ‘do.

I love the color coral: I think it’s flattering on most skin tones. It’s so soft and summery.

17Okay,
1. The outfit itself is just gorgeous!
2. The Gibson Tuck is fantastic! I want to try it as soon as my hair grows out a little bit more!
3. You, sister, are looking SO FANTASTIC! Maybe it’s the outfit (which you should always wear, because I think this is the most flattering thing you’ve ever worn) or lighting … but I think all the hard work you’ve been doing and healthy habits you’ve developed are really paying off.
