One Quick Take

I don’t bathe my kids every day (The Dirt on Clean is partially to blame for this, at least I’m not putting it off for years at a time like parents used to do with their children). Logistics are a bit tricky by myself, but I’ve figured out how to get them both in, bathe them at the same time with only minimal splashing into baby’s face, and back out again without anyone drowning. And even though I like simplifying the bedtime routine by leaving the bath for another day, the moment when I pull a clean child out of the tub is a highlight of parenting for me. They smell wonderful, their skin is soft, and no matter the age they cling to me tight and lean their head against my shoulder. I ask them “Who’s going to get out first, my first baby or my second baby?” I encourage independence and growth and have no desire to keep them as babies forever, but this is one of the things I’ll miss when they’re grown.

  1. Aww, so cute! I love the moment of getting clean child out of the bath too (mine likes to pretend she’s a baby, I wrap her in a towel and sing her lullabies as part .of the “game”)

  2. Lovely.

I used to bathe with my kids, my babies, until they got too big. It was very peaceful.

  4. I try to bathe mine (together) every night before bed. Which means it happens every-other day and never on fridays or saturdays (I love sunday morning bath time). I’m already teaching ollie how to wash his own hair, so hopefully that will pay off soon. For now I love seeing them play in our giant tub together. Maybe once T2 is bigger it will be a bit easier to bathe them together.

  5. So adorable. So i nearly got you a present for this exact purpose yesterday and was then worried it would be interpreted as creepy, haha. It was this weird fanlike thing to put on the kidlets’ heads to stop shampoo running into their eyes. I had them as a kid and they’re hilarious looking and so practical as I remember Mum trying to rinse one before the other got soap in their eyes and these prevented it.

I am so looking forward to having time like this with bebes one day <3

A practical and useful gift is very rarely creepy :)

So maybe I will get them after all. I admit, part of it is just wanting to see an adorable photo of T1 in a pink pleated hat, hahaha! :)

  6. I looooove bath time! My kids don’t get baths every day, and when they have them more frequently it’s just for play not actually to wash them. Now that Lyla is old enough for me not to worry about her, they play in there for up to an hour together while I fold laundry, clean the bathroom, read a book, whatever (all close by of course)! I love it. I am continually amazed that they literally have the same handful of bath toys that we have had since Eli was 1 or 2 and yet somehow they find entertainment in them every single bath time. T1 & T2 will just have more and more fun together as she gets a little older.

I have started folding my diapers while they bathe - but somehow never thought about giving the bathroom a wipedown while they are splashing! Then I would probably spend less time feeling embarrassed about the state of our second bathroom when guests come over :)
