Blogroll Makeover

Posted by Jenna, Under blog

As I learned yesterday while attempting to help give my friend a blog makeover (it was a complete disaster, the blog still looks the same but she lost her entire blogroll), when you give your blog a face lift you often lose all of your links. Mourning over her lost list reminded me that I still haven’t begun rebuilding mine either!

Readers, who are you? I’m an all-inclusive blogroll kind of person, and if you are visiting me, I would love to start visiting you, so leave a comment below!

I plan on having a few different sections:

Family (duh, for people I am related to)

Real Life Friends (because for some reason I like making the distinction between people I meet online and people I meet in real life)

E-Friends (for all of the friends I’ve met online, definitely some of my very favorite friends)

Bee Friends (once a bee, always a bee)

Lovely Ones (for the blogs I admire but would never dare to call my “e-friends” since I’m just a silly little wife)

Let me know who you are so I can fill up my already overflowing google reader list. If you’ve already de-lurked once before, don’t be afraid to do it again and leave your address for me one more time!

I’ll leave you with a question to help me improve things a little bit more: What content do you like to read most on this blog? Weight loss? Recipes? Photo adventures? Failed attempts at home decorating? My baby obsession?

Do you have any suggestions for things I should write about in the future or ways you think I can improve? (Don’t be afraid to be honest, I have pretty thick skin and TH has a nice soft shoulder to cry on if you happen to hit a nerve.)

  1. Hi! I just commented for the first time a few days ago, but I will comment again. I believe I found your blog through Weddingbee….I’m not sure how. But I was a reader, and you are a bee…so that must be how I landed here! I like reading about everything you blog about…it’s all encompassing, and I like that! Even the recipes which I have yet to make but I always drool over the pictures.

    1
  2. My favorites are weight loss, recipes, and your pictures! Really though, I really do enjoy everything you write about.

I also like learning more about you and TH and seeing pictures of you guys together.

    2
  3. So, I lurk on your blog a lot and occasionally post. :) You don’t have to put me on your blogroll though because my blog can be pretty boring and often I find myself in blogging slumps.

I love photos (ah, I aspire one day to be a photojournalist or life photographer!), so I’m more inclined to say that I enjoy photo-heavy posts.

Keep doing what you’re doing, because obviously a lot of people like stalking your blog as much as I do, haha.

  4. I’ve never posted a comment until today but I enjoy reading about your weight lost (currently lost about 4 lbs so far but long ways to go), your photography as well as your friend Kelli since I’m working my way up the photography world, your baking since it seems you don’t use eggs (bf is allergic to it) and the pictures too :) I started reading your comments from the weddingbee, a friend of mine discovered it and told me that it would be good for me to research ideas and as well as ideas for my own wedding (not yet engaged but will be soon). But thanks again for your site, its fun to read.

  5. Hi Jenna,
I found you through WeddingBee too… :) I enjoy reading about all the stuff-marriage, recipes, babies, whatever! :) I just find it interesting to read about other people’s lives!

  6. I have never commented on your blog before, and I’m not sure how I found your blog, I originally started reading That Bride, I just love hearing about your adventures and getting inspiration from you, especially the weight loss.

  7. I’m a huge fan of your blog. Seriously, you do a great job. I just started blogging again, so here is my new blog address.

    7
  8. Weddingbee too! I LOVED your wedding! To bad it was after mine or I would have stole all your ideas!

    Anyways… I love the photos.

    8
  9. Hey Jenna! Found you through Weddingbee, and I’m starting to venture into the blogosphere myself, so I enjoy reading ones that are updated regularly with thoughtful, entertaining content. :-)

    9
  10. You got me totally motivated on weight loss with your recent column. I’m hooked on Fitday.com and am going to be successful this time. I’m dying to hear your thoughts on WW because while I have been successful on it in the past, it didn’t last for me and so many others. I’ll never go there again. I’m doing it for me this time.

    10
  11. Hey there! Love your random ramblings… don’t change anything! :)

    11
  12. I Love your blog! I found you on weddingbee and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love your weightloss adventures because I’ve done the same thing. And I love your recipes and all your photos. There is nothing about your blog I don’t like!

    12
  13. Jenna,
I’ve been a fan since WeddingBee and I’ve loved reading your blog. I am always looking for new readers to my blog so I’d love to have you visit.

I enjoy your pics, recipes (though I’m not ambicious enough to try them yet) and the Sunday posts of course! I think I comment on those the most.

Hope you’re having a great Friday!!

    13
  14. You, of course, know that I’ve been reading since That Bride before you were a Bee! But my favorite things now are are the fun, silly little things in your daily life that make me smile — like jumping pictures with TH from your bike ride, or the tours of your home that make me feel like I’m really there. I’m in the lab all the time, and my science is way too thought-provoking, and often miserable, so I love looking to your blog for a bright spot to cheer up my day. Personally, I completely prefer fun posts to serious ones — I get enough seriousness in my daily life!

