TWLC3 Week 2

Posted by Jenna, Under weight

How did everyone else do? I’m not really down on the scale, but I definitely feel better. I did pretty good with my goals, but there were some areas of improvement. I didn’t run 3x (only twice, I was going to do the third run the morning of my wedding on Saturday (where I was scheduled to shoot for at least 12 hours) but That Husband convinced me that was kind of insane and so I only got two runs in this week). I did great on dessert, barring some dark chocolate (maybe that should be an exception in moderation?), and forgot to start weighing my cheese right away but I have high hopes about doing better next week.

I decided to start a new feature in these posts, featuring two pictures from my food blog.

Best food choice I made this week:

I love both of these dishes and hope to eat them regularly. The asparagus salad is an adapted version of this one from 101 Cookbooks, using basil instead of cilantro and adding in nutritional yeast to give it a cheesy taste. The one in the foreground is a celery, dill, and apple salad similar to this one.

Worst food choice I made this week:

I was trying really hard to limit my carbohydrates, and I’d like to completely eliminate the processed white variety (barring dessert 1x/week). We were out and about and I waited far too long to eat and I chose to snack on some of these.

Tell me about your first week of TWLC3.

  1. I don’t have a great feeling about my first week. I was battling a cold so I didn’t work out much. I’m planning to make this week much better.

  2. It went pretty good, I lost 2 lbs! I’m struggling with running lately due to a knee injury so I need to find a good alternate for cardio. I’d also like to weight lift at least 2x a week going forward.

  3. I didn’t do so well. I gained. But I expected that.

I didn’t track my food last week, which is essential for me to lose weight. I’m also part of Weight Watchers, which I really enjoy, and it was nice going to the meeting on Sunday (when I weigh in)and get the encouragement from my leader.

He started Weight Watchers 3 years ago at 410lbs and lost 214lbs! So he’s amazing. There is also a woman in my group who lost 100lbs and has been maintaining her loss for a little over a year. So I really like going to meetings and interacting with people who are big losers (some 20, 34, 55, 100+ losses in my group) because it gets me refocused.

So even though I gained I know next week I will lose. I’m tracking everything I eat (bites, licks, and tastes) and I’m doing the 30 Day Shred, drinking more water, and going to be on time (9:30).

  5. I was really happy with my results, but they were kind of a fluke. I need to focus more on sticking to my workout plan and pre-planning my meals. I was worried about a weekend camping trip, but was surrounded by healthy foods and made decent choices. I did one short run and was active during the rest of the trip, so I was pleased with that. Looking forward to the coming week!

This week was OK - I was good about tracking my food and watching my calories (the only way I ever lose), but I didn’t make it to yoga at all. That’s the beauty of another week :)

Pretty good, despite some chocolate thrown in there. Nursing is great because I get a little more leeway in eating! I’m now at my pre pregnancy weight. If only this started a few months ago…those initial postpartum pounds were do easy to lose!

I lost a little over 2lbs, which I contribute to waterweight, and the first week kickstart back into healthy eating/moving. I doubt I can keep that kind of weight loss up! What I think helped me was attending yoga 3x instead of 1x, mindfully eating, especially desserts, and avoiding processed carbs.

Last week they announced that my favorite yoga center is closing here in NYC. I am tremendously sad about this, but they are offering a cheaper 2 month unlimited package that I may pick up in order to savor the last moments I will ever have in this studio.

  9. i lost around 2 lbs AND i hit all my goals. the food part generally comes easy to me, but i struggle with working out consistently, so i’m really proud that i hit my workout goal. my goal for this week is the do 3 morning workouts along with my 6 evening workouts. i also move to the 2nd phase of the 17 day diet this week, so that will automatically double my workout time and increase intensity.

  10. i’m 5 weeks postpartum and haven’t been “cleared” for exercise, but i managed to run a mile three days last week. also re-introducing weights into my routine (while the baby sleeps); kettlebell swings and deadlifts. food management going well since i’m making most meals at home and we don’t keep junk food in the house :) overall, have had lots of energy and good amount of sleep. hoping to get full clearance for exercise at my 6 week checkup this week!

  11. Down 3, which shocked me considering I was UP 2 a few days ago. Water is oh so important for me and I think upping my intake after realizing I was up from my start weight really helped to shed the extra water weight my body was holding on to. Although I must admit I am slightly worried I will gain this next week and that it was just a fluke on the scale this morning.

Kate, Kathy and I just started a 30 day challenge to make sure we are getting our daily recommended water each day. Hopefully that will get the habit started of drinking what I need to.

  12. I didn’t remember to sign on to join in but I lost about two pounds (nearly one kilo) this week. I’m doing paleo - I have some nut cheese recipes and a bunch of low carb, savoury baked goods going up on my food blog this week that might work for you? They’re all pretty quick/easy and might help you stay on track? I also have a cracker recipe that’s all seeds and nuts that also might be good for you if you’re out and about?

That asparagus salad looks totally awesome!

  13. this week was amazing. for some reason this time feels different than my other attempts to get on board the healthy train. i WANT to go to the gym. i think it helped that i was five weeks into my Couch to 5K program when TWLC3 started. myfitnesspal has been a godsend. i’ve been at the gym every day this week and i’m down 5 pounds. i think the difference for me lies in setting a goal besides being a certain size or weight (signed up for a half marathon in november). my workouts are geared towards that goal and seeing improvement in my endurance and strength feels amazing. i don’t expect every week to deliver the same numbers as this week, but i hope to reproduce the effort.

  14. Didn’t do much as my daughter came down with Hand, Foot and Mouth disease, and then we took a trip to Penang, Malaysia (supposed to have the best food in SE Asia, so forget watching what I eat there!). I did exercise for the first time in WAY too long, which is a step in the right direction. Must keep plodding along.

I really like these update posts BTW. I hope you do more!

  15. I eliminated a little bit of weight AND lost a couple of inches. Overall, I feel okay with my weight elimination thus far even though I had hoped it would have been more. I am working out and I tend to gain when I begin a new exercise routine. I am hoping that this coming week will prove to get rid of a lil bit more.
