My Wilds

Posted by Jenna, Under Uncategorized

Have you seen You Are My Wild? 14 phenomenal photographers showcase a photo of their children every week. The images are raw and poignant and exactly the way I want my own children to remember their childhood. A few weeks of reading their blog and I knew that I wanted to try to do the same for my kids.

I used some birthday money to buy myself a new camera strap that makes toting my camera+two kids a lot easier and started keeping my dSLR close-at-hand. I love my iPhone, but it’s just not the same. The last image in this post? That is pure magic to me, and my iPhone never could have done that moment justice.

Have you migrated to using your iPhone for almost all of your photos like I was/am?

  1. Just remarked to my husband last night that I didn’t need to bring my “big” camera for our trip this weekend because I’ve been using my phone for all pictures lately. Must change that. Beautiful photos of your children, as usual!

  2. The last two images are so great! I don’t have children yet, but investing in a good camera needs to happen before I do so that I can learn how to use it!

My husband is a photog enthusiast- it’s his hobby.
I really wish I had the same personal drive to learn how to use his nikon dslr… But srsly- so easy to just use a point and shoot too.
    Sigh,
    Maybe one day.

Sounds like my husband. He doesn’t understand why it’s so meaningful and magical to me! That’s okay. I appreciate many of the things he does for us because of his passion/drive. I’ll be the picture-taker.

  5. “Raw and poignant” are perfect descriptions for the photos on that website - LOVE. The image quality of an iPhone will never compare, but it is SO easy to instantly share photos on my phone. I’m resorting to doubling up on some pics on both my phone and camera, but if there were some easy way to wirelessly transfer pictures from my camera to my phone, or share from my camera, I’d demote the iPhone for sure!

  6. I just love that last photo! What a great post, I’m certainly guilty of not bothering to take my camera out, saying “well I’ve got my phone on me anyway”

  7. The third one is perfect! Both of their expressions! All of the ones with both kids are my favorites.

  8. Ugh, I’m that way. I’m a part-time nanny and I used to take sooo many photos of the kids. One year, for christmas, I gave the parents a huge photo album full of “moments you may have missed this year.” I had a really nice point & shoot that I took with me everywhere. But it died and the new p&s I bought didn’t measure up. So, I stopped taking a camera with me everywhere and I have so fewer photos from these last few years. On a rare day, I’ll remember to take my SLR or DLSR with me to work and I’m able to capture everyday life moments. :)

  9. I love “You Are My Wild”. A group of Utah based photographers recently started something similar http://www.ourforeverneverland.com/ . I’m constantly trying to get myself to be better about taking pictures of the every day things, and always coming up short. Your post gave me another boost of inspiration though :).

I’m trying so hard to take pictures with my DSLR of my daughter. I know I’ll treasure them more in the long run. My biggest issue is taking the pictures I take and getting them on the computer and then maybe running a quick edit on them. With a newborn, it’s still all very overwhelming!

  11. I love You are my wild! And I always love seeing your photos on instagram too, but these are *special*. I use my iPhone A LOT, and am weirdly better at printing those photos too, but when you do, you realise just what a difference the ‘big’ camera makes.