    14
  15. i like all of it, but the photo stuff and baby lust are the most entertaining topics. i like how you talk about lds too. as i told you, one of my bffs is mormon so i know some about it, but i really love hearing about it from your perspective too. you’re not too mollyish for me. ;)

    15
  16. I found you on That Bride awhile back when looking for bridesmaids hairdos. I ended up using one I found on your site for a friend’s wedding.

I like your recipes (Bean soup was a huge huge hit at my house!) and I really like your candid nature, especially your posts about your LDS faith.

My blog is about “spiritual stuff” and leading retreats, amongst other things. Your style and blogging helped inspire me to jump in and get blogging. :)

I happened to find you from WeddingBee. I quite enjoyed your writing there and rather admired you for your willingness to be so open and frank with regards to your religion.

I enjoy pretty well everything in your blog! It makes for a great read. :o) I suppose it’s ’cause you’re so frank.

I have two blogs - one which I started when I studied and lived in Paris at the age of 23/24. I continued that blog and still write in it to this day.

Although I have to admit my new blog is consuming a lot more of my recent writing efforts. In it I detail my journey towards healthfulness. I started on this journey at the age of 25 and weighing 215lbs. I’m now 28 and have lost approximately 55lbs.

  19. Ugh don’t even remind me on the pains of redisgning a blog and promptly losing links. If I had some sort of computer genius I would design a great way to backup links for everyone with a blog. If anyone does know a computer genius please ask him or her to get right on that.

You always write very thought provocing posts about lifes little foibles. I think it’s those I like more (though I do enjoy the pretty pictures too). You have a very interesting experience with life that I am sure many others would be interested in as well.

    19
  20. Hi Jenna! I found you through a friend but I read Weddingbee when I was planning my wedding. I like reading about weight loss and your recipes!

    20
  21. I occasionally post too! I actually mentioned your blog in a post I wrote today…

    21
  22. You know, I can’t remember when I began reading your blog, or how I found it…but I know that I LOVE to read it! I am especially enjoying all of your great pictures (I love that you used those suitcases in your wedding photos) as well as your writing about health and weight loss (as I am getting married in…let’s see…246 days! and looking to be a buff bride).

    22
  23. I lived below you freshman year, moved in with Natalie when our roomies both got married. I found your blog through Kelli’s and have no idea how I found her. I like the pictures and the baking, even though it makes me very hungry.

    23
  24. i like reading your blog. i enjoy reading everything except for the LDS stuff. honestly, i didn’t expect to like reading your blog b/c i so (incredibly, beyond belief, completely and totally) disagree with you on many things near and dear to my heart and incredibly important to me. BUT, i now realize i can take some things from your blog to heart, and ignore the things we don’t have in common. It’s not like everything I blog about my readers love and agree with either. the recipes, the weight loss stuff, the real-life date nights with husband stuff…it’s all really fun, well-written, and you take great pictures! You’re an excellent blogger, Jenna.

    24
  25. Hello darling! I feel privelidged to be one who knows you in “real life!!” I absolutely love your blog!!

  26. I found my way here from weddingbee and am thoroughly enjoying everything you write. I love to cook, so the recipes are great. The baby posts I can relate to and it’s great to see someone willing to be open about something that leaves them so vunerable. I’m about to go back to school and would love to hear more about your trials and tribulations as a student. I’m always curious about how other peoples’ relationships work, any peeks you want to offer into the world of you and That Husband would be most interesting.

  27. I love your blog! I found it through weddingbee and have been stalking it ever since! I especially like reading about your weight loss journey, healthy recipes, and the fun things you do with your husband! Thanks for all of the good reads.

    27
  28. I feel kind of silly having you add me to your blog roll, since I stumbled onto your blog one day (one of those blog surfing incidents where you recognize a name, recognize another name, etc) and you have absolutely no ties to me whatsoever. But I loved reading about your wedding planning, I also went to BYU and I’m LDS (we have that in common at least!).

I really enjoy your Sunday posts, anything about home decor (on anyone’s blog), and especially the recent stuff about weight loss. In fact, I meant to write the other day that I love it when people tell me that they lost their weight by watching what they ate and trying to be more active. It helps me not get sucked into those late night infomercials about pills or “revolutionary” diet plans - instead reminds that it’s so important what you put in your mouth and how we treat this body we were given.

So, I’m just a 26 year old gal, married to an Air Force guy, raising a son with Down Syndrome, and expecting baby boy #2 in June - feel free to drop by.

    28
  29. I like variety in my blog reads, so I wouldn’t change a thing about your posts lately! I did enjoy the weight loss series, though, perhaps the most.

I’d love to be added to your bee friends list :-) claremontroad.blogspot.com

    29
  30. I’ve been reading about your adventures since you started That Bride. I was excited cause you got married at the LDS temple down the street from my house. So I have always had a soft spot for you, Jenna. Even though you now live so far away I love following your adventures. So I say yes to everything. Bring it on!

