Why I Should Use My Baton Rouge Dentist For Cosmetic Procedures

We have been seeing a recent trend of dentists taking on things like Botox procedures, chemical peels, and other facial treatments. This trend has naturally brought up the question, should I use my dentist for cosmetic procedures? After all, your dentist is supposed to work solely on what’s inside your mouth, right? Well, we have a few reasons why that is not the case and you should use your Baton Rouge dentist for cosmetic procedures.
First of all, the role of the dentist has changed over the years. There was a time where the dentist’s job was simply to help you take care of your teeth and remove any teeth that were a problem. In fact, according to the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE)), there was a time where dental implants weren’t considered to be part of a dentist’s job because it was thought to distract from saving the existing teeth. But, times have changed and the role of the dentist has evolved to include implants, veneers, whitening, and many other oral and perioral procedures that have entered the marketplace.
It only stands to reason that as you move outside of the mouth, that your dentist be the one you turn to for procedures that affect your smile. Dentists receive more facial training than almost every other medical professional. Chemical peels, Botox, dermal fillers, and so on are all focused on improving your appearance. That always starts with your smile. So if you feel you need a specialist, should your smile be what they specialize in? The AAFE puts it best when they ask, “Do you think for a moment that other healthcare professionals know or are concerned about the proper ratios of lips to teeth, the smile considerations when the patients go into a partial or a full smile, proper phonetics, and how the teeth relate to the soft tissue surrounding the mouth?”
Another reason you should use your Baton Rouge dentist for cosmetic procedures is your relationship. You already have a relationship with your dentist. You know them and they know you. If your dentist is trained in the procedure you are interested in, has someone on staff with the training, or hosts a special event that focuses on that procedure, there is no reason to open yourself to another professional you don’t know.
The Smile Spa has two events this month that fit into that third category. The first of those events is our Botox and Peel party on Monday, August 22nd from 4:30 – 7:30 pm. The second is later in the week with our Restylane Silk event from noon – 3pm Thursday August 25th. These events are a great way to give a dentist an opportunity to prove that they are the right choice for cosmetic procedures.
