Top Commenter Widget

Posted by Jenna, Under blog

So many things I want to post about today!

While reading a post over at Kimberly Michelle I noticed a widget she has that lists the top commenters on her site. I loved it so much that I installed it right away. (It’s this one if you have WordPress and want to install it yourself.)

Look over on the right side of my blog and you’ll see it. I set it to show the Top 11 Commenters in the past 60 days, their names, links to their sites if they provide it, the number of times they’ve commented, and their Gravatar if they have chosen one. I love how easy it is to recognize the people who put so much time into reading and commenting. A few of those commenters have become my really close e-friends because we talk back and forth so often! Sophia, who is at the top of the list, even came over to my house once to meet T1 before she moved to Colorado. She’s adorable and I loved her just as much in real life as I do online.

Why the Top 11 commenters? I couldn’t figure out how to exclude it from showing my own comment count without excluding the name Jenna, and that would have eliminated my friend Jenna from Utah who does such a great job of commenting and saying hello! Maybe some of you will be motivated to comment more often and try to beat me out for the top spot. Ha!

Also, if you haven’t given yourself a Gravatar yet. GO! It’s so easy, and it will look so pretty whenever you comment. I’m not kidding, go do it right now. Then you can comment below and show it off.

  9. I’ll never make your top 11, I don’t think, but I really do enjoy my gravatar (which I’ve had for a while.) I love seeing it pop up when I comment places!

Just click on the link Jenna provided in her post. It is pretty self-explanatory.. just sign up there with the email adress you use for commenting, upload a picture and voila, whenever you comment, your gravatar will appear.

  16. Hm, so, this is going to throw off how I’ve been commenting in the past, because for some obscure reason I signed up for gravatar at some point in the past using my gmail account instead of my hotmail account. Let’s see if it works, though.

Fun! Is that you in the picture? It’s so fun to see a glimpse of you, even if it’s the back of your head :)

Yup, that’s me on our honeymoon cruise. And yeah, the back of my head… I think my husband’s privacy sensibilities would be offended if I tried to show my face, much less our baby, unfortunately. :(

  17. Very cool! I love how easy it is to use widgets - miss that about being a self-hosty. Must keep remembering: Blogger - free, Savings good. (But the self absorbed part of me really REALLY misses being a .com)

I just wanted to try out my gravatar. I’m really excited about it. Haha! Also, I have a top commenter’s widget on my blog, too, and I’ve noticed that since I did, a lot more people comment! It’s fun!!

  31. Thanks for the shout-out Jenna :) As you can see, my blog reading/commenting comes in free-time spurts! I’m so happy you loved the “top commenters” feature as well. I picked a “top 7″ since that’s our little lucky number.