    30
  31. Bee Friend!

I left the link to my personal blog. It needs a bit more traffic.

Jenna, I love everything you write. You have a beautiful “voice”. :)

  32. Whoops! Totally left the wrong address in that last message. This one is correct.

    Lo siento mucho!

    32
  33. I honestly love everything you write :) Even when my opinion isn’t the same on something, I always feel like I can read your stuff and not feel offended or angry!

  34. Hey Jenna, this is the “Leanne” who is Ally and Heather’s cousin, and fellow Regulator (Mount Up!) from back in the day. I can’t remember exactly how/when I came across your blog, but I have been reading it for awhile, and think it is so great :) (And it makes me wish that I had gotten to know you a little better back when we were all at school) Anyway, you don’t necessarily have to add me to the roll (our blog is mostly a “hey look at our kid” kind of thing anyway) just thought I would de-lurk and let you know I think your blog is fab.

Hi babe. Bee friend Breezy here! I love all your posts - you are one of those rare talents who can turn any subject into a masterpiece. I do especially love the baby posts though, probably because it’s also on my mind a lot but I’m not gutsy enough to write about it… (yet). And also the posts about you and your past because you’re just such an interesting and vivacious gal.

I hang out at goodfinking.com… but you already knew that. ;)

    35
  36. I love reading recipes and about how you are settling in to newlywed life, and just about your life in general. One of the main reasons I read blogs is to see how other folks life.

  37. Hi Jenna!

I love reading your blog for the inconsequential, mundane glimpses of life you share with us. Keep them coming! (Plus, you’re funny.)

  38. Hmmm….I’m really not so sure I could decide what I like the best…honestly, I love everything you write! I mean that. But here is our link, so make sure you add it to your list if you haven’t yet! :-)

  39. I hope you know who I am. :P

As for topics, I think an even mix of all of those listed topics would be good. But, if your blog becomes entirely devoted to babies, I’d still probably read it, but wouldn’t really be able to relate. I also think that you shouldn’t stray to far from the original intent of this blog - to catalogue your life’s adventures and experiences. Whether those adventures are in baking, babies, home decorating, photography, trips or religion, write about them all!

  40. Hi - I found you through WeddingBee, but actually started reading your blog before you became an Avocado :)
My favorite posts are your recipes and Sunday posts about LSD questions.

    40
  41. Hi Jenna, I first found your blog when you were a Bee. I keep coming back randomly because of your writing style, your pictures, your honesty. I don’t agree with you on a lot of issues, but really respect and admire the way you go about your life. So I keep on coming back :D

    41
  42. Hello :) I read you all the time & enjoy your writing- it’s your blog, so I’d like to read whatever you choose to post!

    42
  43. I found your blog through my friend Dawn. Love your blog and I love the weight loss story. I think it is amazing!!!

    43
  44. Yay! Don’t forget me, please! :) And I guess I’m biased but I enjoy all of your post subjects.

    44
  45. I’ve commented before, and you don’t have to put me on your blogroll if you don’t want. But I adore when you post recipes, photo adventures, the baby stuff and stuff about marriage. You’re definitely one of my favorite bloggers!

    45
  46. Oh! Me, me! Pick me! I’d love to be on your blogroll. I think you pick some pretty good topics to blog on. I’m definitely with you on the baby obsession. Even if our situations aren’t exactly alike, we still crave to nurture and care for a small human being.

    46
  47. Your blog makes me smile - gotta love all the fantastic pictures! (Also, I made bean soup on Monday and it is the bf’s new favorite!)

You can find me at toothfairyadventures.blogspot.com

    :)

    47
  48. I just love everything about your blog. I love to hear about your decorating stories because I’m starting to decorate my house and I just love hearing your ideas. You’re so much more creative than me so reading about your ideas and seeing your pictures helps gives me ideas about my own house! I also love just hearing about your newlywed life because soon I will be a newlywed and it’s so fun for me to read about another newlywed couple.

I used to follow your posts on the Weddingbee website and then just followed you here because you just seem like such a sweet and kind hearted person.

    48
  49. well i was the one making cookies in my reeses shirt, i visit you regularly, not sure i have many regular posts, but i totally plan on participating in the feb photo challenge!! (i may even bake too, but that is up for discussion!)

    49
  50. I found you via weddingbee - it was so fun to see another Mormon Northwest bride! (and a semi name twin, i go by my full name now, but growing up I was just Gena) I’ve been lurking for a while, but almost never comment.

In general I just find it fun to see little everyday slices of life - honestly I get a little bored of the recipes and challenges, but there’s plenty of good stuff to keep me coming. I loved the weight series, and just how generally honest you are. It’s really nice to see another person working to build a marriage.

I just got started blogging and am still trying to figure out what I’m doing or even what I want to be doing and this blog is one of my favorite examples. I’d love to be on your blog role, but I know my blog isn’t all that great (yet).
